Chapter 2

Time flew by as Goldie did the housework. She didn't even care when her mom came from work and asked her a ton of questions.

"Goldilocks, did you wash the dishes?" her mom asked.

"Yes," Goldie replied.

"Good." her mom stated. "Did you fold the clothes?"

"Yes, mom," Goldie answered.

"Did you sweep the house, Goldilocks?" her mom asked.

Goldie nodded.

"Now eat!" her mom commanded as she turned around to continue working on her computer.

Goldie didn't say anything back to her mom, she just went to eat dinner. She knew Asher would stop by sometime so eating early would be the best choice today.

Goldie sliced a piece from the bread she had baked in the morning and slid in on her plate. She poured herself some tomato soup and served herself some pasta. While Goldie was eating there was a knock on the door.

Goldie sighed. Her dad had the keys and he still had to make Goldie come get the door. She sighed again and mindlessly opened the door.

"Hey Goldie!" a voice said.

Goldie jumped seeing Asher. "Oh, hi!"

"Would you-" Asher stopped, noticing the bread in her hands. "Sorry, I didn't know that you were eating."

"It's alright," Goldie smiled.

"Goldilocks!" her mom yelled. "Tell that guy to come inside and serve him some food, now! Where are your manners?"

"Okay, mom," Goldie said back, embarrassed. "I'm sorry for not offering. Take a seat, Asher!"

Asher frowned as he took a seat on the soft couch. "Is your mom always like that?" he asked quietly.

"Yeah," Goldie muttered. She went into the kitchen to get Asher some food and a drink of water.

"Here you go!" Goldie said, handing Asher the plateful of food she made. She placed the glass of water on the table.

"Thanks, Goldie!" Asher exclaimed. Goldie's mom walked by and gave Goldie a hard glare as she left.

Once her mom was gone Asher spoke up, "Why is your mom like that?"

"Why don't you ask her?" Goldie suggested.

"I'm sorry," Asher tore a piece of the bread and popped it in his mouth, "Did you bake this?"

Goldie nodded, eating her dinner.

"Wow, you're an amazing cook." Asher grinned. "I'll come back tomorrow for more."

"Thanks," Goldie grinned back. "I'm especially not making more tomorrow!"

"Goldilocks!" her mom's voice yelled. "Is this how you talk to a boy?"

"It's my life, mom!" Goldie snapped, getting up. She motioned Asher to follow her with his food. They walked outside the house to get away from Goldie's mom.

"How's your mom so rude to you even when you don't go to school just to get her things done for her?" Asher slammed a fist to the wall. "Can we get out of this place before I break something?"

Goldie nodded. "You don't have to do this for me." she told him.

"I know I don't have to but I want to." Asher told her. "I thought my parents were the worst." Asher sighed.

"Dont worry about me, I'm fine," Goldie shrugged and started walking.

"Why don't we go to the park today?" Asher suggested, changing the subject.

"Park?" Goldie asked. "Where's that?"

"I'll take you there, you'll love it," Asher told her.

Goldie smiled. Going to the park with Asher sounded like a lot of fun.

"Come on slowpoke, race you there!" Asher shouted as they came near the park. "First one to touch the soccer goal post wins!"

Goldie knew she couldn't win but she tried anyway. She ran as fast as her legs would take and reached to touch the goal post but Asher was already there.

"I won! I won!" Asher grinned.

"Next time you won't win!" Goldie challenged. She didn't know where she was getting this enthusiasm from. Maybe she wanted to prove she wasn't going to listen to her mom.

"We'll see!" Asher told her. He raised his eyebrows in challenge.

"Asher? Is that you?" a boy with dark brown hair called out. He was carrying a soccer ball and was followed by ten others.

"Asher?" a girl exclaimed.

"Oh, hey Isaac! Hey Sadie!" Asher turned around and greeted them. When Sadie waved back grinning, Goldie felt a pang of jealousy.

"Goldie, these are my friends! Guys, this is Goldie!" Asher introduced.

Goldie waved shyly at the Asher's friends. She didn't know they would be here.

