Ch. 30: Hospital Blues, Pt. 3
Thierry's POV
They say that being in a medically-induced coma is like being prepared for the hands of death itself. No matter if it's for surgery or being in a car crash, it's all the same- groaning in pain as you're taken to the hospital, being forced to wait for pain medication, and then having various voices from the land of the living fill your ears while you wonder whether or not it's time to get your house in order.
And in my case, it's even worse when you're a teenager who's finally getting a taste of life after spending most of it with barbed words, fading scars, and too much remorse for what could've been. It's always been like that when one has been bullied by the school as well as family and friends.
And even as I float amongst the sea of darkness that's between the thresholds of life and death, I think about all the times that I had to suffer in silence, go without meals thanks to my family starving me because I wasn't deserving to eat their food since I wasn't living their version of the American dream, settled for less while everyone got the best in life, having to be my own best friend when Jose and Elisa weren't around and when Grandma Dru couldn't save me from the hell that was my home and dealing with the insecurities that lingered in my mind.
Too much time thinking that I wasn't perfect made me feel like that crazy chick from "Kill Bill." But at least I wasn't hell-bent on getting revenge with a samurai sword as my lone weapon. I don't think I could stand the sight of blood (unless it's my own) to commit murder, anyhow.
Back to business.
I'm just lost in the blessed void that has kept me from the hands of Ambrose and Lincoln. No doubt that Matt is dealing with them right now and my family is on their way to dealing with me. But in a way, I was expecting this to be my ultimate endgame when it came to finally biting the bullet- being killed by multiple stab wounds and all that. I was hoping for a gunshot to the head to make the waiting game quick enough to finally embrace my final judgment. But you can't have everything, I guess.
And besides, I did have a great run when I was alive: finally leaving the toxic neighborhood to attend Sammons Falls Academy, meeting Ariana and the witches who were the friends that I never had, being able to grab a hot boyfriend like Matt, and enjoying the relationship even though I wasn't sure how long it would last- it was all great to finally take a walk on the wild side even though I was the sweet and demure Good Boy of the Lone-Star State. My only regrets were not being able to enjoy it all sooner and not being able to settle the score with my family as I had planned. I don't know what might have been if I had finally gained their respect to be taken seriously enough. But at least I can finally be away from any more drama.
As for Matt, maybe he can finally be at ease knowing that I became his first love. Maybe another male can grant him a happy ending between the two of them. He did say that second-chance mates were hard to come by for anyone who lost their first one due to death or rejection unless something special required it. Who knows? Maybe She can give Matt someone to make him forget such a simple fool like I am.
A small beam of white light emerges from the darkness that slowly yet gradually becomes brighter and brighter. My body starts to lax and my soul feels more mellowed out. My eyes start to grow heavy as my heart begins to slow down its pace. And then, just as I begin to finally say a final farewell, the light began to take a more human form and becomes more and more realistic.
"Thierry, do not close your eyes! Your destiny is far from over, my child. You still have work to do and the people who love you need you to come back to them. Do not close your eyes, child!" a female's voice rang from out of nowhere, her tone sharp and powerful.
My eyes soon snap open to find the light now taking shape of an elegant-looking woman with hair the color of a clear night and her skin the color of milk chocolate. Her eyes glow brightly like a million burning candles as her white dress is void of any frills while she wears a simple pendant with a single white stone.
"Who are you?" I asked in awe. "And how do you know me?"
The woman smiled brightly, her teeth illuminating the still-dark void. "I am the Mother of all," she said. "To the rest of the world, I am known as Nyx, the goddess of night and a myth. But to those whom I have created, I am their Mother as well as yours."
My eyes went wide in realization."The Moon Goddess," I breathed.
"Yes, my child," She replied. "Do not fear me, for I have come to finally meet my child that has been kept in the dark since the day of your birth."
That took me off guard. "Ma'am, I think you have mistaken me for someone else," I commented, my face contorted with confusion. "I'm only a human being with a family that has, until recently, treated me like unwanted houseguests while everyone else at my old school and neighborhood would rather see me in a pine box for them to urinate and defecate on my corpse. And from where I stand at the moment, it looks like everyone back in Austin- including my old school- would be getting their wish."
"No, my child," She replied, frowning at the mention of my old school which was full of bullies that were loyal to my parents and sisters. "You are not to die just yet. In fact, you are not destined to die at all since You came from my womb."
"Wait, what?!" I exclaimed. "Are you telling me that I'm not human after all?!"
