A Kid and Azirafell
A new library opened in town. Some rich elderly book-obsessed guy had bought the old chapel and transformed it into a place filled with books and bookshelves.
Strangely, the owner was never once seen in town or even in his own library.
Adam heard rumors that the place is haunted. Everyone who enters the old chapel gets filled with a dark feeling of inexplicable fear and the urge to leave without touching anything.
Adam doesn't really care about books nor chapels but these strange stories made him curious. So he decides to pay the ghost-librarian a visit.
It's cold in the chapel, only a few candles light up the shelves and create creepy shadows on the book spines.
The heavy wooden door closes behind him, shutting out the natural light that is almost nonexistent in here. The once beautifully colored windows are covered in dust and spiderwebs.
The young boy walks down the aisles of dark wooden bookshelves. Every book looks older than the one before.
The place is quiet, only the sound of his steps can be heard. He lets his fingers run over the book spines printed with black and golden letters. It's almost comforting. Not like the rumors are saying.
Adam completely forgets the time, even though he doesn't open one single book.
After some time, he decides to go home and turns around, walks back the way he came from.
If only he knew where he came from. Every shelve looks like a new one, packed with books he hadn't seen before. He turns around a corner, then a second one, walks down an aisle, then another.
Is he panicking or are the shelves becoming higher, looking down on him.
The chapel wasn't so high on the outside, right? Or was it? He can't remember.
Adam starts running, but the feeling of pressure won't leave him. Every end looks longer, darker. They aisles are getting more and more narrow no matter which way he goes.
He trips over something and falls. The floor is made of stone, but feels like ice. Cold shivers run down his spine. He closes his eyes, takes a deep breath, hopes that all of this will go away, if he just calms down.
He opens his eyes again, but cannot see. It's completely dark. There is no difference between closing and opening his eyes. His heart beats faster, fear fills up his insides and drowns them.
A squeaky
Hello?
escapes his mouth.
He doesn't really expect an answer. He pulls his knees to his chest and puts his arms around them. He feels helpless, small and weak.
A small chuckle comes out from somewhere.
Another one from the other side.
Adam looks around. He's scared, he doesn't understand.
The chuckles become louder, they seem to be everywhere.
They turn into loud mocking laughter.
hahahahahahahaha
Like people looking at Adam and laughing, laughing over him like a clown that embarrassed himself.
Loud evil laughter.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Adam presses his hands on his ears closes his eyes, but he can't tune them out, they are so loud, pushing him down.
Stop, he mumbles. Please stop.
STOP! He screams.
And the laughter stops.
Hello dear boy, I have been waiting for you... Adam.
Adam takes his hands down and looks up, he freezes and stares.
Red eyes are in front of him. Hundreds, many hundreds of red glowing eyes looking down on him.
Who are you? Whispers the boy scared.
The thing in front of him speaks -he thinks- but the voice seems to come from everywhere, like an echo.
My name now is not the one I had before and not the one I deserve. It was burned, just like me. You are here to change that. You are here to bring him back, back to me. And I don't care how many lives it will take;
