Mini-You, Mini-Me
"Walker!"
Walker slammed on the brakes right before he almost hit the guardrail. His vision—his daughter—this lovely little person he held in his arms looked just like her—just like Roxie: green eyes, auburn hair, a little button nose...and that smile—that giggle—that intoxicating laugh..
"Walker, are you alright?"
"Are you alright?" Walker stopped and looked her over, "Mouse.."
He looked down at the seat.
"You're bleeding...Holy shit!" Walker panicked as he saw where the blood was coming from.
She looked at her crotch area and smiled, shaking her head.
"It's not blood, it's sauce!"
"Say what?"
"It's tomato sauce...I got hungry so I grabbed my leftovers--and you blacked out!" Roxie looked mortified at the mess her food had made in Walker's Jeep, but Walker was more concerned about her safety and his visions.
"You're having them, too?"
"Huh?"
"The visions," Roxie asked as they sat there on the side of the road, Walker trying to find some tissues to clean her up and the interior of his vehicle.
"They're very..real.." Walker told her, deciding against keeping it from her.
"I have them a lot," Roxie said, "They're very real."
"She looks like you," he spouted.
"What? Who looks like me?"
"My daughter."
He and Roxie stared at each other for the longest time until a car honked at them.
It was Walker's father.
"Are there no depths you'll sink to, Walker?" Archibald called out the window as the driver slowed down, "Get her back to school and out of your fucking vehicle."
"Yes, sir.." Walker snarled as the driver pulled away, leaving Roxie rolling her eyes and Walker beyond livid, "I am sorry about that."
"Why? You've said the same things to me, Walker."
"I know..." Walker lowered his gaze, "I'm sorry about your pants."
"Eh, I'd say I'm sorry about your car, but I am more upset about the lasagna," she teased, "Your daughter...?"
"Yes..."
"Well, lots of girls have auburn hair and green eyes..."
"I didn't describe her, Roxie....I just said she looked like you," Walker swallowed hard, knowing in his heart they were somehow having the same visions.
Roxie shook her head, but she didn't say anything else. She couldn't. What could they say? They'd even fed from each other.
"Let me get you back so you can go home and shower and think about me," Walker winked as they headed back into the parking lot of the school.
"So, are a lot of people involved in the blood orgies?" Roxie asked as they parked next to her little car, "Like, is it weird?"
"I mean, it can be weird," Walker shrugged, "I have never thought it to be because I love the juice and sex,-"
"Wait, sex?"
"Blood ORGY, mouse," Walker chuckled.
"Well, I thought we'd just have some juice, get a little happy and then go home."
"You're being serious right now?"
"I guess I never thought it through.." Roxie shuddered, "Am I going to have to have,-"
"Fuck that, mouse, fuck no.." Walker growled, "You won't be having sex with anyone else except for me, do you understand?" He paused, then started again—much to Roxie's shock, "Do you want to be with someone else?"
Roxie shook her head, "No, I don't. I.."
"Any man would want you, fancy face..."
"I only want you," Roxie said, "Only you..."
"Good, because I don't like to share."
Roxie turned to Walker who was smiling at her.
"What was it about this time?"
Roxie smiled, "I'll keep that one to myself."
Walker escorted her out of the Jeep and they both laughed at the lasagna noodles tucked away in the cracks.
"I am so sorry," Roxie said, "I will help you clean it."
"No, get home, mouse," Walker said, "As much as I want to stay by your side every second of every day, I know you have other obligations."
She did. She had to take care of Ms. Haven that afternoon.
"I—I guess I will see you tomorrow?"
"You will."
Walker knew he'd see her later that night, though. Nothing was going to stop him from being with her—not even his father.
"Thanks for..."
"It was pretty amazing," Walker smiled, helping Roxie into her car, "You are...amazing."
He moved a strand of hair away from her face and tucked it behind her ear.
"I never thought you'd say something like that to me," Roxie whispered.
Walker nodded, "I didn't, either."
"I..."
"Don't say anything else, mouse. It'll come soon."
Roxie nodded as Walker shut her door and walked away, watching as she headed out of the lot and in the direction of her home.
Stepping into the shower, Roxie washed and scrubbed her body—the seed of Walker, her juices, the lasagna...
She stood under the hot shower, knowing that what was transpiring wasn't right. She couldn't fall for Walker Wells—he'd told her himself that they couldn't get hooked on anyone, not if they'd been invited to the ball.
Rubbing her belly, she winced at the possibility of his baby growing inside of her.
Maybe...
No...not this....but what if..?
"You're not in there, are you?" Roxie whispered to her belly as she tiptoed her fingers below her naval, "Little Walker..."
Her fear turned into bliss then denial then panic.
"Honey! I'm home!" Suri called from the hallway, "You alright in there, baby girl?"
"Yes, Mom!′ Roxie answered, leaning against the shower wall, "I'll be out shortly."
"OK!" Suri echoed, "I have some pizza for dinner. It's frozen and I got a supreme because I know you love peppers!"
"More sauce," Roxie giggled, holding her belly as if she was shielding it from something that could harm her or her womb.
"You won't live to see tomorrow, bitch! He was mine before you showed up!
"Wh-what did I do? I don't love him..you can have him!"
"That's right! He's mine, trash rat!"
Roxie saw the blade, but she didn't react fast enough.
The pain seared through her as the cut went straight into her belly.
Blood oozed through her wound as Roxie fell to the ground.
She felt the life leave her..
The life that didn't have a chance to be.