"You're far from being human, Thierry Lemieux," the Moon Goddess intoned. "You are My child, a werewolf that is from my lineage and destined for so much more than what you were told."
I was floored, if not confused. "Ma'am," I began.
"I know," She said softly. "I have been watching you since the day I sent you into the womb of your human mother. I have seen you be mistreated, cruelly taken advantage of by your father and uncle, made into a workhorse by your twin sisters, coerced to be a whipping boy by your cousin, and made into a punching bag by those treacherous beasts at Andrews-Carter High School. I have seen you hide your pain and misery in silence to protect yourself from being broken beyond repair so others can win. You have accepted less than what you were rightfully deserved to prevent from being mauled out of others' envy. But fate had brought you to Sammons Falls Academy to escape the prison that was forced to be called your home. It was by fate that you were led to your mate Matthieux and his family as well as finding solace in the witch coven consisting of your mentor and her drag queen allies. It was by fate that you were finally taken seriously by the other students, even though two she-wolves were angered for not being allowed to have something that wasn't theirs by right. You have been through it all, but you remained strong and truthful to the very end. And while I could not intervene on your journey, I knew that one of these days we would meet again."
I nodded. "So, what happens now?" I asked.
The Moon Goddess stood in front of me as a giant yet slender white wolf with its eyes the color of a fading sunset took to Her side. "You are to return to the living and be reunited with your loved ones, your human family members included," She replied. "And while I can feel your unease at the mention of the Lemieux family, I believe that your parents and uncle are ready to make things right with you. They had to face the wrath of Madame Ariana Vivacious and the other witches as well as your first mentor Mrs. Druscilla Fabatier as they all gave them the same ultimatum that I will give them soon: make you feel loved or lose you altogether and face their ultimate judgment day in hell where Amalie will torture them with no mercy."
"And Matt?"
She smiled brightly. "He will be waiting for you as well," she replied. "And you two will be given one more surprise by the time your mating ceremony begins before you prepare for the great war against all rogues- which your sisters and cousin will take part in to take you down."
My stomach dropped. "Ah, crap," I muttered.
"Do not fear," the Moon Goddess ordered softly. "Those girls will soon face their inevitable judgment soon enough, but you will have to make a sacrifice of your own to ensure that all will be made new."
All I could do was nod. I didn't like what I was hearing but knew that it was not up for debate.
The Moon Goddess turned her attention to the wolf beside her. "This is your wolf, my child," She intoned. At the snap of Her fingers, the wolf began to transform and take on a human form until I was soon staring at a more-athletic version of myself. "Thierry, meet your were-half. This is Kristoff."
"Nice to meet you," my masculine version of myself said to me in a dominant and more confident tone. "I've been dreaming of this moment to finally awaken in you, but you and I will not be one until we fully mate with Matt and his were-half Sirion."
"Charmed," I said.
The Moon Goddess smirked at my look of disbelief. "My child, it is now time for you to return," She said as Her glow began to fade. "Remember my words and never be afraid of the impossible. You will have many more trials to endure, but believe in my plan for your life and know that you are more blessed among your other siblings that are also from the same lineage. Trust in my plan and know that you are loved beyond comparison."
"Thierry," Kristoff said as he also began to fade away. "I will soon be in your head when you wake up. Know that this is only the beginning."
I felt my eyes grow heavy as black soon gave way to ebon, then gray, and then a giant whirlwind of many colors that were starting to make out into familiar shapes. Voices soon filled my ears once again while I felt a calming wave of bliss cascade over my body.
And then I open my eyes...
to find a teary-eyed and relieved Matthieux Rosseaux-Yanez at my right while his parents and Velvet on my left, Ariana at the foot of the bed with Mom, Dad, and Uncle Cameron behind her.
"Welcome back," Matt said, kissing my cheek. "Welcome back, my beautiful moon wolf."
And just like that, a new chapter of my life was about to begin. I was no longer Thierry Lemieux, the jaded and insecure high-schooled human who didn't know what to expect. I was now Thierry Lemieux, the direct descendant of the Moon Goddess who was getting ready for one hell of a battle against all rogues and my sisters and Mi'Chelle.
And so it goes.
Don't you guys love a good game-changing moment as much as I do? This definitely beats "Young and the Restless," "Another World," and the Twilight Saga any day.
With our Thierry being a werewolf who finally came into his powers, things will be shaking up. But you already know that more drama is on the horizon, so brace yourselves as we deal with confrontation, tragedies, a bit of a steamy session, and the grand finale that will be unforgettable! Stick around, folks! You can't go wrong!
