42: Thorny strings
Ignore mistakes, please
Third person P.O.V
Taehyung was still on the call when the loud chaos broke out in the room he had just locked himself into. Making a small creek to look outside, he gasped to find Jin, Namjoon, and Jackson standing near the main door of the house, as if ready to stop a big storm. And the thought came true when Jungkook sprinted out of his room, looking totally out of his senses.
"Sire, please. Don't go." Jin was the first to try, only to fail when Namjoon closed the door just when Jungkook stared his way.
"Taehyung? Is everything alright? I can hear some commotion on your side." Hoseok's worried voice brought him back to the call, but he just gulped thickly when Jungkook's white eyes settled on him, making him rush back instantly and lock the door.
With an out-of-control heartbeat, Taehyung stayed rooted against the locked door to shut every voice coming from the outside. The situation slowly dawned upon him, erupting raged breath out of his dry lips.
"It's... it's a full moon night." Slumping down against the wooden support, he mumbled lowly, and thankfully, Hoseok didn't get it clearly.
"Hyung, um... It's alright. Don't come to pick me up now."
"What? Why? Taehyung, are you sure? You are confusing me. Is everything really alright there?"
"Don't worry. Actually, I wanted to get something, but Jungkook hyung got it for me. So... I don't need to go out now." What a smooth lie he spoke that he himself was mildly shocked with it.
"Oh, ok then. Take care, and if you need anything else, I'll be there."
"Sure, and sorry for disturbing you at this hour. Good night, hyung." Hearing some sweet words from Hoseok, Taehyung teared up. The loud shattering from the living room made him snuggle into himself, clutching the hoodie in his palm.
"Why is it happening to me?" Sniffing lightly, he ducked his head down. It was still unbelievable to see that distrust and disgust in the eyes he got accustomed to seeing warmth and love for himself. Where did it go wrong? And why Wangji was dragged into this mess?
Not finding any answer to his questions, he waited on the cold floor till it was silent outside. Not having any energy to see what happened there or face a raging Jungkook again, he just went to bed, only to stumble in another wave of pain.
It was the longest and strongest one so far, making his tears fall on his cheeks and forehead glisten in sweat, with his hands clutching his abdomen too tightly. Once it passed away, he fell on the bed, feeling exhausted to his bones.
It was alarming the way his pain was increasing day by day and getting worse. He really needs to go to a doctor or might have to bear this pain over long periods of time... deciding that, he made a plan to see one the next day, with the hope that Jungkook would be calm in the morning. As of now, he believed that his odd behavior was because of his wolf, who was losing it due to the full moon.
It may sound crazy, but he felt a sudden wave of relief washed over his body. His hyung wouldn't be that rude to him ever... it was just his wolf.
•••••••••
The knock at the door broke his nap, making him groan in displeasure at his broken rest.
"Luna, sire is calling for you in the pack house." The words sounded very familiar, and he was conflicted for a while to even open, but when those knocks didn't stop, he reluctantly opened the door to find the familiar maid standing there with her head hanging low.
"Where is he?" Knowing that Jungkook left the house hours ago after losing his control, he asked with a blank tone.
"Follow me, please." And even when he wanted to resist, his steps were going in the direction per maid guided him. He was stopped near a familiar door that was opened by the maid the next second.
"How are you, Taehyung?" The voice fell in his ears... the same voice that he almost forgot about during the past weeks. He didn't even remember the last time he heard it.
"Don't tell me you forgot about me, little one." Chuckling lowly at the puzzled expression of the boy, the older one bemused.
"You... Mrs. Jeon,"
"Yes, Luna of the pack, little human." Patting the chair placed near her bed, she chimed. "Come on, sit here. We need to check up on a few things, hm?"
Slightly taken aback at the sudden call, Taehyung was confused but still followed to sit on the chair, but before he could, the older woman smiled, staring at his body.
"It seems to be working to some extent, and we have to wait a bit more to find the results."
"Excuse me?" Taehyung frowned, not understanding the meaning behind it, and his body was still midway from touching the leather chair.
"Come on, sit here. I want to look for the -"
"What are you talking about?! I'm not getting it." Frowning at the slightly harsh tone, the older lady sighed, and without his will, Taehyung found himself sitting on the chair within reach of the bony hand.
How much he wanted to yank away the unwanted touch that was spreading over his abdomen, but he was tongue-tied, numb. She used her magic again!
A deep frown settled on her face after a few more strokes before she pulled her hand back. "You can't stop eating at this time, Taehyung. Don't exhaust yourself, or else you might lose it sooner than expected." She continued with a hard stare.
"You have some changes going on in your body, little human. And if it is a success, you can stay, or else..." Her face showed a warning just like her words, and Taehyung wasn't obvious of the gaze, but her words were vague.
"Just a month or more, maybe - then we will decide what to do with you."
"What does it mean?" Taehyung's voice was breathy, coming out in a rush as if he had been trying to speak for a long, which wasn't a lie.
