Chapter 3: Conversation

(A lot of people didn't get the notification for yesterday's chapter. Go read it if you haven't already)

The next time that Jade arrived at the coffee shop she was pleasantly surprised to see that (y/n) was already seemingly waiting for her even though she was a bit late. "Bonsoir" she smiled as she sat down across from the boy, something she hadn't done before, Toast sat down on the ground beside her.

"Bonsoir Jade" (y/n) returned her smile as he closed his laptop and took out his earbuds.

"What are you listening to?" Jade asked as she watched the boy break off a piece of his baguette and bite into it.

"Audio drama" (y/n) replied as he slipped the earbuds into his pocket. "You?"

"Lofi. Jazz" Jade replied as she smiled. "This is my Jazz place"

"The music you listen to varies from place to place?" (Y/n) asked, prompting Jade to just shrug in response. "Interesting"

Jade and (y/n) sat in silence for a moment as the boy ate another bit of his baguette. "I already ordered your usual for you" (y/n) spoke after he finished chewing.

"Merci Beaucoup" Jade nodded as she pulled out her wallet to pay the boy back. She pulled out a few euros. "Here"

"That's not necessary" (y/n) shook his head as he took her outstretched hand and placed it back on her wallet which was now sitting on the table.

Jade shook her head but didn't argue. "Very chivalrous" she put her money back in her wallet before putting it away.

"I suppose so" (y/n) replied with a small chuckle. "How was your day?"

"Bien. I went to my classes, took an exam. Then I got a late lunch and sat in the park. Two hours later and here I am" Jade glanced down at her cat as she spoke only to see he had already fallen asleep. "Et toi?" She asked as she looked back up at the boy sitting across from her.

"My day wasn't to bad. Just a long day. An exam, lots of classwork, and I have to do some annoying project with a classmate I don't get along with"

Jade couldn't help but let out a small smirk as she listened to the boy. She did not miss being in lycée, what the Americans referred to as high school. "Sounds rough" she spoke as she reached out and pat the boys arm.

"Bon appétit!" Before (y/n) could speak again the barista had come with their orders.

"Merci" both kids replied quickly as the food and drinks were placed between them. The barista nodded before walking away.

Jade picked up her coffee and began to drink it as she watched her friend. "Tired?" She asked as she noticed the slight bags under his eyes.

"Mhm" the boy nodded as he picked up his hot chocolate and took a sip.

"I don't mind eating alone if you'd rather go to bed early" Jade spoke as she glanced outside and confirmed that the sun was already beginning to set.

"Non. I'd rather be here with you" (y/n) replied before he took another sip of his drink.

"Bad time to be home?" Jade asked with a sympathetic smile. She knew what that was like.

"Well... certainly not a good time to be home" (y/n) was slow to answer as he looked down at the half eaten baguette sitting before him instead of looking at Jade.

Jade simply nodded as she placed her cup back on the table. "Want some of my coffee? To keep you awake"

The boy seemed to consider it for a moment before shaking his head. "Thank you but no"

Jade shrugged once more as she took another bite of her croissant. "Well I'm not carrying you if you fall asleep"

"A petite girl like you? You look like you'd snap like a twig if you tried" (y/n) let out a small laugh which caused Jade to let one out as well.

"You never know. I may be stronger than I look" Jade warned as she took another sip of her coffee. "Maybe I know karate"

"Do you?" (Y/n) asked curiously.

"I do not" Jade shook her head.

"That's a shame. Would be cool to see you kick some ass" Jade laughed upon hearing that. The idea of her hurting anyone seemed silly to her.

"You're a funny little boy" Jade spoke as she took another sip of her coffee.

The boy rolled his eyes at being called a little boy but didn't argue against it. Jade was older than him after all, even if he was physically bigger. "Whatever you say old lady"

Jade laughed that. "Respect your elders" she jokingly demanded as she put down her coffee. "Do you mind if I draw?"

"Go ahead. I like seeing you draw" (y/n) replied as Jade quickly pulled her drawing pad and a pen from her bag before putting the bag down beside Toast. "What are you going to draw?"

Jade flipped to a blank page of the pad before looking up at (y/n). "Well I've got a model now. So I think him"

"A model?" (Y/n) frowned as he glanced around, causing Jade to giggle before he looked back to her and realized. "Oh! Me"

"Duh" Jade shook her head before clicking her pen and beginning to draw. She had forgotten her pencils at home so she'd have to avoid making mistakes. "How do you want me to draw you?"

"I don't know" (y/n) replied as he considered the question and its implications. "Draw me cute"

"Cute?" Jade asked with an amused look. Boys didn't usually ask for cute as far as she knew.

"Adorable" (y/n) responded immediately.

"Adorable" Jade nodded as she looked down to her paper. "Oui. That should be no issue" she began to sketch the table that they were sat at as she considered how to draw the boy.

(Y/n) watched Jade with a smile as she drew him for the next hour, only taking breaks to eat and drink. It was interesting to him how into it she was.
