Tripping Over You

Tripping Over You

This fanfiction is purely fan-made. I do not own the characters, Hiro Mashima does. However, I do own the plot idea. Enjoy "Fight", featuring a not-so-typical argument with Gray and Natsu!

A/N: **I know you guys dig the long one-shots, but this one is going to be more of a drabble. Sorry for the inconvenience! :) To make it up, I have special news at the bottom of this one-shot**

"Honestly," Lucy complained to Mirajane, sipping her lemonade. "How can they go at it for that long?"

They, referring to the rivals Gray and Natsu, have been arguing and beating each other up for six hours straight. Erza had vanished to go on a S-class mission last night, so no one was there to shut them up successfully.

"God fucking damnit!" Gray yelled, firing ice shells from a bazooka he created. Even though he was tired, Natsu jumped out of the way effortlessly.

"I can do this all day!" Natsu taunted, avoiding yet another attack shot his way.

"You have been..." Mirajane responded sarcastically, rolling her eyes playfully at Lucy. "Say, Lucy, what do you think of Natsu?"

The gleam in her eye gave away the questions that were about to be fired. Lucy tsked and took another sip of her beverage.

"I'm not sure I understand what you mean," Lucy shrugged, staring into her glass.

"What I mean is, do you like him?" Mirajane squealed rather inhumanely. She pointed her finger at the blonde, grinning. "You do!"

Blushing slightly, Lucy rolled her eyes. "I don't... anymore." She swirled the plastic straw between her fingers boredly, trying not to look Mira in the eyes.

"Why not anymore?" Mirajane asked, dejected. She was really counting on her next matchmaking project to be Natsu and Lucy, but if he knew one didn't love the other, what would be the point?

"Because I can't get in the way of who he really likes," Lucy whispered. Her bangs fell in her face as she stared at the bar table, watery doe eyes shining with tears of rejection.

"Don't cry, Lucy! Besides, we all know who likes you," Mirajane patted Lucy's shoulder, jutting her thumb at Loke, who was awkwardly staring at the blonde. Lucy couldn't help but giggle and blush at his lost-puppy expression.

"I'm going to go talk to him, okay?" Lucy smiled a bit, pushing her now empty glass towards the bartender. "Thanks for the lemonade."

"Wait, Lucy!" Mirajane waved her back over. Confused, Lucy turned around and nodded slightly, as if to say, what else do you need? "If it's not you, then who does Natsu like?"

Lucy only responded with a half-smirk. She raised her hand to cover a whisper. "It's not that hard to figure out, really," The blonde said vaguely. She flounced away, keys clinking as she stepped.

"Not that hard to figure out?" Mirajane repeated to herself, tapping her chin. Her mind suddenly thought of her younger sister. Mirajane was definitely aware of the chemistry the two had previously shared, and her younger, demon-child self was all for it.

But if Natsu really loved Lisanna, they would've been around each other a lot more. At least, Natsu would've tried to talk to her more than necessary... Lisanna was usually around herself and Elfman, and Natsu was usually found around Lucy, Erza, Gray, and Happy.

"Idiot pyro, you think you could possibly beat me in anything?" Gray shouted in the distance, sitting on one of the roof supporter beams.

"I haven't given up yet! Get back down here and try to fight me!" Natsu retorted, punching his fist. His hands and body began to emit small flames as Natsu roared and jumped in the air. Gray hopped down to meet Natsu, preparing an icy attack of his own.

"I ain't gonna lose to the likes of you!" They screamed simultaneously, holding their fists out.

Meanwhile, Mirajane was still deep in thought about what Lucy had said. She slid a few drinks to some guild members with a cheery smile and stared out into the guild blankly.

Was it Erza Natsu loved? No, it couldn't be her. They had more of a sibling relationship. Plus, Mirajane had a hunch Erza had a major thing for that blue-haired boy. Erza and Natsu just didn't seem like a fitting relationship, so Mira scratched that off the list of possibilities.

If it was someone from outside the guild, Mirajane wouldn't know. However, Natsu didn't really interact with people outside of Fairy Tail, according to Lucy. Guess that possibility was out as well.

Now standing on the floor, Gray and Natsu were glaring at each other. They weren't going admit it, but they were really feeling their energy being drained. Natsu needed some fire fuel, and Gray really wanted a cup of ice water. However, their stubbornness got the best of them, and they continued to argue on.

"Ice princess!" Natsu hissed.

"Flame princess!" Gray mocked.

"Damn it, you aggravate me!" Natsu pulled at his hair in frustration.

"You're the aggravating one!" Gray defended himself brashly.

