"Wow. You truly are an idiot, Eclipse. I'm almost impressed. How have you survived this long? There's nothing in your Code to account for this, so perhaps it's just pure stupidity..?"
Eclipse twitched as Ink spoke up from behind him, glaring at the overly cheery smile they gave him, not giving him a chance to reply before they spoke up again .
"You know i'm right. I can see you have been busy. I'm surprised Nix is letting you so close to Karma, you must have done something right at least"
"..is that supposed to make me feel better?"
"Of course! I would have been sad if you disappeared. You are so very interesting after all"
He was unmoved by Inks 'sad' eyeshapes, their amused grin doing nothing to hide how truly entertained they were.
Both adult monsters turned as another burst of black magic flared in the air, Ink not looking alarmed despite the large area of dead plants but was now giving Eclipse a strange look.
"..you do realise they are also a Death god as well, right?"
Ink was kind of fascinated at how Eclipse could miss so many obvious signs and yet be so intelligent at the same time. Truly an odd variant he had found, poking their arm when he saw their attention begin to wander, smiling innocently at their annoyed expression.
They truly did give the best reactions though, Error sadly having grown used to him centuries ago. Maybe he should create some Guardians for his multiverse if they could be this entertaining but knew he never would. He liked his stable multiverse, no need to have 'silly wars' messing things up.
Thats why he went to visit other Creators places for that, so no cleanup was needed on his part in the end!
His smile faltered as he saw how intensely Eclipse was watching the babybones, who was practising rather hard, knowing this would likely end very badly. Deciding to be generous, as he had grown somewhat fond of Eclipse, he gave another gentle reminder.
They seemed far too forgetful for their own good, looking at them with zero expression as they gushed over Karmas progress.
"You are going to get dusted, if you continue this"
"..what? Is that a threat?!"
He was glad they were taking this somewhat seriously but still not enough for his liking. Grabbing the front of their shirt he forced them down to his level, making sure they were looking directly at him.
"You are growing far too attached. You need to back off before you overstep your boundaries. It's for your own good"
Eclipse was alarmed at the sudden switch of Inks expression, their cold soulless sockets staring straight into his SOUL, flinching as they abruptly let go, a small innocent smile on their features once again.
He was baffled and rightfully scared of the rapid change, not noticing them drink from any of their paint vials, until he realised the sudden switch was due to Karma being right next to them how did they get so close? .
" Opal? This is your multiverse?"
"Thats me and it is! I'm surprised you remember me, little butterfly. I can see you have had a few new changes since we last met. Show me those pretty wings of yours. It's like we match now!"
Ink said in an unusually soft tone, crouching down as he spread his own colourful wings, remembering how much Karma liked them the last time they met.
"Opal ?! " Eclipse mouthed in disbelief, looking at Ink as if they were an alien, the way they were interacting with the babybones utterly baffling.
Who was this imposter?!
"-really? Oneiro didn't tell me that. Congratulations, little butterfly! How are you liking my multiverse so far? Any favourite parts?"
"I like how you incorporated the wings in the AU's and i really like how bright you made the Fell AU's"
"You noticed?! How wonderful! I'm glad you didn't inherit Oneiros poor taste, little butterfly. Truly you only got the best parts"
Ink teased, amused as the babybones puffed up at the compliment in embarrassment. He gave a silent nod to Nix, who yawned to purposely show off all their teeth, smirking at the silent understanding they had between them.
Eclipse felt like he was in the twilight zone, confused about what the hell was going on. Ink being decent and kind ?! The same asshole who enjoyed tormenting him and anyone who even looked at their Creations wrong?!
And who the hell was 'Oneiro'?! He had so many questions and going by the way Inks shoulders shook slightly, they were doing this on purpose.
-
Eclipse still had no clue what was going on, Inks being annoyingly cryptic and seeming to bask in his frustration. The small meeting did cause the babybones to be happier, even asking for Opal to join them.
He was still creeped out that that was the name Ink chose, not thinking it suited the most irritating monster he had ever met in his entire life, at all.
It was another day helping Karma gain a greater control, sure they would now be able to at least resist going near anymore Tree of Feelings, shoulders slumping as his friend appeared.
"Hey Eclipse! Having fun? I have great news for you!"
He felt a shiver run down his spine at those words, fighting the urge to have his corruption cover him in reaction. He now had a new understanding of why so many Nightmare variants let their corruption out, as it felt like another layer of protection but he was determined to be better than that!
Unfortunately this response had activated far too much around Ink, their devious grin proving they had been pushing his buttons on purpose.
"Awww. You have gotten so boring. Don't you want to hear what I have to say? Don't you love me anymore?! How cruel!"
"What is it now, Ink?" He sighed, knowing they wouldn't stop if he didn't interrupt.
