Chapter 62
I wobble walking to the bathroom and I almost trip over something.
Why am I feeling like this...
I didn't consume any alcohol or drugs.
I smash the door behind me as soon as I enter the bathroom. I go to the sink and rinse my face with cold water.
It helps for a bit but I am still feeling nervous and strange.
I trip again over the carpet and I hit my elbow on the corner of the sink.
"A- ah," I groan in pain and I slowly stand up as my vision gets even more blurry.
The door opens when I'm about to put my hand on the handle.
"Derek?" I ask unsure as I can barely see his face.
He grabs me by my waist and we sit on the corner of the bathtub.
It's not Derek.
"Are you okay?" Alexander asks with worry in his tone and I shake my head.
"I feel... so weird," I mutter and I can't see his expression.
"Maybe you just need to rest. Let's go to Dominic's room," he says as he helps me stand up and I go out of the bathroom with him, too wobbly to walk on my own.
We get to Dominic's bedroom back where I medicated Derek and he helps me lay on the bed.
I bring my hand to my forehead and the pain is unbearable.
"Can you tell Derek to come?" I ask him and he nods.
"Okay. Wait here," he says and walks out of the room.
Ten minutes pass and Alex comes back.
"What took you so long? Where is Derek?"
"I can't find him but I really need to tell you something, Veronica," he mutters and I get worried. I try to sit up but I feel too wobbly.
He comes to grab me and he helps me stand up.
"Derek is selling drugs, again, he is with Felix all the time," he says and I put my hand on my forehead, trying to stay still as my head is throbbing and my heart skips a beat.
"No..." I shake my head which makes my head hurt worse. "He wouldn't do that..." I say in disbelief.
"He did it several times. Derek is dangerous."
"He isn't. I know him," I say refusing to believe what Alex just told me.
But Derek was so weird and mysterious these weeks, his new car and apartment, he isn't talking to Shanice, he disappears for days...
He even admitted that it's one of Felix's cars.
"How do you know that?" I ask unsure and Alexander looks away.
"I buy cocaine from Felix and I've known Derek for a few years," he explains and I try to go back to the bed but Alex catches me before I trip.
Right... Felix even came to beat the shit out of Alexander for whatever reason...
"W- why did Felix injure you that time?" I stutter as he wraps his arms around my waist, pulling me way too close to him.
"It doesn't matter-" He shrugs.
The door opens and I try to shove Alexander off me to see who it is as he is blocking my view and not letting go of me.
"Seems like you two are having fun," Derek spits annoyed and I finally push Alex off me.
"It's not what you t- think." I wobble walking to him and I wish I hadn't done that.
The look of disappointment on his face says it all.
"I asked for one thing, Veronica. One thing and that was for your own good-" Derek raises his voice noticing how I walk.
"I d- I didn't drink alcohol!" I yell back at him and he rolls his eyes, while Alex is watching us... with a pleased look on his face?
"Just look at yourself- you did cocaine again, didn't you?" Derek asks with disappointment and I shake my head confused.
I didn't... I didn't take any drugs. Why am I feeling like this?
"I'll leave you to it," Derek says, and before he leaves I grab his arm.
"This is y- your problem, you don't trust me and you will never trust me!" I yell, trying to ignore the knot forming in my throat.
"Do I have any reason to trust you?"
I laugh bitterly. "Where are you going now?! Selling some drugs to high schoolers?" I ask with evident rage in my voice and he looks at Alex.
"What are you talking about?" Derek asks irritated and I pull his arm closer to me and I close the door as the noise from outside is too much.
"Alex told me."
"What did you tell her, you piece of shit?" He goes to Alex, pushing him and Alex does the same. They are almost the same height.
"The truth."
"For fuck's sake, Ronny, I'm not selling drugs. I had to help Felix because he is always threatening me. I just drive people around."
"Ah. That's why the new car."
"Yes."
"You need to stop hanging out with Felix. He is going to get you in trouble!" I tell Derek and he shrugs.
