Chapter one
"Run" that's all I could think. They wanted me dead, and they would do whatever it takes to do so. The lime green eyes, that odd knife that gave no glint in the light. They were evil, evil in its purest form. I continue running without stop, bypassing a sign that was red. There's a huge field in front of me, covered with rubble of a long ago battle. As I make my way through the torn part structures I hear a click from under my foot. I lift my foot up only to see a land mine seconds before it blows up. I'm thrown back by the explosion and land against a wall of solid concrete, my head a blistering mess as pain sears through my body. I look down at my leg only to see a mangled mess that my mind can barely register. I look away before I hurl, knowing that I would be here for a while before it heals. I pull myself into a building, my leg dangling lifeless behind me. My other leg pushes me forward since it made it out of the explosion with only a cut or two. Once under some safety I pray to God that they don't find me. I hear footsteps, getting louder before echoing off. I let out the breath that I had been holding. I'm only safe for a couple of minutes before they realize I'm behind them. I glance down at my mangled leg hopefully. It's slowly healing and getting stronger. There's more footsteps, not outside but below. I look around the room as a door on the floor begins to screech open. I lift my hands and try to look menacing, knowing that my powers would scare anyone almost anyone away.
A man steps up the stairs, not a man that I know but one that seems peaceful. He looks me directly in the eye as I begin to get to my legs. It's weak, not yet fully healed as I almost collapse again. The man gestures for me to follow him, a calm and kind gesture to possibly calm me. I begin to follow, my legs strengthening with each step. Nearly the second I reach the steps to the basement I hear the rasping breath of the man in the shawl and the quiet footsteps of the man with the green eyes. I jump down the stairs landing with a thud as the secret door shuts one more. All noises from outside are cutoff and silence rings all around me. The man, now a few yards ahead of me, flicks a switch. Some dim lights come on revealing everything I couldn't see before. If I didn't know where I had previously come from I never would have thought that this was anything but a normal house. There was a small kitchen, a nice living room, and what I couldn't only think was a bathroom behind a closed door. The man in front of me opens two huge doors that I had previously thought were garage doors, leading to a huge room with a strange silvery ring in the middle. The strange man goes to a lever connected to the ring and pushes it forward. Once all the way forward the ring begins to buzz and make other odd noises. Something appears in the middle and begins to get bigger and bigger until it fills the middle part of the ring. Through it I see a field, one that looks like the one above me but with no rubble, and a lot of small stones shoved into the ground. I look at the man for answers only to find out he's gone, disappeared as if he was never there. I look back at the image, wandering whether to touch it or not. I walk towards it and reach out, only for my hand to go through it. I feel a breeze against my hand, and I realize it's not a picture. It's a portal, a portal to somewhere new. I step through, curious about this new place. I look around at my new surroundings. As I turn back to the portal I'm stopped by a noise. A noise that sounds of like another human. I turn and come face to face with another person. "You're supposed to be dead", the new guy gasps loudly.