Mira turned her head to the sounds of the all-too-familiar arguing. It was funny, really, how they could keep it up for so long. Heck, they weren't even fighting for a reason!

Plus, Mirajane noted, rivals don't usually stand that close to each other.

Could Lucy be hinting that Natsu loved Gray? Mira could see that, definitely. The way they were always found next to each other arguing, or helping each other in battle, or just being there.

Pissed off and wanting this dumb brigade to end, Gray decided to play a little prank. "Hey, Natsu, look!! Free all-you-can-eat buffet!"

After hearing the words 'free' and 'buffet' in the same sentence, Natsu began to scramble over to where Gray was pointing. Gray held back a laugh as he stuck his foot out to the side to trip the pinkette.

Much to the raven's annoyance, karma came back around and bit him in the ass, because Natsu toppled forward- right on top of him.

Mirajane's eyes widened as she watched the new scene unfold. She was on the edge of her seat, wondering how this would end. A large grin formed on her face when she saw both mages begin to blush.

After all, rivals aren't usually found on top of each other.

"Can you get off me?" Gray hissed, looking away. It was making him really uncomfortable, with the pinkette practically straddling him and all.

"No," Natsu said firmly. "Did'ja know you're an idiot?"

"Apparently so, considering you call me one a hundred times each day," Gray mumbled.

"Well, you're a pretty cute idiot," Natsu whispered, cradling Gray's clenched jaw.

"Thanks," Gray said, his voice going an octave higher than usual. Natsu felt his heart beat speed up and grinned.

"Did that make you nervous?" Natsu chuckled, trailing his hand down to Gray's chest.

"Maybe," Gray answered, blushing. Gray glanced around nervously, making sure no one was watching and listening. Immediately, Mira looked away and pretended to shine a glass.

"Will this make you nervous?" Natsu teased, leaning in. His nose brushed by Gray's rather chilly one, making Gray shiver. Natsu blew a bit of air on his face, but lingered in his position mere millimeters away from the raven.

"What are you doing, Natsu?" Gray managed to get out. He tried to sit up, but Natsu pushed him back down rather harshly.

"You aren't going anywhere," Natsu whispered, dragging him to his level and smashing their lips together. Fists clenched Gray's shirt, pulling him so close there wasn't any space between them.

After overcoming his shock, Gray reciprocated energetically, slipping his tongue between Natsu's lips. He wrapped his arms around Natsu's waist and pulled him closer, which didn't really seem possible. Natsu tilted his jaw to deepen the kiss further, exploring Gray's sweet mouth.

One Natsu's hands traveled upwards to Gray's hair, and other fell loosely on the floor. He stroked the obsidian locks, earning a small sigh from Gray.

A few minutes of heavy face-sucking later, the two lidded-eyed mages pulled away. A trail of saliva connected the two mages. They were still attached to each other affectionately, until Natsu stood up and helped the other to his feet.

"I think you won that one," Natsu said, dazed. His eyes were glazed over and his cheeks were painted crimson. Gray nodded, speechless, and looked at his shoes. They both turned around and walked separate directions, looking awfully surprised in themselves, yet elated.

A gaping Mirajane almost dropped her glass cup and cleaning rag when she saw everything, and bit down on her bottom lip to refrain from screaming hysterically and congratulating them.

Mirajane finally was able to understand what Lucy meant. Natsu couldn't love her, because his heart was already for his opposite, Gray. It was definitely unexpected in Mira's eyes, that's for sure.

But it wasn't for that careless trip, they wouldn't have realized their secret affection themselves.

They may be embarassed, hell, they were probably feeling really fucking mortified and confused right now, but they'd come around. And they'd be happy.

Because after all, rivals don't fall in love.

[FANGIRL SCREAMS LOUDLY LIKE JUVIA]

wow an actual length one shot woohoo
anywhoozies, I hope you enjoyed fight, it was pure fluff and really short, haha. I had fun writing this one ;) Even though I'm exhausted and it's 4 am.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
I'm going to be writing an actual Gratsu fanfic!

That's right folks!

A GRATSU FANFIC! With actual plot, developing relationships, and all that wonderful shit!

If you remember, this was supposed to be a six day long prompt, but I've been doing these for a little less than a month now.

So, instead of doing a measly one-shot for #6, Alternate Universe, I'm going to be doing a complete fanfiction for it ^^

It will be dedicated to @KaneTheGreat, whose Gratsu AU inspired me to make it :3

I will be doing more one shots, but they'll probably be short like this one. I do have ideas, but I'd love it if you dropped a comment and gave me a suggestion.

I guess that's it, guys. Thanks for being here to read this! xoxo
