I wake up, get ready, and get to school not al all expecting what happens. Homeroom goes pretty normal until the morning school news comes on. "Hey guys! I have a special announcement regarding the school dance! We'll be selling cards through which you can ask a person to the dance! They only cost 8 cents a card so get em' now!" She says. The TV shuts off and the class goes crazy! Until lunch basically all I hear from my peers is

It's annoying. Anyway, lunch is a moment of freedom where I can just talk to the people who get me and take a break from the da---- neveeeer mind, they're talking about the dance. "So, Mara, you have an idea of who you want to go with?" Peach asks. "Well, I don't really know." I say. I honestly think I'm going to end up going alone or with a group of friends. Nobody except for Peach, Link, Rock, and Aiden really is close to me here. "You aren't thinking of going alone are you?" Peach asks. "Come on! Nobody's gonna want to go with me." I say. I hear a snort to my left and next thing I know there's a hand on the back of my chair. I turn and Link's standing there, looking down at me with this either mischievous or seductive glint in his eyes. "What if I asked you to the dance?" He says with a smirk. "Then that would be really awkward and I'd say no cause I know you don't like any of the girls here." I say, playfully pushing his hand off of my chair. "My goddesses! You didn't even blush!" Link laughs, sitting back down. I look around to see everyone else's reactions towards Link's little fail. Peach is about to fall out if her chair with laughter, Rock has facepalmed, but he used the table instead of his hand, and Aiden is just kinda staring at Link. After lunch I realize that there's a nickname for the rapidly selling cards. They're being called 8-bits, because of the price of 8 cents, and of course all of our video game ties. Of course, Link gets about a million within 10 minutes. Peach gets one from Mario which I know personally she ripped up and threw in the trash. Rock, Aiden, and myself get nothing. Were all fine with it though.

2 days later at lunch

"So Mara, have you gotten an 8-bit yet?" Aiden asks through a mouthful of school pizza. "No, I'm not really expecting to, ya know?" I say. If you think I'm trying to make them feel sorry for me then your wrong, I really just don't expect to get a card! "Hm, Rock?" Aiden asks, transitioning to Rock. "Nope, like Mara, not expecting one." He says. "You guys have low expectations!" Peach exclaims. "Nah, we just know that nobody has a crush on us!" I giggle. After that, lunch goes as normal. Not very interesting, but then, life's not always major events.
