33: Never happened

Third person P.O.V

The loud barking of a stray dog rendered Taehyung to blink his eyes the whole night, and even if it wasn't the sole reason, he decided to keep it as one because the other reason was bugging him more.

After every interval of five minutes, his gaze was back on his phone that he later found inside his pants pocket, only to find it without any notification from specific someone. His heart was restless for the whole while as his fingers itched to call the contact displayed on the screen.

The hushed voice from his living room made him walk there after he was done with his morning routine, only to find Yeonjun and Hyuna setting the breakfast on the coffee table.

It looked like they were arguing, but keeping it low so as not to disturb his sleep, and it made his lips curve lightly. "What's wrong with you two? So calm and collected under each other's radar."

Hyuna straightened her back to see Luna standing there with a subtle smile, but what made her heart sad were the swollen bags underneath and the reddish lines inside those almond eyes. He must have had a tough night on his own.

"Hyung, she was teasing me for burning the omelet that I definitely didn't do on purpose, humph." Hyuna rolled her eyes not before delivering a smack on his head as she moved to urge Taehyung to the couch.

"Have some 'burnt' breakfast he made for you while I get you some juice."

Taehyung knew something was not so right, but he dismissed it and went with the flow that made him end up in the university with Wangji trailing behind to the library.

Checking his phone every now and then, he felt disappointed as Jungkook hadn't messaged him, and it was now around afternoon. It never happened in the past week when the male regularly wished him good morning with sweet words, and today, it wasn't there.

"Taehyung, are you alright, bud?" Wangji, who had a pen in between his fingers but eyes fixed on the trudging male in front, asked out in the end.

The blue-haired stopped, dropping his bag on the ground beside the chair he selected, and the former did the same, still waiting for an answer.

"You can tell me anything, you know that, right?" Taehyung felt heartwarming. The number of good-hearted people he got to know recently was overwhelming, and unknowingly, his eyes teared up, which caught the attention of already attentive Wangji.

"Taehyung?! What's wrong?"

Even when he took the last event lightly in front of the youngsters, he was badly shaken up. The blood from Jungkook's shoulder still felt fresh on his hands that were now resting on the table.

Wangji rushed to sit beside Taehyung and softly squeezed the right hand that was slightly shaking on the table. "Did... did something happen? If you want, you can take off, and I'll inform your supervisor."

"Someone got hurt while protecting me." The tall male frowned lightly, not getting the context, but when the words seeped in, his eyes widened.

"How? Are you alright? You aren't hurt anywhere, right?!"

"I'm fine... it will be all OK." Taehyung wanted to tell everything he was going through, but deep down, he did not feel good about sharing this thing and regretted blurting out what he had done a moment ago.

Why isn't he contacting me?

Wait, his injury...

Forgetting about the worried Wangji, Taehyung took his phone and rushed out of the library to call Jungkook, trying to find a suitable place to talk with the older. All the while, he waited for Jungkook to attend his call... he was literally running to the rooftop of the building where he sometimes used to go before.

To his dismay and to add more to his worries, his call was not picked up, making him call again with fingers getting slightly jittery at the wrong scenario, piling up inside his mind.

How stupid of him not to contact him before knowing well that Jungkook was shot a few hours ago, also because of him, yet he waited for him to call first, and now thinking that made him feel worse when the second call wasn't attended as well.

Oblivious to the new presence behind him, he called Soobin, who didn't attend as well, and that was more worrisome... it never happened, not even once during these two months.

The person behind him swiftly jumped around the small wall, separating two parts of the building, and was now standing at a little distance from the distressed blue-haired male. Finding the moment perfect, he took out something from his pocket, and just when he was about to use the thing in his hands, another male appeared on the rooftop, all panting and huffing.

"Kim Taehyung! Can you tell me what is happening?! Why are you panicking?" Wangji roared, another thing that never happened before, and Taehyung was taken aback by his appearance. He looked genuinely shocked and worried.

"Someone I know... he is not answering my phone and... and he got... I mean, he isn't well." It was tough but the good thing, he managed it.

"OK, don't worry. We can go to him." Wangji noticed the other male on the roof who was busy with his phone, but something didn't sit well, so he just took Taehyung's hand and dragged him down the rooftop to an empty class, causing the other male on the rooftop to curse out loud.

"Wangji..."

"You need to calm down, Taehyung. You are practically shaking, and if it is just because that person you know, is not answering your phone is not acceptable. You are hiding something, but I won't press on it. Still, you need to calm down first so we can sort it out, yeah?"

Taehyung did feel guilty for not trusting the male fully with the matter, but again, it wasn't a trivial matter to discuss with everyone.

Taking a deep breath, he faced Wangji, who had hopeful eyes. "He is... he is someone who makes me feel weird. I don't know, but... I think I started to have feelings for him." When did it happen? He wasn't sure but deep down, he was aware that it was happening... slowly but steadily. All those wishes every day and night, those soft words and delicate tone with that adoring gaze melted something inside his heart. Gone that hurt and terror the moment the raven-haired said 'No Taehyung means no Jungkook... maybe it was the last blow to the cracked walls of his heart.

There was no movement, and maybe it wasn't like this, but Taehyung felt the glint vanishing from Wangji's eyes, a dull layer covering them for a brief moment before he was back to normal.

