she was little and she was taught 

and she was taught well 

to read and to write 

not particularly beautiful in form 

but efficient in function 

cold words flew through her mouth 

and she spoke them 

with all the warmth a child her age could muster 

but words were but words and she spoke without meaning 

and those words were heard 

and those words were answered
