Chapter 12: Distractions
'Lisa?'
A knock on the door. Quiet rustling on the carpet. Lisa rubbed her eyes open, yawning a reply. 'Yeah?'
Jisoo's muffled reply came. 'Class is cancelled today. We're waiting downstairs. You have places to be.'
The door opened and Jisoo laughed at the state Lisa was in. 'Where are we going?' Lisa leaned on the doorway, eyes half-lidded.
'You mean, where are you going,' Jisoo corrected.
'Huh?'
'Just get ready.' With that, she walked away, leaving a confused Lisa.

'Finally!' Jennie exclaimed at Lisa, frantically checking her wristwatch. 'You're nearly late, let's go!'
She grabbed Lisa and dragged her out the door, Chaeyoung and Jisoo following closely behind.
She breathed a sigh of relief as she watched her oblivious friend beside her, unaware of what they were doing. Jennie had been assigned to distract Lisa while the girls behind them monitored both their situation and the other.
The girls had lost faith in the boys' ability to keep their friends in check and so had taken it upon themselves to watch over them. The work was stressful and difficult but if it meant that they would keep Lisa safe, they were willing to do it.
They could not bear to see her in pain. Not again.
Having to watch Lisa get a little bit more attached everyday to the boy they knew was no good. Smiling at them when they asked if she liked him. Her coming home at midnight, giggling, skipping her way up to her room. When she told them he had kissed her. Her very first kiss. Slowly getting used to his presence. Befriending the boys. Bonding.
And then...
Seeing her broken state, laying quietly alone on her small bed in the corner of the room, staring at the ceiling, no more tears left to cry. Whimpers and sobs at night that the girls could not mistake for anyone else's. They'd been wrong to trust him.
He hurt her.
***
The door of the dance class closed behind the remaining trio as they breathed a sigh of relief. Lisa did not suspect a thing.
They had three hours.

Hoseok slipped away from the crowd that had begun to form around a dancing Jungkook, too lost in the competition that he did not realise his friend had left him. The competition on the dancing machine on the arcade was a mere coincidence but it worked to their advantage, guaranteed to keep Jungkook distracted for at least a few hours.
He made his way back to the boys that awaited downstairs, anxiously anticipating their female counterparts, now on their way to do who-knows-what.
'There they are!' Jimin pointed at a table at a corner of the food court where three girls were seated.
The boys took their seats, awkwardly silent in their presence.
'You know why we're here,' Jisoo broke the tension. 'You guys aren't doing your jobs very well.'
Namjoon shot up from his seat, defending himself. 'And you are?'
'Doing a better job than you boys at least,' Jennie snapped.
Roseanne voiced from her seat, 'Twice now, we've seen him NEARLY talk to her, ALONE.' She shook her head. 'If we hadn't been there...'
'Those were unplanned,' Suga reasoned. 'He was supposed to be in class.'
'Yeah, well, you guys should be a lot more careful than that.'
The silence around the table was near tangible; a contrast to the chaos that was the food court.
'I'm,' Taehyung started. 'I'm not sure how much longer we can do this. One day, there's going to be a slip up. And we won't be there.'
'You're right,' Roseanne grudgingly agreed. 'It's like there's some ... line, some connection between them that just keeps them together.'
'We HAVE to try.' Jennie said, determined. 'I can't let history repeat. We can't.'
'Okay, so we're going to think of a plan.' Yoongi announced. 'But first, food. Hoseok, will you accept the honour of accompanying to retrieve our meal?'
Hoseok winked. 'With pleasure.' And the two linked arms and marched across the hall, to the amusement of their laughing friends.
And two sets of watching eyes.
