2D saw Murdoc walk into class the next day. He was carrying all his books in a beat-up black backpack, and it was busting at the seams. He wore wrinkly blue jeans and a band t-shirt for some band 2D had never even heard of. Just another reason this boy seemed so much cooler than he...

"'Ey! Murdoc!" 2D waved from the back of the class excitedly, pointing to the empty seat next to him. It was like he was a first grader again, frantically motioning for his friends to sit by him on the first day. Murdoc fell into the seat next to him, messing with his bangs idly.

"Hey, Dents."

2D frowned a bit at this new nickname, causing Murdoc to chuckle. "That's not why they call me 2D."

"Why do they, then? Huh?" And to that, 2D drew a blank.

The rest of the class was a lot more interesting with Murdoc around. For every question asked, Murdoc had a smart-alec answer, which made even Noodle chuckle. But eventually, the bell rung, and everyone parted ways. Noodle went up to the fourth floor for a biomedical science class, Murdoc went to art, Russel went to creative writing, and 2D headed down to choir.

Usually, he could keep his mind on the music. He might've been a bit below average in most subjects, but music was his true forte. But this time, his mind was on something else entirely. He was staring off into space with a smile, barely singing the words, much less paying attention to them. His teacher admonished him for this (He mixed up a few 'mi's and 'ti's on the scales), and he was back into reality.

As he walked out to lunch, he mentally yelled at himself. Why did this guy have to be on his mind so much? Love at first sight wasn't a thing; at least, not one that 2D really liked to believe in. He used to believe "once upon a time" tales of love, but everyone told him he was just naive.

He got in line, got a tray of... whatever the strange white goo they were serving was, and walked out to find a place to sit. He then found Murdoc, Noodle, and Russel sitting at a table on the far side of the cafeteria.