"Good news! You have done excellent work helping Karma, so your chances of survival have increased! More good news is that Karma also seems to like you although I'm unsure why. You are rather boring lately "
His socket twitched, their 'whispering' easily heard by him.
"-and I also got you a friend to help babysitting! I found them lost and confused in one of my new AU's, so like the Good Samaritan I am, rescued them! Meet X! They are just as grumpy as you!"
Eclipse stared blankly as Ink threw black ink in the air that suddenly froze as if gravity had no hold on it he was still baffled how Creators did anything , watching with extreme pity as a screeching monster fell out, landing face first onto the ground.
Who was he going to be stuck with now ?
He sighed as he took in the Cross variant, wanting to object to needing help but knew his objections would be ignored...like usual.
Ink acted as if this was a normal situation, grabbing the back of X shirt and scruffing them like a misbehaving cat when they didnt get up straight away. He shook them, as if that would help in any way, ignoring the whimpering of the clearly overwhelmed monster.
"I know he might not look like much but he is an excellent caretaker. Oneiro approved of them!..although, that might change after what happened. Oneiro is so not going to be happy with you, X~"
Ink snickered, while X shivered in dread at the harsh truth.
X knew that the crazy Dream was really going to kill him this time, paling in dread when he spotted another Guardian Eclipse/Guardian Type/AnOmLoY/TAKE CAUTION that reminded him far too much of Oneiro for his liking.
He shivered as they gaze burrowed on his, the sun eyeshape only bringing back memories of the many chats with the other insane Guardian.
He desperately wanted a break, nearly crying in sheer relief when Karma barrelled into him, happy he had a temporary reprise from the clearly judging gaze.
-
Eclipse hated to admit but Ink was right, X presence helping the babybones to relax by miles.
He almost pitied the monster who somehow gained Inks attention but as he was getting a break, he decided not to intervene. It was survival of the fittest and he found X to be a wonderful sacrifice to deal with Inks eccentricity.
That he hadn't even seen the Destroyer of this place spoke volumes of how odd Ink was, considering what he had witnessed in a multitude of other multiverses, thanking every god he knew that he had not been created here. He knew without a doubt he wouldn't have been allowed to leave the multiverse otherwise, especially with how possessive Ink was over all of his creations.
He was still slightly unsettled about Inks ominous warning, them refusing to elaborate no matter what he did but giving him far too many amused looks . He was getting nightmares from that look alone, knowing he was going to hate what the 'fun surprise' would be.
He had also slowly begun to get to know X, weirdly finding they had a lot in common but still baffled at their mess of emotions. They felt like they were about to break down at any moment but with how annoying he knew Ink could be, he thought they were handling things rather well.
The babybones was truly the most relaxing monster to be around and it didn't say much for Inks maturity, at how stressful he found just being near them let alone talking to them.
It was another day watching Karma practise their magic, the white fluffy menace busy with sneaking up on X to scare them, when he felt a disturbance in the AU.
He straightened up in alarm, his eyelights flaring when he sensed just who it was, not noticing how X looked like they wanted the ground to swallow them up.
He grit his teeth when the monster appeared, hating being right and prepared himself to fight them off. These types were never peaceful, stiffening at the way their gaze zeroed in on the babybones. Before he even had a chance to intervene, Karma turned towards them and the largest grin he had ever seen appeared on their face.
"Dad!"
Eclipse wasn't ashamed to admit his mind crashed, his jaw hanging open as Karma was scooped up a SwapDream, who was cooing over them in clear adoration. That the fluffy menace only looked on before going back to sleep, blew his mind. He swore that thing watched Karma 24/7, never seeing it far from the babybones and keeping an eye on anyone near them.
"My little raven. I can see you had fun but please remember to call me next time. You worried me half to death!~"
"Sorry, dad. I didn't mean to."
"I know....Have you been eating enough? Tell me everything you have been up to. I will be topping up your Inventory supplies before you even think of going anywhere else~"
Eclipse choked on his breath at the sheer parental affection, his eyes glued onto the weird Dream and baffled at the way they were acting why couldn't his brother have been like that?
He felt a cold sweat when those eyelights far too familiar for his liking finally focused on him, twitching at the smirk he was given.
"Oh. Who is this, little raven? A new friend perhaps~"
...he did not like the way that was said at all, suddenly realising why Ink had been warning him in the first place. He bet they were watching this in sadistic amusement, twitching as he felt the pressure in the air get heavier.
"Yeah! This is Eclipse. They are really nice, dad. I also found X again!"
"Why hello, X. So pleased you are ok. You and I will need a nice chat later~"
He comforted himself that at least he wasn't X right now, the malevolence dripping from their voice not giving him much hope either of them would survive this. That the babybones was giggling as he was nuzzled by their 'dad' only made the whole experience even more surreal.
Perhaps he should have stayed in his own multiverse..
