What Is Micro Fiction?

The terms "micro fiction" and "micro narrative" or even the used or misused flash fiction are sometimes defined as a narrative text below 300 words, and include these diminutive subcategories: the drabble (100 words), nanofiction (55 words), and Twitter fiction, aka twitterature (140 characters).

Through micro fiction writing we are able to compose a whole story in just a few words, learning how to synthesize an entire image and narrow it down to the smallest version of a story. The key is to utilize the least words but only those words that impact, are essential and contribute to the complete meaning or essence of the literary piece.

Avoid unnecessary names but use nouns, include precise adjectives and try not to use too many adverbs. Focus in a moment, feeling, image, smell, sound or sensation. Remember sometimes the least is the best!