"Oh, I see." There was an awkward silence before Wangji was getting his phone to call someone while Taehyung looked at his back, now clearly noticing the slumped shoulders.

"Let's go, I informed them about my short leave." Looking back at Taehyung, Wangji announced with a smile, and the former stayed rooted, not knowing what to do about the situation. Where would he go? Jungkook was in the forest, and he could definitely not go there with Wangji.

"Wangji."

"You never told me you like boys." Taehyung blinked, clutching his phone tightly when the question was directed to him.

"Is he... does he like you too?" Another question was thrown his way when he was speechless at the first one.

Does Jungkook like him? Or whatever he says or does just because he is his mate?

Another pause was there, but before Taehyung could open his mouth to say anything, loud screaming caught their attention. With a brief glance at each other, they rushed out to look down the corridor to find a huge crowd gathering around a specific area. As they were on the 3rd floor, they could see but not so clearly.

"Someone jumped the roof!"

"Suicide?!"

"Oh my God!"

The group of friends looked freaked out while running to the stairs to get down, and the words were already delivered to the two of them.

Wangji had his eyes fixed on the crowd before his eyes widened, and in the next second, he had Taehyung's wrist in his hand, and they were leaving the floor in a hurry.

Taehyung clutched his phone tightly when Wangji picked their bags from the library with the same urgency and dragged him out of the building, making sure he wasn't turned back to see the crowd.

"Wangji?!"

"Tae, we need to leave. I don't want you to see that. It... it looks terrifying." Taehyung gulped thickly, his heart thudding rapidly on the recall of what terrifying scenarios he had already witnessed. Thinking back, he really wasn't ready to witness anything else for now. He felt tired and spent. Going away was the best option.

Just when he was about to enter Wangji's car, his phone buzzed, and within seconds, he picked up the call to burst out in pure concern.

"Hyung?! Where were you?! Are you alright? Your shoulder.... is it alright? Why didn't you text me before?"

Wangji had his hand fisted around the bag strip that he soon threw inside the car and turned around to look away.

Taehyung bit his lips harshly at the look pause from the other side. "Hyung... please, tell me you are alright."

"Pup,"

Never in his life had Taehyung thought of feeling what he felt by just hearing a single word from a specific person, unknowingly bringing tears of relief to his eyes. His grip tightened over the phone as he waited for the older male to speak.

"I'm fine, but hearing this concern for me made me happiest."

"Why do you sound like I don't care even when you got hurt because of me?! I do care! I'm not heartless." The tone dropped to gloomy in the end, making Wangji close his eyes.

"Baby, I never meant that. You are the owner of my heart. How can you be heartless?"

Again, he was again making Taehyung feel that weird thing inside, erupting a little groan of frustration. He was really sensitive these days, God knows why...

"Taehyung, I'm all healed. If you don't believe me, I can video call to show you. I was just busy in the morning with some important matters. Sorry that I made you worry for... nothing."

"It's alright. Just... just take care." Taehyung sighed, finding his burden lessened by an enormous amount, and as he thought of ending the call because Wangji was waiting for him, Jungkook kind of shrieked from the other side.

"Wait, where are you right now, pup?!"

"I'm... I'm with my friend."

"Which friend?" Taehyung frowned, his gaze moving to the back of Wangji who was patiently waiting for him when sirens of ambulance and police cars resonated in the whole area, reminding him that there was a probably dead student inside.

"Wan -"

"Stay where you are. Yeonjun is coming to get you. Just go back to your house. Soobin just texted me about the incident at your university. It's better if you take some rest for today, pup." Taehyung didn't miss the slight change in the tone, but he agreed as he was already leaving, and now, after knowing the case, he would definitely prefer to take some mental rest.

"My friend can drop me off. No need to burden Yeon -"

"I said he is coming. Go with him, no one else. I'll see you later, stay safe, pup." The blue-haired licked his lips when Jungkook waited for his response after softly speaking.

"O.. OK. I - I'll wait for him."

The call ended after that, and Taehyung gazed up at Wangji only to feel worse. Did he wait for nothing?

Within a minute or two, Yeonjun was already there with his car, and Taehyung thought that dismissing Wangji would be rude, so he invited him to his place, which was happily accepted. The two males sat comfortably after Taehyung welcomed them inside before going to the washroom to get fresh and a bit presentable. Oblivious to the silent war going on behind his back in his living room where two students were glaring at each other with dead gazes.

Yeonjun frowned deeply at the stern gaze directed to him by his Luna's friend whom he never liked for some reason but this was the first time they were officially meeting... more like, meeting face to face.

Wangji had his eyes blank just like his face showed nothing and it irritated the younger lad. "Why are you so close to Taehyung?"

Yeonjun got another reason when he couldn't pinpoint the scent of the other male and that question just added to his doubts. Chuckling lightly at the expressions of the older male which faltered slightly when he carelessly got up to enter the kitchen to quench his thirst, which was actually an excuse to prove the level of closeness with the owner of the house, Yeonjun filled a cup of water and swirled the liquid inside that with a small smirk.

"Don't you think, it should be me to question you, Xiao Wangji?" The said male crossed his arms over his chest, waiting for the other to say something more but what was said, he never expected to hear because it had never happened before...

"Because you are anything

but a human."
