Final Countdown

"Oh my gods! I've never had so much fun in my life!" Roxie squealed as Walker whirled her around on their walk home.

Walker chuckled, "Honestly, I knew it would be fun with you around."

"Crystal and Dante are so cute together, aren't they?"

Walker agreed, "I'm happy for them. I think they truly complete each other."

They entered their home, both of them giggling like little kids with a crush.

"This is where I want to be forever, Walker, locked in your arms.." Roxie said as Walker kissed her gently, "I can never picture myself with anyone else."

"I don't ever want anyone else, fancy face..." Walker said as they shredded their prom clothes and made love for hours. They wrapped up in a blanket together on the window seat, watching the sun rise.

"You aren't even tired, are you?" Walker said, kissing his mate on the top of the head, "You smell so damn good."

"I smell like you," Roxie giggled, "No, I am not really tired—just hungry."

Walker snickered, "That little one is hungry."

"She definitely is!" Roxie smiled down at her stomach, "I think she wants pancakes and macaroni."

"Together?" Walker pretended to gag, "Well, what she wants—she gets."

Walker made his way to the other side of the room and threw some sweats on, eager to please his mate and his daughter.

They chatted about the prom and how it was cute of Suri and Brett to be crownd king and queen.

"I thought they were going to flip," Roxie said as she shoveled some macaroni and cheese into her mouth, "My mom looks so happy."

Walker watched her as she talked. He'd barely touched his food because all he wanted to do was stay wrapped up in her. He never realized how much he watched her—even before they were together. His days were spent thinking about her—and not ways to hurt her, but ways to protect her.

It didn't go as planned because the other students were cruel simply because he was. He did stop them, though. He didn't think Roxie noticed, but he had. He had told them to fuck off and that she was his to torment—to taunt—to tease...

And now?

Now she was his to love, honor, and cherish for the rest of their lives.

"Are you not hungry?" Roxie was asking, snapping Walker out of his memories.

"I'm getting tired now," he yawned, "Are you ready for a few hours of sleep before training?"

Roxie nodded, "Hold me?"

"You know I will."

A few hours seemed like a minute now, but they found themselves training and working, working and training—with very few orders from the witches.

That would come soon and they both knew it.

"Do you think I can hide this?" Roxie said, pointing at her growing stomach, "How is she so big right now?"

Jenny smiled, "You know the vampire babies grow quickly and then calm down at around five months...I am sure we can do a sash for your dress."

Roxie stared at herself in the mirror knowing that if Walker had his way, she and Annabelle wouldn't step foot out of Crow's Peak until the battle was over.

"I wish they'd just let you move on," Jenny sighed, "Archibald and the others just won't take no for an answer."

Roxie agreed, "They'll never let any of us move on. The elders are what we need to watch for."

"I think Jaleesa and Jadis have a plan for them."

Roxie grinned, "Oh, I know they do...."

"I love this color on you," Jenny said as she admired Roxie in her ballgown, "You've done such an amazing job with this."

"Thank you," Roxie said, "Who do you think they'll pair me with?"

"I thought it was Jesse..."

"Can you believe anything these days?"

"You've got a point..."

"Tonight we get the entire plan—the strategy—step by step instructions and I know better than to know nothing goes as planned."

"That's why we have the witches, sis," Jenny smiled, "I cannot promise that anything will turn out the way we hope, but we'll damn sure try."

"Walker!" Evans called right before Walker cut down another tree for firewood, "Lunch!"

Walker sighed, the sweat pouring off of him. He'd give anything not to be with Evans and the crew, but he knew all of this would be over soon.

"Tell me about your visions..."

"No."

"Fucker, just tell me. We need to help each other," Evans prodded, "If it's real, we can change it."

Walker took a sip of coffee from his thermos and sighed.

"I'm a dead man, Evans..."

Evans rolled his eyes, "Stop with the dramatics. We're going to be OK. What do you see?"

Walker thought about it and decided he had no choice but to tell them. It was for the best—maybe they could help.

"We're at the ball and we're doing the thing and then I die...that's it..I'm dead."

Metgar moved closer, "Details, Walker..."

Walker jumped off the tailgate of the truck and threw his hands up in the air.

"My father fucking kills me! Is that what you want to hear?! I try to fight him—try to run—try to do everything in my power and he fucking kills me—right in front of her, right in front of Roxie—in front of my mate..."

"Then we take him out first," Corey shrugged, "Seems like a plan to me. Cut and dry, simple. I don't see a problem here."

Walker turned around so they couldn't see him. Of course, they wouldn't understand. Sometimes the visions were simply ideas they came up with on a whim from the corner of their overactive minds, but they had to know.

"He won't stop. He will know I see the visions in my awakening," Walker mumbled, "He'll be ready for me. He might even come at me before I enter the damn building—if he thinks one thing is off he will lay me out and I..."

"Walker..."

"What?"

"We didn't say anything, man.." Eric said, "You OK?"

"Walker, don't give up on your family, my sweet little boy...I'm so proud of you...and I love you always and forever..."

Walker rushed towards the forest—following that voice, her voice, but he couldn't find her. A peace enveloped him and he knew that no matter what happened, he'd have to give it his all.

Falling to his knees, he sobbed. He sobbed harder than he had in over a decade.

"I love you too, Mama.."
