Sparring

"And there she goes," Evans chuckled as they watched Jaleesa slink away.

Eric shuddered, "She always like that?"

Evans nodded, "She is. What the hell did that mean?"

Walker and Roxie both smiled at each other.

"It means Annabelle is a pretty powerful little girl," Roxie said, "I'll be fine to fight."

Although that was true, the next few were very brutal for all of them.

"Ughh," Roxie fell on her back again as Walker was held back by Evans and Corey, "I'm OK, Walker!"

She'd been training with the witches and Jenny all morning, her little belly showing in the tank top she wore. Their awakening was incredibly hard, as was Eric's as he too began to feel the change.

"She's OK, man,"Eric panted, "Our women are built for this. They can take hits while pregnant—you know that."

"I'm well aware," Walker grunted, his stomach pains lurching him forward, "I'm just...Fuck it..nevermind. Let's get back to it.You charge me now."

Evans and Jenny spoke amongst themselves further away from the group.

"Do you really think they'll be OK?" Evans asked as Jenny watched Walker and Roxie train like creatures on a mission, "I trust your instincts."

"I do...I don't..I don't know if any of us will be OK.." Jenny admitted, "But they're true fighters, Evans, and they'll only get stronger by the day. Eric's right. It doesn't matter that Roxie has a baby in there—Annabelle is going to be fighting with her."

Walker and Eric rumbled—hand to hand combat, no supernatural interferences allowed.

Eric knocked Walker down a few times before Metgar came over to lend a hand.

"Don't think about her," he said, "Focus on the enemy."

"But who is the enemy?" Corey panted as he rushed over, having sprinted for quite some time.

"You already know a few," Jenny told him, "But it's obvious that we'll be sure to figure it out."

"Did Jaleesa tell you that?" Evans snarled, "Baby..."

"I trust them, Evans," Jenny said, "We have to."

"Very good... " Jadis said, approvingly when she came closer to Walker and Evans, "The fight is strong here."

Evans sighed, "We carry a mutual loathing."

Jadis cackled as she lit her pipe.

"You only wish you did, Mr. Durant. You two have grown fond of each other. "

Walker laughed,"I expect dinner and a movie, Evans. "

Jadis rolled her eyes as she watched them race up and down the trees, levitating and sparring, healing and mind bending. Her witches knew they could only interfere so much and any spells of protection wouldn't last forever.

She looked towards Roxie, who was tiptoeing her fingers across her stomach. What a fine mother she already was! Jadis was pleased –very pleased. There was something very special about Annabelle, but she couldn't quite put a finger on it.

Jaleesa had her hand in helping Jenny and Roxie, Crystal and Sarai with any skills they were having difficulty with.

"I can only place limited powers on you all," Jaleesa told them, "Our powers are not meant for you so you might wear out faster."

Jenny and Roxie grinned. They knew their healing powers were well their way to becoming legendary.

They'd proven it earlier when Jenny was able to heal from a distance, impressing even the witches and other clerics.

"We strike at the ball," Metgar kept saying,"No one will recognize us due to it being a masquerade ball."

"That's wildly convenient," Evans said,"Don't you think?"

Metgar nodded,"Of course.. precisely why I've sent scouts ahead of time."

Suri and Brett trained together, knowing they'd have to appear as chaperones to the ball.

"People still believe nothing is amiss?" Suri asked Brett as they sparred, pacing themselves for more training, "My mind reading doesn't seem to work on you well."

Brett chuckled,"That's because I can block you. "

"Oh really?" Suri smiled, "I'm impressed."

Brett leaned in, brushing away a strand of hair from her face.

"You've always been so beautiful, Suri... "

Suri blushed and turned away, her pulse beating rapidly.

"I hear your heart. I'm a cleric, Suri... "

Suri turned to face him again and sighed, her eyes shone with delight, but her heart wasn't involved.

"Brett, I... "

Brett breathed in deeply and took her hand, "Will you ever let him go?"

Suri shrugged, her pulse quickening. She knew it would take one simply spell, just one, to rid her of her love for Steven and she would feel something for anyone else, maybe even Brett.

"I'm not ready... I don't... maybe... "

Her thoughts raced as she scanned the area: Roxie fighting along with Jenny and Crystal, Walker and Evans tossing each other against trees, Marlena working with Jadis and Martina to control her powers, Sarai and Corey shifting and racing to and from the entrance to the village.

They were good, everyone was finding themselves, including Eric who's awakening was a pain, but he trudged onward.

"When you're ready, I'll be waiting .." Brett assured her as they resumed their practice.

"That means a lot to me, Brett," Suri said, not knowing if she'd feel anything for the man standing before her when the spell had dissipated, but she was feeling excited about it, "You helped my daughter when she needed you and I'll forever be in your debt."

Marlena skipped over to Roxie and smiled.

"Are you ready?"

"For battle?" Roxie knelt down so she could be face to face with the little girl, "I think so... "

Marlena giggled, cupping Roxie's cheeks with her hands.

"No, silly.. Are you ready to be a mama?"

Roxie smiled and nodded, but Marlena could see right through her.

"It's OK to be scared, Roxie, but Annabelle is.. different.."

Jaleesa perked up, slowly inching towards Roxie and Marlena.

"What do you see, Mar?" Roxie asked, "Do you see Annabelle in your visions?"

Marlena nodded and then she frowned as she looked passed Roxie and into the darkness of the forest.

"You are protected by her, and also by someone else.." Marlena tilted her head, still gazing into the void.

"Roxie, who is Steven?"
