Drive-Ins and Bad Days {Polyrillaz}
Murdoc came through the door of Kong soaking wet. Russel arrived with makeup caked all over his face. 2D came in with an eyepatch over one eye.
Russel stared at them both. "Well, I see you've had an eventful day as well."
Murdoc peeled off his shirt. "Ya' think?"
2D rubbed the side of his face. "Well, I guess we should probably explain this..."
Russel nodded. "Yeah, I'd like to know why my boyfriend looks like a pirate."
The blue-haired man chuckled and sat on the couch. "Well, I guess I'll go first, then."
It was bright and early out in Essex that morning, and 2D was going for a stroll. This wasn't what he'd meant to do with his morning... in fact, he'd forgotten what he'd actually set out to do. But just a nice walk wouldn't harm anything.
It was a sunny day, a weekend, and children were out everywhere he looked. Sliding down stair railings, chewing on flakes of brick from store walls, and smaller children held the hands of their parents as they walked down the sidewalk. One of these children must have been intrigued by Stuart, as he ran over and pulled his mother with him.
"Mister, Mister, hey Mister!" he shouted. 2D squatted down to his level.
"What is it, kiddo?"
The child reached up and jabbed him in the eye with his finger.
"Joseph!" The mother pulled her kid back. "Sir, I'm so sorry about him..."
The young boy began to cry. "I just wanted to see how his eyeballs worked!"
Stuart covered his eye with one hand, using the other to wipe the kid's tears. "Hey, it's fine, kid..." He stood up and nodded. "It's okay, really. He's just curious." His eye watering, Stuart turned and started to walk home. As he did, he remembered what he had to do. He was out to buy sunglasses.
Russel went over to comfort him, mumbling sympathies and kissing him over his eyepatch, while Murdoc was positively rolling with laughter. 2D didn't mind, he knew it wasn't malicious.
"I told you those dents would trip someone up one day!" Murdoc chuckled.
2D laughed and sat on the couch. "Yeah, well, I can't blame him. He's just a little kid... so, that's what happened to me. What about you, Russ?"
Russel blushed. "Oh, me next? Well, um..."
Russel walked through the mall, a few shopping bags in his hands. Tea was in one large bag, and a new dress for him was in another. He felt it unfair to keep the shopping all to himself, so he'd gotten gifts for his boyfriends: a stuffed teddy bear for 2D and a thong for Murdoc (like he needed more).
"Sir!"
He turned around and saw a man at a makeup stand. He walked over, his curiosity piqued.
"You look fabulous, absolutely fabulous!" The man made a kissy face at him. Quite flamboyant. "Do you want some free makeup, honey?"
Russel looked around nervously. "Um... yeah." He held his hands out, but the man pouted and shook his head.
"No, no, dear, take a seat. We're gonna make you beautiful!"
Russel looked down, still blushing bashfully. "You guys know I can't resist makeup."
"I can see why. It makes you look so beautiful." Murdoc smiled, while Russel covered his red face.
"Yeah, sure." He used his already positioned hands to wipe the bulk of the makeup away. "The darkest foundation these people had was 'khaki'. But the free samples are nice."
"You should wear lipstick more often."
Russel slumped into a chair. "Stop trying to flatter me, Murdoc. Your turn."
He sighed. "Okay, okay..."
Murdoc walked out of Kong and leaned against the wall to smoke. He'd started at ten and never really wanted to quit. He was immortal anyway.
Dark figures lurked in the outskirts of the graveyard. Were they zombies? It was hard to tell. Half the time, it was bratty prankster teenagers or goths who broke in. He didn't want to go investigate, but he wasn't opposed to pulling a prank of his own.
As he walked, he heard shouting and laughter, surefire indicators that it was the former group who'd decided to trespass. He kept going, hiding behind a large monkey statue when he saw them.
They had saggy jeans and Nirvana shirts. Murdoc scoffed. They probably didn't know a thing about Nirvana besides "Smells Like Teen Spirit". And speaking of which, they absolutely reeked of Axe. Murdoc dodged the spatter from a water balloon they threw at the monkey's head.
Water balloons. Weak. They could've at least used eggs.
"Hail Satan," he whispered, loud enough for them to hear. They jumped nearly a foot into the air. This was too easy.
Or, it would've been, if Murdoc had been able to stop laughing.
The teens ambushed him on the other side of the statue, shouting, but he couldn't stop laughing still. He was pretty sure one of the kids had wet themselves. The kids ran away, presumably out of water balloons, when one threw back an insult that actually did make Murdoc mad.
"Faggot!"
Murdoc stood and wrung out his sweater, swiping the popped plastic balloons off him. "At least I get more than you!"
Surprisingly, through all the water, his cigarette hadn't extinguished. He put it to his lips, breathed in, and threw it down to put it out.
"Aww, poor thing!" 2D hugged him tightly, snuggling against him to warm him up.
Murdoc chuckled. "I'm fine... seeing those kids flip out was beyond worth it."
"Well, what now?" Russel sighed. "I was the only one who even had a semi-good day. Now I feel awful."
2D perked up. "Well, you know, they're showing some old horror films at a drive-in tonight! Like, Little Shop of Horrors, Nightmare on Elm Street, all that stuff. So, that'd be pretty fun!" Realizing he'd begun to ramble about his interest, he looked away, an embarrassed blush spreading across his face. "I mean, if you guys wanna do that..."
Murdoc smiled and kissed his cheek. "Of course we do."
And when night fell, Essex's drive-in was graced with a celebrity appearance. Luckily for 2D's eye, the movie wasn't in 3D. Murdoc laughed at this.
They let Noodle sit in the passenger seat and munch on Jelly Bellys, and when the movie started, the back seat was big enough for all three of them. Murdoc was wrapped in a blanket, and 2D had let Russel use his awful free foundation as paint to make it look like brains were pouring out from his eyepatch. They were both snuggled against the larger man's sides, happily watching the screen. Today was the perfect day, and nobody could tell them otherwise.
