POV
Jisoo and I were unpacking the last bit of luggage in the new apartment. White-blue tiled floors that sparkled like they were covered in stars and the glorious glass inspired furniture up against the white walls. To be quite honest, I wouldn't be bung if our manager told us that this was going to have to be our brand new dorm. It was way better than my old one.
"Jen and Rosy said they'll be coming in late," informed the slender cute faced idol who modeled for most her career. She was wearing a white top paired with a cute yellow mini and luminous yellow pumps that could possibly stop traffic.
Flipping my blond ponytail back, I nodded. "Thanks, Jisoo."
In Contrary to her physique and appearance, I wore an oversized red sweater with a pair of my favorite faded Nike sweatpants. I wouldn't be shocked if I looked more homeless than a qualified Kpop idol. I liked my comfort.
"We've been unpacking for hours now," she whined before reapplying some of her bubblegum flavoured lipgloss," Could we get something to drink?"
"Sure thing, straight after the last bit of bags are done," I stated as I flung my second suitcase on to the naked bed. The mattress was still covered in plastic.
Wow, this place was really new.
A couple of seconds later, a massive creature fell on my neatly stacked clothing pile like a spider that accidentally fell from the ceiling. I screeched, "The hell! I just finished those. Jisoo!"
"Take me for a walk or I will squirm," she threatened.
"You wouldn't that would destroy all the piles I've spent the past three hours putting together!"
"Exactly," she clarified with a grin.
I hesitated. It's not that I didn't want to go outside... It was just too risky.
Due to the social status upgrade the chances I could cross paths with a certain someone have increased. I hadn't spoken to them for three years. It's not like I wasn't trying to communicate, the person didn't even bother to reply to my text when I told them that I made it... Taeyang said I should just let it slide but it still bothers me.
"Well?" Jisoo asked interrupting my train of thought. "Are you up for it? Or should I destroy your babies?"
Come on, Lisa. The person probably doesn't remember you by now. You are just paranoid.
I sighed, as Jisoo stroked my pile of jeans. "A little fresh air could do us both some good."
She shrieked in joy and bounced off my delicacies. Before I could straighten them, she had pulled me by the hand and we were half way to the door. "Woah! Jisoo! We don't even have money," I cried trying to pull back.
"Yes, we do," she laughed before whipping out Rose's purse. "Pickpocket girl has struck again."
Great, now I had two things to worry about: my folding and how Rose was going to have the both of our heads.
*****
We were walking down one of the corridors of the studios. There we waited by a bunch of ferns, as we both drank some ginger beer. Like most girls in Korea, we laughed about the upcoming season on We Got Married.
"I heard that the new couple is going to kill the headlines," she giggled before shaking her hands, "Gosh, I wonder who they are. I'm going to ship them so hard!"
"Lol could be you and Baekyun," I teased before taking another slurp.
Her face went pink. "Gosh! I would die of heart failure before I was given the chance. Plus, don't I need to be super famous?"
I shook my head in amusement. "Oh, Sooey."
"I would do it if you and Taeyang did so," she beamed.
"Keep dreaming, Sooey." I smiled as I choked on a laugh. "We are just friends. Mr BIGBANG and I."
"Then why did he send you the bouquet of daises the other day." Her clueless face was priceless.
"For me? LOL. Did you read the letter attached to them," I started but was cut short by a tall figure that made my lips numb and malfunctioned the use of my voice cords.
Walking towards the vending machine, with a red and white baseball jacket, a white shirt and dark skinnies, was the person I least needed to see. His eyes fell on me and instinctively, the volume from his earphones increased and he averted his gaze. With his newly acquired wild auburn faded hair, he walked past us like we were ghosts and made a sharp turn to face the vending machine.
As long as we didn't talk to him, everything would be fine...
"Holy, Kookie! BamBam- it's really you!"
I turned to the imbecile who called out to their death. His gorgeously light honey orbs turned to Jisoo as she ecstatically ran to his side.
"No, Jisoo," I mumbled to myself.
Despite being in Fangirl mode, she couldn't hear me and continued, "Wow, you're so good looking in person--Better than those stupid cardboard cutouts!"
I mentally face palmed myself. I just hoped she wouldn't-
"That's my friend, Lisa. From what she told me, you guys used to hang out before." To make it worse she just had to point in my direction.
Coolly, he removed his black Beat earphones and gave me the most blank expression in existence. I feigned a smile and waved at him. His look hardened before showing absolute disgust.
"Forgive her, she can be so rude," Jisoo sighed as she refocused on him.
His eyes didn't give me a moment to breath. Coldness unlike no other , they were we fixed on me as Jisoo continued to speak and I slowly froze in the corner.
