day twelve

Two days before.

Adrian rolls her eyes, shaking her head as she stares out the window on a sunny Saturday morning. Four days. Four days that she hasn't woken up to Harry sleeping beside her. Four days he has left without telling her where he is going. Four days that he comes home late. Four days that they have been on no speaking terms. Four days annoyance has been bubbling inside of her because of his untrustworthy actions.

She wonders why he acts like this. He's changing. From the five years they've been together he's always been the one to stick to his promises, yet, she has no clue where he is at this moment. The sun hits Adrian's fair skin, warming the coldness of it. Though, she wishes it were Harry right now, warming her. She misses him, and although he lives in the same flat as the girl, she could barely see him anymore, and it's suffocating her.

She turns away from the window and sets her mug onto the counter before hugging herself tightly and leaning against the edge of the island. Her sad eyes inspect outside of the open window, watching as the cool breeze calmly blows the long strands of prickly, green grass sprouting out of the ground. She notices a figure from the distance getting closer and closer to the flat. She pushes herself off the island and walks closer to the window, her heart racing. Her lips part when she notices it's Harry's black truck.

Adrian quickly exits the flat and watches as he parks the truck before exiting. He fumbles for his phone in his pocket and takes it out, looking at the screen before darting his bright, emerald gaze up to look at his glaring girl that stands at the doorway of their flat. He smiles and walks towards her, quickly putting his phone back into his pocket. "Hey Adri." he says and holds out his arms to embrace the small girl. Adrian steps backwards quickly, trying to avoid the embrace. The small, hopeful smile that slowly fades into a frown on his lips breaks Adrian's heart but he needs to know what he's doing isn't good for their relationship.

"Harry, I thought I could trust you." she says glumly as her brown irises stare back into his emerald ones sadly. Harry sighs and runs a hand though his hair, pulling at the roots harshly.

"I-I know babe. It's just work has been so stressful." Adrian's heart feels as if it has fallen down to her stomach. She swallows and looks to the ground before flickering her glossy eyes back up into the man's.

"Harry." she breathes, shaking her head slowly. "Are-are you ch-cheating on me?" she says with a shaky voice. Harry's eyes widen and mouth falls agape.

"No!" he exclaims in disbelief that she would even think such a thing. He furrows his brows and shake his head, holding his arms out to the girl once again. "God, no, Adrian." he bends down and pulls her small body into a tight hug. "You know I love you babe." he whispers. Adrian nods and trembles as soft cries escape past her lips. Her tears stain the gray jumper Harry wears but he doesn't care at the moment. He pulls back and stares down at her sadly. He wipes the tears that glisten underneath her eyes and bends down to kiss her lips. "I want you to remember always that I love you." he says and softly smiles at her. "No matter what."

Adrian sniffs and smiles slightly. "Do you promise?" she asks quietly her heart racing as she waits for his answer. Harry shakes his head and sighs.

"Babe, you don't even know how much I love you. How much I think about you. How much I wish I was with you instead of anywhere else." Harry bites his lip and swallows. "So yes, I definitely promise." Adrian wraps her arms around the back of his neck and rests her head on his hard chest, listening to his heartbeat. They stand in front of the doorway for a few minutes. Adrian's eyes closed as Harry stares, emotionless, at the wooden door. He doesn't know if he could keep a promise now. He doesn't trust the world right now. Not even himself.

Even though he loves this girl, he has to break a few promises. Just so he could protect her in way that she will never learn of because she can't ever know what danger she's in.

Later in the dark, starry night, the man sits at the small dining table. The blue inked pen moving across the worn out pages quickly. A dim light illuminates the dark house. He writes down everything. Everything that's been on his mind, that's been happening in his dark, troubling life.

All the secrets untold. Lies revealed. Promises broken and apologies said. The man sniffs, tears burning the back of his eyes as he writes the letter. His hand shakes profusely as he writes hastily. His whole body trembles violently because of the weakness he feels in his bones. He hasn't eaten, drunken or slept for days. He's exhausted. Dark circles rest underneath his eyes. He wishes he could tell Adrian, the girl he loves deeply with no doubt, what's been going on for days, but, he can't.

In the leather journal he doesn't forget to explain the love he feels for her. How much he wish he could give his all to her. He really doesn't want her to forget how much he is in love with her. It's like words can't describe how deeply the love is. This girl, Adrian, fixed him. She didn't stop until all the pieces of his shattered life were fixed and he is grateful for that.

He remembers when he lost all hope. He didn't think that anything positive would come into his life again. When something did, he remembered he pushed it away. He's glad that that something came running back. He puts down the pen onto the notebook and wipes his glossy eyes, staring down at the paper with drained, dull irises.

He doesn't know when he will give this to her, but he knows it will be soon, and it has to be in the right way. A way that she will remember he loves her till no end.

Even when he's gone.
