When a revolutionary street thief planned the perfect heist, he didn't expect joining the noble ranks he's trying to destroy.*
* *
The Capital tore away everything M'yu had: his family, his town's freedom, and any chance for him to live an honest life. While fat bureaucrats sit in their gleaming city, his people starve and die. Bent on evening the playing field, he lures a group of Capital Knights to his side of town, ready to steal a tool that could burn their entire society to the ground.
But when he saves a Capital girl's life instead, one of the Knights he stole from will open a door into the glittering world of courtiers. It's a deal too good for a revolutionary like him to refuse. It won't take long for him to find out, though, that when you start a fire, it doesn't burn just one house to the ground.
It burns everything.
Goose's Thoughts:
Week Thirteen is here and we have a new Sci-Fi story for you all to feast your eyes on!
This story is honestly such a good read from the very opening line to the last line of the most recent chapter. I'm in complete awe and amazement at everything from the writing style, to the world-building, and the complexity of each individual character.
Laine does such a good job with crafting every element of the story and it is clear that a lot of love has gone into this world. The backstory for our main character, the loveable M'yu, is so carefully interwoven throughout the main body of the story that none of it feels like backstory. We get subtle hints as to why he's the way he is and I love how much we see his life on the streets play into his new life.
Every character has their flaws and Laine is amazing at making the reader question whether their motives are genuine or not. Perhaps the most interesting one for me was Aevryn where I struggled to decide whether or not I like him, but it is clear that he cares for M'yu, even if he does struggle to show it. What we can all agree on, though, is that Rusman is an ass.
Even if Sci-Fi isn't your thing, this story is definitely worth checking out. The care that's gone into it is evident from the very beginning and it's so easy to follow along with the world that Laine has crafted. There are just so many details in this story that make the time worth it. I cannot recommend this story enough.
I absolutely loved this story and I cannot wait to see where it goes and to follow the characters grow.
Thank you for writing such an amazing story, Laine!