"Hey BB, Taeyang sent Lisa some flowers." Jisoo grinned as a pink tinge filled my cheeks. She continued whilst poking his chest. "You mister, are slacking big time!"
"Sent Us," I corrected her before having waved my hands in panic for a brief moment before hugging myself and growing a shade darker. "It was just to congratulate us for the release of our Debute Album. G-D did the same thing with the chocolates. It's not a big deal-"
"Do you even have a Royal Dorm yet," his deep voice sliced through my sentence sounding very annoyed. For his first words, this conversation was destined for destruction.
Bam Bam sounded a little colder than usual...
"A Royal Dorm, what's that?" Jisoo asked a little to quickly. With her big Browns, she faced me with concern written all over her features and asked, "Well, Do we Lali ?"
How could I forget about the Royal Suites...
Just like everything in life, YG itself had hierarchies within the Kpop Idol system. They were three classes of dorms: The Minions, the Diamonds and the Royals. The Minions were where all the trainees took shelter after twelve to fifteen hours of practice. The Royals often referred to us as the peasants and hence from that lovely nickname you can guess they were the lowest class of dorms. That's where I used to be.
Next were the diamonds, these were the models and actors. Of Course they were trainees but with a higher degree of quality so to say. These guys were the landlords of the hierarchical spectrum. You know worthy enough to be invited to a ball but not enough to tango with the Kings and Queens. Yeah, that's where Jennie, Jisoo and Rosè came from and considering how well they were treated, it made sense why Jisoo appeared to be so clueless at the moment.
The Royals were in a whole different level... I'm talking being invited to parties with Jay Z and having worldwide tours. Never paying for a thing, wearing designer clothing, having meets and greets and having an international fan service. It was a dream come true....
I tried to answer her question. "Ermmm... Well, I think we should. I mean we are part of YG's Royal Family now. Right, Bam-"
"Pffft... Don't make me laugh. No, you're not," he interjected before rolling his eyes, "As you said yourself, Lisa, you guys released a debute album. Or if I should translate it into Rookie Language, you released a trial and error album."
"But-tt-t we made over a million views overnight on our YouTube channel," Jisoo stammered before biting her bottom lip from trembling. "That means something, right?"
He rolled his eyes once more before punching some buttons on the vending machine. "Please, you're a girl group. There's been so many failures before, you guys are just another straw of the haystack."
"That's not true!" I defended as I shielded Jisoo from any more verbal harassment. "Yeah, we're the new YG group and, shockingly, we are girls. But we are the first girl group in the company after seven years. The fact we made it to being broadcast and even supported by YG shows that we have potential !"
An intimidating scowl soon replaced his irritated look, I shuddered a little. "Well, you talk big for a minion," he added icily before taking a step forward and towering over the two of us. Jisoo's grip on my shoulder hardened as his shadow fell on us. "This isn't a playground, sweetheart. If I was you, I would remember where I came from." The last part came out as a whisper.
With that he whipped up his coke from the outlet, flicked the change in our direction and took off in the opposite direction, leaving us in the corridor his last words being, "Keep the change, you'll need it once you're back on the streets."
This wasn't the BamBam we love and know... This was something else.
He was never like this back then. No, not at all. I remembered him being cute and fun, very much like he is on Got7's reality show. Then again, YG censored everything inclusive of members. On top of that, its been five years. He's obviously grown up since then. However, considering our sweet encounter, I wouldn't say for the better...
I can't help but wonder...What happened?
Jisoo was on the verge of tears. I had to support her petite body to keep her upright, before leading her to the seat opposing the vending machine. There I started comforting her. "Don't listen to him, we worked long and hard for this. He doesn't know what he's talking about!"
"What if he's right? What if we're an experiment bound to fail," she sobered as the first trail of tears fell down her rosy cheeks. "Or worse...a one hit wonder. All those six years of training would be for nothing. We'd be for nothing."
****
"Woah, what happened to you?" The taller girl with long dark hair like Jisoo's cried as she ran up to her twin Sooey, herself. Her eyes then narrowed on me as she fetched a box of Kleenex."Lisa did you say something scary?"
I felt victimized. "What --no! Jennie why do you always assume it's my fault?"
"You put a pet tarantula in her bag last month. She couldn't sleep for days because of that," Jennie reminded me as puffed up Jisoo fell into her hands before wailing away, "Forgive me if I find that You're disgusting at times."
"What happened then?" Another voice came into the conversation. It happened to come from a rosy pink haired girl holding a small bowl of muesli and strawberry yoghurt .
"We bumped into BamBam..." I muttered under my breath.
"What's that," Rose queried again, putting her free hand on her hip.
