Chapter 36- (Raven Multiverse)

Others see what Karma can truly do. This sadly only makes them worry more

———

Raven Multiverse

Dream had thought they could wait longer to enact their plans but yesterday's incident changed things. They had all felt the power go through the room, that chilled the air. It felt like a snake hidden just out of sight, getting ready to strike when you least expected. Nightmare had shared the role that Karma had but he didn't think it meant that much power.

He had almost been tempted to call Reaper for help. In order to make sure Karma hadn't been harmed from the release of magic, but Dream hesitated. He remembered the fear and pain he felt when Karma talked about Reaper. He couldn't find it in himself to inevitably make the fear worse, even if it would be easier. He would instead ask if Raven and Goth would be able to meet him up tomorrow.

He felt a bit sick he was enacting this plan but Nightmare had assured him Karma had been through much worse. That sadly didn't make him feel better, especially when he called Karma over for a chat.

Looking at them he didn't see any signs of the terrifying magic, that made them appear as the biggest threat in the room. Instead he saw a tired child, still in the cat onesie, looking at him with curiosity.

"Do you remember how yesterday you...sorted out the spirit?"

"Yes. Is there more that needs to be done?"

"NO! I mean, we just want to see how you control your powers. I worry if they may hurt you in the future".

Dream had been called often when deaths children were younger. He had to help heal many injuries sustained during training or simple accidents. While death magic was powerful, it was also rather difficult to weild. The injuries had been rather horrifying to witness but thankfully healed over with no scars.

He was relieved when he received no resistance and told them to go get changed, into something easier to move in. When they came back he created a portal, making sure to keep an eye on Karma's emotions. He grimaced at the negativity levels of the AU he arrived in but knew this was the best place to test their powers.

He greeted Reaper's childrens but kept watch on how Karma was reacting to the dark atmosphere. He knew these two were trained enough to stop any issues that may occur but he had also contacted Error. They would be the last line of defence if things went horribly wrong. He stiffened when he felt the same cold magic build up and saw Karma's eyelight start to flare with magic. He prayed he would not regret allowing this to occur.

Dream had been acting odd since lunch at Nightmares castle. After everyone had finished eating, he had been allowed to read more in peace. The adults seemed to want to discuss something but he didn't care enough to ask or listen in.

He happily sat next to the bookshelf and pulled his cat hood up, enjoying how warm he felt. He squeaked in protest, when he was lifted away from his little hoard but quieted down when he saw it was time to head back. He leaned against Ink's hold, appreciating at least one monster that rarely changed how they acted.

He refused to take off his new outfit at bed time and chirped in glee when he won the argument. He was currently sleeping in Blue's room, as the spare bedrooms were apparently stuffed with Inks art supplies. He didn't care where he slept as Blue wasn't even here and he never really personalised his own room when living with auntie. As long as it was warm and dry, he could sleep.

Breakfast was the usual chocolate but this time there was already a bite taken out of the bar. He hummed in approval, when Dream's voice caught his attention. He stumbled out of the kitchen, observing how nervous Dream looked. What could possibly be wrong now?

"Do you remember how yesterday you...sorted out the spirit?"

"Yes. Is there more that needs to be done?"

"NO! I mean, we just want to see how you control your powers. I worry if they may hurt you in the future"

What an odd monster. He doubted that was the truth but he didn't mind. This felt similar to Reapers 'lessons' on always being prepared. Mainly so his magic wouldn't lash out and potentially hurt others. He concealed a shiver at the memory of Reaper's anger getting out of control and the number of monsters he had dusted in his rampage. He never knew what had triggered them but the lessons became harsher after that incident.

Once he verbally agreed he was asked to change into something else. He wanted to protest that he could perform his duties no matter the outfit but worried what the consequence would be. Coming back he followed Dream straight through their portal and his senses alightend at where they were.

He could sense the death lingering in air and all the SOULS calling, to be allowed their final rest. He often found the genocide timelines the most relaxing to be in, strangely enough. There were hardly ever many monsters left, so interactions were none existent, just as he preferred.

He spotted Goth and Raven, unsure why they were here as well. This was looking more like a test as time went on. With a nod from Dream he allowed his magic to be free, allowing himself more freedom than usual. It was relieving being allowed to relax his magic and made his senses that much more effective.

He started following the slight tugs to his senses, that would lead him to the required SOULS. He started humming a cheerful tune and pulsed his magic when he passed by a SOUL, releasing it from its trapped state. This universe seemed to be a rather brutal genocide run and he doubted the 'kid' had left anyone alive.

It didn't take long to get most SOULS but he had dragged it out, to enjoy the feeling of his unrestrained magic. He knew it was necessary as he did not find any particular joy in dusting everyone around him, but he still missed how free his magic could be. He made his path towards Judgement Hall, as the last powerful SOUL was screaming for him.

He came upon the scene of the Sans heavily leaning on a column and warily watching the downed child. He observed how many magical bones had been struck through the human body and also saw burn marks. He made sure he kept invisible, as he would rather not deal with a jumpy monster.

"Won't you finally let go, little robin. Aren't you tired of all the repeats".

He watched the snarl appear on their face and couldn't help being impressed at how hardy the Red SOULS were. They never truly gave in but he didn't need their permission to take them. It was their time and while their mind said no, their SOUL was tired. He lifted his scythe and neatly slashed through the threads that were keeping the SOUL tied to this plane.

He followed the path of the SOUL with his magic and wistfully watched them float to the great beyond. He couldn't help the jealousy at how easy they got to be free. A blue thread distracted him and he spun away, when it nearly caught him. Glancing up he saw a grinning Error leaning out a portal, who playfully waved at him before sending more strings his way.

He laughed at the new game and swung his weapon to cut any threads that got too close. He spiked his magic when he was surrounded and grinned at how they quickly broke down. He had always wondered why Reaper never played around with their magic more, it sometimes felt like they were afraid of it for some reason.

-

Raven and Goth had followed the path that Karma had taken and were impressed but also worried. This had been very efficient and the control they possessed was startling. Goth had only gotten used to summoning his scythe and even his magic was sometimes a tad slow to respond.

He also hadn't been blind to the way Karma had flinched from his dad all the time. He doubted his dad did anything but he knew the other wasn't from their multiverse. He shared a look with his brother and they both understood. This result was only seen with intense training but even that may be too light of a word for it.

Dream had stayed further back to watch, as even with his guardian status he still felt a tug at his SOUL from the cold magic. Even with no knowledge of what magic they wielded, he could see the control easily. Everywhere they walked was still alive after they passed compared to Reapers magic. He couldn't see exactly what the Death's Gods could but by the faces of the other two it was impressive.

They would have to scrap the plan to send them back to their 'home'. He refused especially with all the facts mounting up. He let out a soft smile when he watched Error play with the babybones. To outsiders he was sure it looked violent but the feelings coming off of the Destroyer ruined that image. Maybe Ink was right, saying that Error was really a softy.
