Chapter 28: Sports Festival, Conclusion
"You sure she's going to be okay?" A familiar voice asked as Kula started to wake up. She blinked open her eyes and stared at the ceiling.
"She'll be perfectly fine. It seems that she was fatigued after the first few battles she had participated in and hadn't rested enough between them. That last fight with Bakugo seemed to of put her over the edge. Not to mention my recovery quirk drained some of her energy." Recovery Girl responded, "Your daughter will wake up before the end of the day."
A sense of dread filled Kula— she didn't know they were here watching the Festival in person. She glanced over at them
"That's a relief." Mr. Saito sighed.
"Yes. It's nice to know that Miss Saito has such caring parents."
"Of course. She is our only child, and we've already lost her once." Mrs. Saito stated, her voice a sickly sweet.
Kula wanted to scream, she wanted to get up and punch her parents in their dirty, lying faces. She wanted to expose the truth to everyone, she had her chance, Recovery Girl would see it all. But, she couldn't move. She couldn't talk. Her limbs felt like they were filled with rocks, and it felt like her mouth wasn't taking command from her brain. Before she was forced back into unconsciousness, she spotted some shining gold held tightly in Mrs. Saito's palm. Glancing at her hands, she saw that her hands were ungloved, and her palms were facing upwards, to her fingertips didn't make contact with anything in the room. While she was out. Too tired to panic, Kula slowly started to slip into unconsciousness.

Kula had woken up not too long before the awards ceremony, finally able to move her body. She wasn't necessarily well rested, but then again, she never had been well rested. After getting a new pair of gloves from her bag, she started to walk along the hallways, only stopping when someone shouted out to her.
"K!" Mika shouted, running up to Kula with a wide smile on her face. "Glad to see you up and walking! I tried to see you earlier but Recovery Girl told me you needed time to rest."
"Yeah. That hedgehog really put up a fight, I can't believe I survived as long as I did. Oh, sorry I missed your battle against Todoroki."
Mika shrugged, "It's all good. You missed mass getting beat." She shrugged. "Luckily he only used his ice during this match— guess I'm not as special to him as that Midoriya boy is."
"But, hey. You still got third place."
Mika stared at her, "You're saying that like you didn't get it either."
"What do you mean?"
"With the way the finals were this year, there were four people in the semi-finals, which means only two people got to continue on for first and second place and the two who lost in the Semis both get third place since there's no way to determine only one person to get it without an extra match."
The dread she had been feeling from her parents earlier eased slightly. She had won something as big as third place in the U.A Sports Festival, and the other person to win that place just so happened to be one of her best friends.
"Well, what are we waiting for, the Awards Ceremony is starting soon!"

"The first year Students have completed all the events for the U.A Sports Festival!" Midnight announced from above kula. She and Mika were standing on a podium that was going to rise up into the field— something about being dramatic— if anything, the way Bakugo was chained up and muffled was dramatic enough. "Now it's time to relax and enjoy the awards Ceremony."
The crowd cheered and Kula felt the podium she was standing on start moving up. Kula found it hard to keep her cool as she stood next to the screaming feral animal that was Bakugo, what an excellent way for a hero course student to present himself to the public. She shared a glance with Mika, who seemed to be thinking the same thing.
"Now, let's break out the hardware! Of course, there's only one person worthy of distributing the award."
Kula looked up to see the mighty silhouette of All Might stadning on the of the stadium. As the familiar sound of his laughter reached her ears, the crowd started to cheer.
"Citizens! I am here to-" All Might started as he jumped off the room.
"All Might, the number one hero!" Midnight interrupted. All Might looked at her and she smiled sheepishly, "Ruined that, didn't I?" She cleared her throat and the two of them seamed to recover from the small mishap, it wasn't long before she was standing him holing a tray with four medals on it. Two copper, one silver, and one gold.
All Might chuckled and grabbed the two copper ones, walking up to Kula and Mika. "Young Hawajima." All Might said, "Congratulations. For a Support Course Student, you held your own very well against those with battle training. Your strategies are truly awe-inspiring. Congratulations." He gave Mika the medal.
"Aw, shucks. It was nothing." Mika said.
All might nodded, gave her a hug, than turned to Kula.
"Young Saito. For not using your quirk, you managed to get very far. You are proof that witts and raw talent can excel over those who seem to be stronger or faster. Good Job."
Kula just nodded as the medal was placed around her neck, and before she knew it, All Might had wrapped his arms around her in an embrace similar to the one he gave Mika.
"I can see you're not letting your past deter you." He said just before he pulled away, only loud enough for Kula to hear.
Kula looked up and watched as he turned away to grab the other medals to give to Todoroki and Bakugo. She watched as All Might placed the Silver medal around Todoroki's neck, Kula couldn't shake the feeling of the embrace. Though she barely knew the hero, she had felt warm and safe in his arms, maybe it's because she's never had a real hug in a while, or because he was the Number 1 hero.
As All Might moved to hand Bakugo his medal, he made the bad choice of removing his muffle, an d almost immediately everyone's ears were assaulted by his angered rambles.
"All Might." He growled, "Winning first place this way, doesn't prove that I'm the best one here! Even if the world considers me the winner, I refuse to accept it like this!"
"Who would of thunk that someone like that is going to be a hero." Mika whispered, elbowing Kula.
"There are angry heroes out there." Kula whispered back, "I just can't think of any right now..."
"There are few people who can keep their eyes focused on the top spot. You're one of them." All Might said, stopping the two girls from whispering. "Please accept this medal, even if you have to think of it as a scar, something you'll never forget."
"I don't want that piece of shit!" Bakugo shouted angrily, resisting as All Might tried to place it around his neck. After some struggling, it eventually made it's way into Bakugo's mouth and he bit down angrily on it.
All Might turned to the crowd, acting as if Bakugo wasn't growling angrily behind him. "Here they are! The winners of this years Sports Festival! But listen closely, any of you first years could of ended up stadning on these podiums. Think about what you've done today. You've challenged each other, learned, and climbed even closer towards your goal of being pros. I think the next generation of heroes is proving to be our most promising one yet! So I have one more thing to say! I want to hear everyone yell it with me!"
As All Might said something about doing homework, the crowd yelled out 'Plus Ultra' before booing him and stating that he missed the perfect time to say Plus Ultra, even Kula agreed that he missed the opportunity.
"Well, we did it, K." Mika said, patting Kula on the back. "We showed the world that the Support Course is just as capable as the Hero Course."
"Yeah, we did." Kula said softly.

After gathering in her homeroom for some final announcements— including the fact that the next two days they would be having oof to recover, Kula headed home, tired and wanting to be alone. She walked the familiar path to the house, keeping her eyes on the ground. She turned into the driveway and paused, staring up at the house. Her hand reached up to the medal around her neck. She clutched it in her palm and took a deep breath before walking into the building, coming face to face with her mother.
"Kula, sweetie, welcome home."
