Last Dance

"What did you say?" Roxie asked as Walker straightened up and looked around at the room. He was dizzy, but he knew his awakening was the reason, "Walker?"

Walker smiled, "That's between me and my baby," he winked, "Come on. Let's get some punch."

The gym was crowded, but they managed to meet up with Evans, Jenny, and Marlena at the buffet. Marlena was eyeing the chicken tenders.

"She's going to turn into a big ole chicken," Evans teased loud enough for the little girl to hear him, "But I guess I'll still love her when she's got feathers."

Marlena stuck her tongue out, but then smiled, nibbling on a tender.

"Fatherhood looks good on you," Walker said as the two stepped off to the side so Jenny and Roxie could chat, "You doing OK?"

"Eh...I'm trying...it's hard being a dad,for sure, but when it's for a kid who's had such trauma...she's tougher than I am," Evans said, glancing back at his family, "I want her to be safe and happy."

"She will be with you," Walker said, "I believe that now, Evans. You're..."

Evans smiled, "Yeah,yeah...we're brothers. Don't get mushy on me, asshole."

Walker chuckled, but he really valued the relationship he had with Evans now. They would even joke about the days kid fights and broken bones.

"Corey still thinks Roxie can kick my ass," Evans teased, "I'm pretty sure she could if she wanted to."

Walker smiled, "Her powers are outstanding. I haven't seen anything like it, to be honest."

"Your speed's gotten better," Evans said, "I was surprised at how fast you are.."

They discussed more about the powers and awakening, Eric's nightmares.

"What the fuck are those all about?" Evans asked, "Is that a thing with you vamps?"

Walker shrugged, " During the awakening, anything can happen."

Roxie smiled at her husband who caught her gaze and winked. Her little pooch was noticeable, but not too much and she held a hand to it most of the time. It made Walker happy that his mate was such a kind and caring soul. She was going to be a good mother.

"So, like I was saying, Suri has been doing a wonderful job with the kids," Jenny piped up, snapping Roxie out of her wandering eye to her husband, "We were trying to start a family, but I am not sure Marlena is ready for all of these changes."

"She's a very mature soul," Roxie said, smiling at Marlena as Metgar danced with her, "I think she'll adjust."

Jenny talked some more about the prom and decorations, Annabelle's nursery and if they would stay at Crow's Peak for a while after she was born. They were lost in conversation when Roxie's eyes closed briefly.

"Don't you dare leave me! Don't leave us, Walker! I cannot do this without you! Annabelle can't live without you!"

"You're stronger than you think, mouse..."

"No, please...please don't do this! I am not strong without you!"

"I love you, fancy face.."

Snapping out of the vision, Roxie's heart raced and she rushed from the gymnasium, clutching her stomach. She heaved into the bushes as Jenny appeared next to her.

"Are you alright?" Jenny soothed, "Would you like some water?"

Roxie shook her head, her body trembling.

"Thanks, but I'm..I am OK..I think.."

Walker rushed out seconds later with Evans on his heels.

"What is it? What happened?"

He put his arms around Roxie who glared up at him.

"Tell me what you told our daughter!"

Evans and Jenny backed up as Roxie's eyes changed to amethyst.

"What visions have you had, Walker? Tell me!"

Walker gazed down at his mouse and smiled, "You know half of them aren't true, Roxie."

"And the other half are!" Roxie pushed him off of her, "Tell me."

"I didn't see anything bad," Walker lied, "I saw..."

"I saw you, Walker! I saw you with my own eyes.." Roxie sobbed, "Don't do this to me. Don't hold back on me, baby.."

"Fine! I saw...I'm..." Walker croaked, "I'm dead, Roxie."

"No..." Roxie fell into his arms, "No..."

Evans and Jenny held each other close, feeling the atmosphere change immediately.

"I can't do this alone," Roxie said, "I...love you...I can't..."

"Then maybe we don't have to," Walker shrugged, "We'll forget the whole thing and just stay in Crow's Peak and have our baby.."

Evans sighed, wishing that could be the case.

"We need to take them out, Walker..." he mumbled, "I'm sorry.."

Roxie and Walker knew it was true. There was no way they could turn back now—not with their powers being so phenomenal. They owed it to so many people.

"I don't want to leave you, baby," Walker whispered as Jenny and Evans walked back into the gym, "I would never want to leave you or Annabelle. You know these visions are a part of our awakening—they're supposed to throw us off."

"I can't see you die...I can't keep seeing you in pain or dead or lost to me!"

"I know.." Walker said, "They'll pass soon. We'll get through this and settle down with a million kids running around and all of the things your heart desires I will give to you."

"I only desire you, Walker, and if I can't have that then my life is forfeit."

"No, it isn't...you have her," Walker said, placing a hand on Roxie's belly, "You know she means more to you than I do.."

"No.."

"Yes.." Walker said, "You'll fight for her just like I would. No matter what happens to me, you'll be the best mother to ever grace this fucking universe, do you hear me? Roxie?"

He cupped her face in his hands, bringing her lips to his and kissing them gently.

"I want this last month together before this ball to be the best we've ever had. I want to show you that I love you and make love to you and ease all of your worries as you do for me," Walker said, "I can't explain the visions, but I pray they aren't real. I want to grow old with you and watch our children grow and have their children. I want you to nag at me for not taking out the garbage and I want to gripe about the weather when my arthritis kicks in. We'll make it, Roxie—don't you dare give up on me. You aren't like that. I'm not the one who should be giving the speech here," he joked.

Roxie smiled, "Tell me you won't die..."

She knew he couldn't promise that, but Walker was arrogant and stubborn and that's what she needed right then.

"You think the gods want me anytime soon?"He winked, "I'd raise hell there just as much as I've done here."

He smiled at his mate and kissed her on the forehead.

"Come on,"he took her hand and led her back into the gym.

"One more dance and we'll go home."