"Jisoo wanted to venture a bit when we happened to bump into BamBam," I repeated myself hesitantly. Jennie dropped the tissue box on Jisoo's head whilst Rose's cereal redecorated the living room's floor. There was no difference in vomit and her meal in my opinion.
"Holy crap! You didn't speak to him, right?" Jennie asked the both of us as Jisoo moaned from the small lump forming on her head. Poor girl bruised like peach.
"Well, I wasn't going to-- but Jisoo was determined to say hie."
Instantly, Jennie began pinching Jisoo's ear. "Owie! Owie! Owie!" She whined as her face went beet red.
"How many times did I warn you to never speak to Him of all people!" She cried at lil Tomato Jisoo.
"He looked so lonely without his friends, I thought we could just say howdie! I mean, he used to be friends with Lali," she sighed with her big puppy dog eyes." Plus he looked so welcoming."
Rose blew a gasket. "Moron! That's how you end up on A 1000 Ways To Die! He hates newbies. Haven't you heard?"
We both shook our heads. "But why?" We asked in unison.
"No one really knows. He just really hates them. Rumor has it he destroyed the last two groups before they were able to release their first album." Jennie added as Jisoo cringed. "He's super protective of his friends as well... Gosh, I hope you guys didn't say anything stupid."
I tensed slightly. "Define stupid."
"Act all big and tough like you know what you're doing," Rose started listing, "Just speaking to him is already a problem. Most groups speak to him privately after the second album. Don't let his cuteness blind you, his fans don't know the very least about him. Well to be more specific, they don't know his dark side."
Jennie let go of Jisoo's ear and crossed her arms. "On screen he is the boy everyone adores but behind the camera the boy the world knows is long gone. Instead the Black Oppa returns. He's the Hades of the YG company."
****
Some hours had passed and we had all had some yoghurt to pass the time. It was throwback Thursday so we watched an episode of City Hunter. Tuning back to the TV an advert played on the screen before we switched off the the actual television. During the entire thing, Jisoo said she had a huge headache and went to sleep early.
We were going to join Jisoo soon after we cleaned up. Jennie and Rose were hands on the dishes, whilst I scattered off to the bathroom to take a quick piss. Surprisingly, on my way there, a pink pyjama bottomed figure peeked out of one of the bedrooms. Stunned, I jumped back. My heart rate slowed down after I recognized her cute, green and frilly Froggy socks.
"Oh, Jisoo, you scared me out of my wits!" I loud-whispered clutching my chest, "Did we wake you up?"
Her head was down the whole time so I couldn't get much out of her face. Quite frankly, she looked like the Kpop version of the Grudge. You know excluding the blue skin part...
"So it could happen, Lali," Jisoo whispered as the others prepped for bed, "I'm so sorry."
Confused, I lifted her veil of hair and that's the same moment when my heart broke. "Oh my word..."
Her once wild, and happy big brown eyes were now puffy and red against her ghostly pale skin. White flimsy shirt was wet from her bucket load of tears. "I'm so sorry, now the group's going to end because I wanted to make someone happy."
Before she could say anymore I wrapped my arms around her and planted a small kiss on her warm forehead. "No, don't beat yourself up. Jisoo, you're a good person. He's just a jerk!"
She returned the hug and spoke into my shoulder. "What if we don't make it? What if they hate us? We are not 21NE."
"Yes, we're not," I said shocking her a little," but I know one thing: we're Black Pink and we've got over ten million views on each of our videos in over a week. And we're the best Black Pink that has ever been."
"Lali, I wish I was strong like you. I wish I never spoke to him. He's a meanie," she whispered. "But what should we do if he does something? He's dangerous like Jen and Rosy said." Her voice grew croakier and her fragile frame shivered in my arms.
I couldn't stand to see her this way. Jisoo was so sweet and caring, even when she twisted her ankle two weeks ago, she refused to be benched because she didn't want to hold us back. She was better than this. We were better than this.
There and then, I decided how he treated us was not right. I parted myself from Sooey and stormed right out of the door, where Jennie and Rose ran after me pausing in the corridor just beyond our dorm's entrance.
"Where are going?" Rosè yelled as I continued my way to the elevator.
I turned in her direction to reply her as I waited for the floor level countdown. "I'm going outside. To block 58."
"Wait! Why? You crazy! That's the boy section," Jennie screamed hoping to get some sense out of me. "It's way past our curfew, Mr Cheong will have a fit! And if you get caught... Oh, God can only help you so far!"
"Well, then I died for a justly cause," I answered them as the final ding signaled, before the metallic doors parted. Luckily, it was empty so I stepped in with the relief of having concurred not bumping into Mr Cheong in the lift.
Where was I going, you are probably wondering. That's quite simple:
I was going to give Bam-But a piece of my mind.