"I'm already in trouble, if I ignore him he will fuck me up," he says and it makes me so worried.
This is what James meant. And he will have way more proof if he goes to the police while Derek is actually hanging out with them. Fuck.
"Alex, leave," I say through gritted teeth and he rolls his eyes, visibly irritated but he obeys.
He finally leaves us alone.
"I didn't do drugs, neither drank. And I am so tired of you not trusting me!" I spit annoyed as I try to sit on the corner of the bed to gain some clarity.
"Fine, I believe you." He comes closer to me and I look up at him. "Most of the time I trust you, sometimes it just gets to me. It's just hard to trust the people you hang out with." His tone is slightly sweeter than before.
"I have no idea what happened to me but I promise you all I had today was a glass of juice-"
Oh. It has to be that. I either switched it up with someone else or someone put something in it...
"You should never leave your drink alone," he says annoyed and I nod.
"I know... I was just so- worried," I say trying to look around but the room is still spinning.
"I'm sorry for accusing you straight away. I don't trust Alex. I don't want you near him," he says in a possessive tone and I wish I could say the same about Olivia but I remember I still have to hide from her.
"I am sorry for- not believing you," I admit and he caresses my cheek.
"It's hard to not forgive this cute face," he says and I giggle.
"You aren't making it any easier either," I flirt back and he smiles.
"And regarding Alex... I came here to rest and I told him to tell you to come-"
"He didn't even come to me. Don't trust that piece of shit," he says as his jaw clenches.
Alexander has been acting unusual lately, especially since I overdosed.
Maybe Irène is right...
"Derek, I need to tell you some-" I get cut off by the door opening.
Olivia and James.
"Oh, here are the lovers," James says and I put some distance between me and Derek. Still feeling kinda nauseous.
Derek comes to reach for my hand but I ignore him. I don't want to act this way. I now realize James wasn't lying and he will ruin Derek if he wants to.
Derek isn't making it any easier by hanging out with Felix.
I need to talk to Nicole again. I need to do something.
Olivia is staring dead at me in the eyes and Derek seems so confused.
"Get out of here," Derek hisses at them and Olivia acts offended.
"Babe, don't say that," she flirts with him and I want to fucking smash her head.
He ignores her and they leave.
As soon as they leave the door open after they left, I realize I have to leave too. I just know she is going to make me pay for it if I stay here any longer.
I walk to the door but as I'm about to leave, Derek pulls me by my waist and my back is against his chest.
He embraces me and he lays his head on the crotch of my neck. His hot and heavy breath hits my skin causing me tingles.
"Are you jealous?" he whispers as he embraces me firmly.
"I- I am not," I lie. I am but it's better if I pretend I'm not, what if he says something to Olivia and annoys her further?!
God, I can't believe I'm scared of them. I am genuinely worried for Derek because I know how easy it could be to lose him.
I break the hug and I walk to the door, making sure he doesn't snatch me again.
"I'm going to grab some water..." I mutter and he seems suspicious but he nods.
When I close the door behind me, I see Olivia staring at me from the hallway.
She walks to me and I roll my eyes. I can't catch a break with her around.
"Did you put something in my drink to make me fight with Derek?!" I accuse Olivia and she laughs.
"I don't need to do anything like this to ruin your 'relationship', you already do that on your own."
I frown, I doubt anyone other than Olivia would put something in my drink.
"I told you to stay away from De-" she hisses at me.
"I could ignore Derek but he is never gonna be with you, you get that, Liv?" I mock her and she laughs.
"Didn't seem that way when he fucked me," she says and I chuckle.
"It's been almost five months since then, get over it! Honestly, you are really pathetic," I say and she frowns, getting into my face.
"You know what's pathetic? How brave you are considering the only thing that is keeping James from telling everything is... me. He doesn't give a shit about you neither Derek and he won't hesitate to put him behind the bars. You should thank me," she says and I stare at her in disbelief.
I'm completely utterly fucked, and so is Derek.