"Hi Goldie! I've heard your name before. Well, do you want to play soccer with us?" Sadie asked, she tossed her light brown hair behind her.

"Hi, I would love to play!" Goldie exclaimed.

"Perfect," Sadie grinned. "Teams everyone!"

Goldie watched as Asher, Isaac and a few others walked to the other side of the field.

"Goldie, welcome to the team winners!" Sadie shouted.

"You mean losers!" Asher shouted back, grinning.

Goldie laughed though she felt jealous, "Losers? I don't want to be with the losing team!"

"Oh, if you're that good then you can help us win!" a girl with black hair and bright green eyes yelled. Goldie grinned.

"Everyone, introduce yourself to Goldie." Sadie shouted, running off.

"I'm Ivy, if you must," the girl with black hair said.

"I like it!" Goldie replied.

Ivy whispered something to the girl next to her and walked off following Sadie.

"Ivy's always so dramatic." the girl Ivy talked to walked up to her. "I'm Sarah, if you must!" the girl mimicked. Goldie laughed so hard she almost fell to the ground. Sarah made a dramatic pose and walked off.

"Well, all those girls do nothing for the team then talk." a guy with black hair said. He looked a bit like Ivy.

"Ivy's brother?" she asked the guy.

"Ivy's older brother," he corrected. "My name's Zane!"

"Everyone hurry up, we have to tell Goldie the team plan!" Sadie shouted.

"Sadie's the annoying team captain," Zane muttered, following the other teammates.

Once everyone was huddled close together Sadie started again, "What's our team plan?"

"TO WIN!!!" Everyone in the team screamed. Goldie joined along in the chant and her ears started pounding. She hasn't talked to others in a very very long time and suddenly people were right there screaming with her.

Asher walked up to them and rolled his eyes. "Such a good team plan! Our team's plan is way better!"

"Of course it is!" Sadie tossed her hair behind her shoulders and motioned them to follow.

"Captain versus captain," Zane muttered to Goldie, pointing to Asher and Sadie.

Goldie giggled, running to catch up to Sadie. "Who's the goalie?"

"Oh, Sarah's our all time goalie!" Sadie said, tying her hair up into a ponytail. Goldie did the same.

"Let the game begin!" The captains yelled when all the players were ready.

Asher kicked the ball high up in the air. Goldie ran towards where the ball landed and stole it from one of the other teams players.

"GO GOLDIE GO! GO GOLDIE GO! GO GOLDIE GO!" Goldie heard her teammates scream as she raced past a guy from the other side. She had to get a goal now. She looked up to see a petite girl as the goalie. Perfect.

"GO GOLDIE GO! GO GOLDIE GO! GO GOLDIE GO!" the chants continued.

Asher ran after Goldie as she ran towards the goal. He tried to steal the ball but she blocked him and ran past him.

"GO GOLDIE!" she heard Sadie shout.

Goldie ran even faster and kicked the ball into the goal. The ball sailed past the petite girl and flew into the goal. Goldie sank to the ground.

"GOAL! GOAL! GOAL!" her teammates shouted. They ran over to Goldie and lifted her up.

"You are our hero!" Sadie exclaimed, congratulating her.

Goldie hadn't felt happier in her life. She met new people and she was playing a game she loved. "Thank you for including me!" She thanked them all.

As the game continued, Goldie scored more and more goals. Which led her to being the new team captain.

"Sadie's such a waste!" Zane elbowed Sadie and pointed to Goldie.

"Hey! It's not my fault that you guys didn't work hard enough when I was captain!" Sadie protested.

"Zane!" Goldie grinned, high fiving him. Sadie bumped Goldie and Goldie fell to the ground.

"See, she's the loser!" Sadie stood over Goldie like she achieved something great.

"Sadie!" Sarah exclaimed, helping Goldie up. "Be nice to my friend!"

"Friend?" Goldie asked.

"Yes, friend!" Sarah smiled.

Goldie had made friends. She wanted to go prove to her mother that she was worth it but her mother wouldn't care anyways. She pushed the bad thoughts away as she continued to have the best day ever.
