letter two

November 29, 2041.

You won't believe what I found the other day. Our graduation caps.

That feels like so long ago, yet I would believe you if you said it was yesterday. We worked so hard for that moment, standing to thunderous applause and throwing our caps in the air.

"Congrats to the class of 2022." Those words echoed in the large stadium, almost drowned out by the thousands of now-former college students. I was surrounded by people I had never seen before, but it felt right. We shared tears and smiles and laughter, all of us celebrating the fact that the sleepless nights, the research papers, the empty bank accounts, it was all finally over.

You found me not ten minutes later, picking me up and spinning me around as you laughed joyfully. We had been dating for almost two years at that point, and nothing made me happier than to see your smile.

I remember the way your brown hair was tousled slightly, looking like you had just woken up. I remember the way your white shirt made you look like you were glowing. I remember you, Seungmin, and the way you kissed me in the crowd of graduates like we were the only ones there.

We went for ice cream after. That was our tradition; the day after finals, we would go and get ice cream to celebrate the fact we're still alive after all that suffering. It was our last hurray, the last time we'd get ice cream as college students.

You always made fun of me when we got ice cream, feigning disappointment every time I ordered vanilla. You weren't much better, with your chocolate peanut butter ice cream.

I think about our college days a lot. I was full of fear my freshman year. I didn't want to grow up; I wanted to pretend I was still a carefree teenager who had to ask permission to go to a high school dance. I wanted to pretend that I wasn't an adult and I didn't have to make my own decisions.

I met you the first week of class, and I regret it to this day that I turned you down when you asked me out the first time. But I'm glad you stayed my friend, and I'm even happier you asked me again when I was ready.

I've been thinking about us and how you helped me through the lowest points. I'll be here for all of yours. I promise.