Jeon Suhee looked scary at that moment when her eyes turned white for a second before she leaned back on the headboard of her bed, looking quite comfortable. "You need to give us something, Taehyung, or you can not stay here."
Frowning deeply at the twisted words, he again opened his mouth to ask, but she beat it to him. "I need an heir, Kim Taehyung. Fate played with my Jungkook's life and made you his mate, but I can not let my pack down just because you are a weakling, a pathetic male human who can do nothing!"
Gaping at the harsh tone and words, Taehyung felt at the loss of words again. What did she say? Is she even making sense?
"To stay with Jungkook, you need to do it, or you can leave." Her gaze shifted to his face. The soft eyes that once made him emotional were nowhere to be found when she continued. "By hook or by crook."
Taehyung saw her muttering something, but nothing was audible to him after that. His lips trembled to rebute... yet nothing... nothing came out of his mouth, and soon the surroundings started to be white, a blurry white till it disappeared completely, and he found himself sitting on the bed, gasping for air.
Shaky breaths fell out of his mouth when he registered his new surroundings, or more like the real surroundings because he was still in the room he locked himself after Jungkook was gone.
"It wasn't a dream! I - she..." Now focusing on the events, he felt that it was real. It wasn't a dream when he recalled everything from two nights ago. Yes, now he remembers it all how that maid led him to the pack house to meet Jungkook's mother, who definitely sputtered some nonsense.
Heaving out a deep sigh, he tossed his fringes back that were almost sticking to his forehead due to all the sweating it did. God, even recalling it all felt so scary, and he was sure that his body was trembling under her sharp gaze. But her words still felt empty.
"Why would she say so? It doesn't make sense." Falling back on the soft mattress, he tried to ponder over the words deeply. Her expressions were a crying proof of the seriousness of the matter.
Like a bolt of lightning, he got up when something made sense. Looking down with his unfocused eyes, he caressed his own abdomen, just the way she did.
Changes
Heir
A little wait-
"What... what in the world is she trying to do with me?!" The dull pain in his abdomen was a painful reminder of the nights he couldn't sleep because of that, and now after recalling her words, it does make sense. That witch was doing something with his body all this time while he took the matter too lightly and brushed it off thinking of just indigestion?!
"Oh lord! What should I do?! Hyung... I need to tell hyung. He has to listen to me this time. I can't let them ruin my whole life now!"
Getting up in haste with a determined mind, he made a beeline to the door only to halt when he heard some painful groans from the living room along with some hushed voices. They were back, and he couldn't just get out to face them all when they ghosted him like he never existed.
With a bitter taste lingering over his tongue, he turned on his heels only to halt when his gaze fell on the wall clock. It was three in the morning, and it was definitely not a good time to call anyone whom he previously considered to get to a hospital for a quick check-up.
A shiver ran down his spine on hearing the loud growl that soon faded away. His life was really a mess right now... pulling him into a deep well with no way out.
••••••••••••
The first thing Taehyung did once dawn arrived was to ring Hoseok's phone and again ask him to pick him up. Being discreet about his decision, he silently changed into a fleece hoodie and white trousers before going out of the room to find Jungkook's room closed.
Praying that no one should be on his way to the boundary line because it was too early, he took hasty steps to the outside of the house. His bag hanging loosely over his shoulder while one hand was clutching his aching stomach, which he refused to fill with anything from the pack.
Looking at the slightly dark area of the forest after the clearing had ended, the blue-haired tightened his grip on his phone and opened the navigation. Good thing there were signals, or else he would be doomed.
Not after almost half an hour, he was standing near the road, and that was enough to erupt a few sighs of relief from his dry lips. Licking those dry lips, he called Hoseok, who didn't take long to stop his car in front of him soon after.
"Taehyung, you are scaring me now. What is it? And why do you look so disoriented?" Taehyung chuckled, not finding a proper answer to the question because he needed to confirm as well before doing anything irrational.
"Hyung, can you just drop me at the nearby hospital? I'm feeling a bit low." Now Hoseok looked more frantic than before because he came out of the car with wide, concerned eyes.
"Where is Jungkook? Why is he not with you? He should be taking care of you!"
"He is... taking care of me, hyung. It's just that he is occupied with some important things, and I don't want to be a burden. If you are also busy then...."
"Don't! Come with me quickly. I can see your pale face and swollen bags. What in the world has he been taking care of?" Grumbling in displeasure, the older male guided him to sit inside the car and started the engine. Yet, the car didn't move any further, making their heads move around only to gasp when a man was found standing in front of their car, stopping it from moving just by putting his hands over the bonnet.
Those thin red lips were peeking out of the velvet cloak that otherwise covered all of his face, and Taehyung didn't need another second to recognize the person standing there, that only made his heart ponder erratically when the hood was removed to see the red eyes glaring at him, reminding him of the bad times like a loop of thorny strings tangling him in the whirlpool he wanted to escape again, but seemed trapped.
"Trying to run away again, mate."
