There You Are

"How long have we been driving?" Roxie asked, "Do you want me to drive for a while?"

Walker didn't answer her. He was determined to get her far away from the whole damn world.

"Walker?"

"What?"

"Let me drive," Roxie pleaded, "I,-"

"No."

"Dammit, Walker! I can help you—this isn't just about me or you it's about us!"

Walker glanced at her for a second and back at the road. He sighed heavily, but knew her beautiful eyes were begging him to be calm.

"There!"

"What?!"

"There's an abandoned temple up the road!"

"How do you know?" Walker asked, "I didn't know you had sight?"

"I might now. I feel a lot stronger than I did even two days ago."

Sure enough, there was an abandoned temple not far up the bend.

"We'll make a stop then," Walker said, "I have to bind the Jeep anyway."

"You need to practice your binding."

"Honey, I bound a whole town to sleep for two days while we escaped that place."

"My hero," Roxie giggled.

"I love hearing that.."

"What?"

"You laughing," Walker admitted, pulling into the dirt entrance slowly, cautiously and making his way around the back to park, "It makes me happy."

"I still can't get over you saying that stuff."

"I can't either," Walker told her, "Sorry we're missing the orgies."

"I'm not," Roxie huffed.

"Jealous?"

"No," Roxie smiled, "Maybe. I don't want other women looking at you naked, sorry."

"I told you it would have the two of us naked after we drank—the rest of them can go wild."

"When did you start going?"

Walker didn't answer right away. He parked the Jeep and cut the engine, staring into space for a moment.

"I was fourteen."

"Wow...that's..."

"Young? Yeah, I know..." Walker smiled, opening the glove compartment and pulling out a little pistol, "Just in case I can't use my powers."

Roxie nodded as they made their way around the small temple—which resembled a Gothic chapel, "Looks kept up, but it's probably just the city doing it."

"It's not used. Look how old this sign is. It's from 1987."

"Well, damn," Walker said, "That's a good thing. We might get a night's rest at least."

"Maybe a few?"

"Maybe a few..."

He knew she was tired so he bound the Jeep and she kept their scent hidden as they crept through a slightly open window, Walker pulling Roxie in behind him.

"It's in fantastic shape for it to be unused."

"It's because most people don't want their temples deteriorating," Roxie reminded him, "It's beautiful."

They walked around, finding the place to be empty with a back room with some beds and even a running shower.

"The electricity still works," Walker said, "But we'll leave the lights out in the front and use this lamp in the back."

Bringing in only essentials, Walker made sure to bring in her paints and the picture of Maddy.

"You said a few days.."

Roxie smiled, "Thank you, Walker."

"Anything for you, mouse.."

They settled in and talked about Brett and Niles, what they would ask the elders. They ate some leftover takeout and conversed about their visions.

"Honestly, I don't like some of them," Walker confided, "They aren't what I am hoping for in my future."

"Some of them don't come true," Roxie reminded him, "I have like four kids!"

"I have three and one that I want to have with my mate," Walker smiled.

"Do you have sexy time visions?"

"Sexy time?" Walker laughed, "Really?"

"Sorry," Roxie rolled her eyes as she licked her fingers, "What do you call it?"

"Sex, fucking, fornication, doing the nasty, doing the wild thing, knocking boots..."

Roxie smiled, "Making love?"

Walker swallowed hard as he took another egg roll from the bag, "If that's what you want to call it."

"Oh...OK.." Roxie fell into her shell as Walker went into his, "I'm sorry..."

"No, it's me. I'm just wanting to get you to safety," Walker told her, "This isn't about us."

"Yes it is, Walker. You and I both are in this together," Roxie said, her voice stern, "If you haven't noticed, I've been assaulted, beaten, and stabbed in the last week so stop with this pity party savior complex. You're my bully anyway and yet I'm fucking you, falling in love with you and having these stupid visions about you," Roxie huffed, watching as Walker's face paled, "And I could be pregnant with the first of four kids!"

Roxie stood up, dropping her napkin and headed to the window.

"Roxie..I'm so sorry," Walker said, coming up behind her and wrapping his arms around her, "I didn't mean for any of this to happen."

"It's not like I asked for it," Roxie continued, "You, Connie, all of your friends were complete assholes to me...and now we could...we could be.."

"Mates?" Walker said, "It's freaking me out as well."

"Have you ever performed any of the rituals to figure out who you're mated to?"

"That's child's play. It's like a Ouija board—doesn't work."

"Witchcraft.."

"I don't see any witches around here."

"Connie said something about witches and wolves, right?"

"I'm not finding a witch caravan today, mouse..."

"What if we did, though?"

"They lie for profit."

"Oh my god! You are such a vampire snob, Walker.."

"I don't care..."

"We have some amulets for you and your sisters to keep you safe," Roxie said.

"When's Daddy coming home?"

"Once the smoke clears. I told you—he'll be OK. He has to defend us."

"But someone told me he's not coming home!"

"Who said that to you?"

"A kid in my class..."

"That kid is wrong—Daddy's coming home...I know he is.."

"Roxie?"

"Yeah?"

"So, yes, Connie did mention witches and wolves and,-" he sniffed the air, "Fuck..."

They looked out the window and waited.

"Did they follow us?" Roxie asked.

"More than likely," Walker told her, "They can't come in here so we're pretty safe for the time being."

"Push, Roxie! One more time..."

"I can't...Oh my god..I can't do this.."

"Yes, you can, baby. You've done it twice already."

"She's too big—or something's wrong...I can't..I can't..."

"She's right—baby's breech.."

Roxie crumbled to the floor, holding onto her stomach—a pain shooting through her body.

A howl was heard out in the night—followed by a chorus echoing through the forest.

"Roxie!" Walker knelt down beside her, "What is it?"

"It was you in my vision—you were holding me while I was giving birth to a daughter...but something went wrong—something is wrong now.."

Walker looked down at her and saw the look of terror in her eyes, followed by a deep sadness.

"Did I lose our baby, Walker? Please tell me I didn't lose him."
