Catch
Walker focused on him—his eyes boring into Evans' features as the mutt shifted back into human form.
"Your mate is injured."
"Fuck off, Evans. It's none of your business."
"Where the hell did you expect to go?"
"Away."
"You're such an entitled, fucking, privileged brat. You didn't think this out at all,"Evans shook his head.
Walker scowled, "I didn't have enough time to think it out. What's the word?"
"Word is you kidnapped her and daddy's pissed because you're ruining his reputation."
Walker didn't answer. He wasn't going to entertain Evans or his pack.
"Look, fuck face...we really don't want to hurt you—much, but you ain't gonna last in there at all," Evans warned, "You think we're the problem?"
"You're always the problem."
"Walker..."
"Your mate needs you.."
"She's..." Walker snarled and closed the window as he walked back to Roxie, "What's up, baby? You need something? Drink?" He showed her his wrist and she nodded, "I got you, love."
A howl—more...
"Why are they out there?" Roxie asked as she watched Walker cut his wrist, the blood oozing from the wound, "Is it Evans?"
"Yes..." Walker said as he watched her feed from him, "I don't know what he wants. Just to torment us, I suppose."
Roxie leaned back again and licked her lips, "But why?"
"Because he's a sadist, fuck if I know," Walker shrugged as Roxie came back for more, "Watch out, baby. You sucking like that is going to make me pull something else out."
Roxie grinned as she looked up at him with her amethyst eyes. He could feel her heat, but he knew she wasn't well so he wouldn't prod.
"Lay back, mouse," Walker said, "I'll take care of everything."
"Let them be and come to bed. They can't come in here."
"I will soon, I promise," Walker said, pulling the covers up to her neck and kissing her gently on the forehead, "I will be back."
"I..OK.." Roxie smiled and closed her eyes as Walker left the room, heading back to the un-curtained window. He saw them standing there—a few Ragers were drinking, some playing dice—it's like they'd made their own little camp.
"What do you want? I'm not going to fight you. I don't have the ability to fight you all off," Walker admitted, hating that he had to, "But I will if you even think about fucking with her."
Evans chuckled, "We know the powers you have, lover boy, we're just hanging around. We haven't even come close to your precious temple."
"So, I can't leave then? That's the plan? Torment us until we run out of provisions and I have to get her out of here?"
Corey swallowed the last of his beer, "Shit—why didn't I think of that?"
Evans nodded, "That's actually the best plan. Gods, I've waited so long for this."
"Come on then!" Walker said, his fangs protruding, his eyes glowing, "Fight me!"
"Are you inviting me in?"Evans narrowed his eyes.
"STOP THIS!"
A female voice was heard in the distance as Walker watched a red wolf halt beside Evans and shift into human form.
"This isn't what we discussed and you didn't wait for me!"
Evans looked either really embarrassed or really angry, but when he stared down at the ebony haired woman looking up at him, he softened.
"Jenny, I..."
"Don't Jenny me," the woman said, "You were wrong to do this—to come here and scare them. How could you?"
"You don't,-"
"I know all of it, husband, and I know what our deal was. You promised."
"Husband?"
Jenny... Walker had never seen her in person, but her healing abilities were legendary in the wolf world.
She was Evans's mate and also one of the sweetest Ragers.
"It's nice to meet you, Walker. I am Jenny, this big lug's better half."
"Yeah, I've heard of you. I'd say it's nice to meet you, but I can't."
Jenny nodded, "I understand."
She turned to Evans again who was eyeing both her and Walker.
Walker watched them, closely—trying to see if he could bind them. In their world, so many powers could only be used against your own kind and so forth.
"I told you to stay back at camp," Evans growled, but Jenny stood her ground—hands on hips, head shaking, "Woman..."
"Evans, I asked you to wait for me, but you have this little boy agenda,-"
Evans certainly wasn't happy being reprimanded in front of his pack.
"Big bad alpha, huh?" Walker chuckled.
"Shut up, dirty bloodsucker," Evans snapped, "You're about as pussy whipped as I am."
Jenny sighed, "Very mature. Both of you, please stop. We need to help Roxie."
Walker stood up from the perch.
"How? How are you going to help her?"
"I can heal her, Walker," Jenny said, Evans holding onto her when she stepped forward, "I have the power to heal her."
"Bullshit! Another one of your lies! Evans, even for you this is low."
"'She's dying, Walker.." Evans said, "As much as I loathe the piss out of you, I've never held any contempt for your mate."
"Contempt? You killed her dad!"
Jenny nodded, "Things are complicated, Walker. Please...please let me in."
"Hell no," Walker shook his head, "I can't do that. You'll kill us off."
Jenny took another step forward, "Please, Walker....This is so important! I can't do anything from out here—your temple is very protected."
"This is the end of our discussion," Walker seethed.
"You don't have enough food or drink!" Jenny cried out, "You have to save her, Walker! You've come this far...you can't go any further. She won't survive this."
"Brett got the poison out.."
"No," Jenny said, "He didn't get all of it. I can sense that. She's a healer, too, she just can't do anything right now—she's weak..."
"She's a healer?"
"Yes, her powers will come through like they will for all of you—at your awakening."
"How do you know this?" Walker eyed Jenny as her eyes turned red and back again, "Fucking Christ, you're a vampire?!"
"Half—barely.." Jenny said, "I was orphaned and raised by the Ragers." He looked at Evans with curiosity.
Evans shrugged, "I like her doesn't mean I like you."
Jenny rolled her eyes, "Stop...Walker, please. I promise you she will not last the rest of the week if you leave her in there to die. You are the one she needs and you're still doing your part."
"What about our baby?"
"I'm sorry, Walker..."
"Don't you dare..." Walker growled, "Don't you dare tell me it's gone..."
"He was beautiful..." Jenny smiled, "She will see him again—as will you."
Walker couldn't think straight—someone killed his baby...
"If I don't get in there or she doesn't get out here and back to camp, she dies!"
Walker wasn't listening anymore. He didn't want to believe their baby was gone—or that he was talking to a hybrid or that Evans was even helping them at all.
Nothing made sense anymore.
What was the catch?
"I won't leave this spot, Walker!" Jenny cried out to him, "She needs me!"
"She doesn't need you!" Walker slammed the window shut and locked it, rushing back to his mouse who was dripping in sweat, "Roxie..."
"Walker..."
"DADDY! I will come back home, Daddy...you'll see..it won't be long, Daddy..don't cry...you'll see me soon."
