ⅰ. THE STATION

═══════════════════════════

Fred Weasley was not the type to sit around and think about life after death. No, he was always one for living in the moment, making the best of life while you had it. However, if he were to sit down and try to imagine what
would happen when you died; never, in a million years, would he have guessed this.

Kings Cross Station was empty and almost glowing in a warm white light. Fred found himself lying on a lone bench as his eyes
slowly opened. The quiet was consuming. Moments ago there had been destruction around him; He was laughing, there were spells flying. Now he was here.

Fred's vision is unfocused and he is quick to squint in the bright light. He groans slightly. What happened? Where were the others?
Fred feels someone wiping away something
on his forehead and his gaze struggles to
focus on who was gently touching him. "Does
it hurt?" The person asks, drawing their hand back. Fred can see his blood on their fingers but feels nothing.

"Not at all," he says quietly, blinking as he finally adjusts to the brightness of the station. Seeing red hair, Fred first assumes the person before him to be a family member. However, as his eyes finally fully open he can see it's someone he doesn't recognize. Fred slowly sits up. There was no pain at all. He rubs his eyes, glancing around at the train platform. The Hogwarts Express sat still at the station. It looked odd without all the usual witches and wizards boarding it. Fred's head was spinning.

"Sirius wanted to come," The girl says and Fred looks back to her. "Since he knew you better, but I insisted," She couldn't have been much older than Fred was.

"Sirius?" Fred asks, confused. The girl nods, watching him closely.

"May I get that?" She asks, reaching up to wipe the rest of his blood away. It was a small cut near his forehead but otherwise, Fred was unscathed. The boy doesn't stop her, instead silently watching. This was unusual for him, but the situation was rather unusual, wasn't it? Her red hair was a shade darker than his and his siblings, and she had bright green eyes that Fred had seen before...

"You're-"

"Harry's Mum?" Lily Potter finishes for him. "Mhm," she nods to confirm. Fred's assumption before had been correct, she was only a year older than he, but she carried herself differently; with this air of knowledge and wisdom. Being dead for years did that to you; gave you greater insight.

"You're so young," Fred says. Lily slowly nods, her lips pressed together in a sad smile. They both fall silent for a moment as Lily finishes cleaning Fred's scrape. Just as Fred fears the silence is too terrible, he breaks it. "Am I dead?" He asks.

Lily pauses, sitting back to look at Fred. Yes, she was young, but Fred was younger, she recognized the tragedy of his death. Even further, his death date wasn't unique. Maybe people would come through this glowing Kings Cross Station today. She didn't have to answer his question, they both knew that. He knew he was. He had known it in his heart the moment he opened his eyes. Fred takes a deep breath.

"You have two choices," Lily says, her voice gentle. "You can go that way," she nods down the platform. "Go back as a ghost," She pauses. "Or you can board the train with me," she nods to the Hogwarts Expresses. "And go on,"

Fred's stomach flips uncomfortably. Did he want to be a ghost? There is a long moment of silence. Fred lets out a long breath, shifting so he's sitting with his legs hanging off the bench. Lily stays still beside him, waiting. She had her opinions, but this was his decision to make, not hers.

After an extended moment, Fred stands up, looking at the train. "No adventure like the future, right?" He says weakly. He couldn't spend eternity on Earth. At least here, he had a chance of seeing everyone again, even if it took a while.

Lily smiles. "You are a Gryffindor,"
