The Knight and the Peasant

Title: The Knight and the Peasant
Author: SirTurtletheIII

Description:
It's the year 1508 After Banishment. The world of Arkenheim is ravaged with war. The world sunders and shakes; the land is far from the paradise it had been over 1,500 years ago. But in Salvador's home of Sapinsville in the Kingdom of Sersalvon, they have never been touched by the plague of war. But Salvador grows tired of his peaceful village life and is soon thrust into the treacherous world with a knight at his side. Sauntering, swaggering, and joking his way through his new life, Salvador is thrust into a war that the likes of which Sersalvon hasn't seen in centuries. Will he hold against the tide, or will he buckle and fall. He is still a peasant... after all. [AWARDS] #1st Place in the Glory Awards for Adventure

Your title is straightforward, and lets us know immediately who the main characters will be. While it doesn't give too much away other than the characters' status, this title can still get readers interested in the characters and their adventures.

The summary is quite detailed, and I think it is doing a nice job of getting across introductory background information. You paint a nice picture of Salvador's world, describing his quest in a way that makes readers curious about his adventures outside of the village. You paint the rest of the world in a dangerous light, which will lead readers to wonder if Salvador can even survive the wars that rage in the kingdom.

There is a grammatical error in your first sentence, as you left out a period after '1508'. That impacts the flow of your summary slightly, but other than that it is quite well-written.

As far as your plot goes, I think things are moving smoothly. I like Salvador's character, and I care about his quest. You have written him in a way that led me to connect with him, and I am able to feel the same longing for adventure that he does.

You also do a good job with your character and scene descriptions, and I can tell that you have put thought into the images of your world. The descriptions make the storyline even easier to follow, and I was able to get immersed in the events of the plot.

There are a few places where you could paint an even more detailed picture of the scenery, and I want to include one of those here.

The castle had short walls of bland, grey stone. Its doors were wooden and studded with iron. The castle held no defensive advantages and seemed to be in need of maintenance. It was quite an unimpressive sight.

You tell us that the castle is in need of repair. Maybe show us a little more during this paragraph. What makes it appear as though it requires maintenance? Are the walls crumbling? Are the defenses out of date, or simply nonexistent? Draw us into the scene even more by lengthening this description.

One thing I do want to comment on is your author's note in the beginning.

Here, you wrote the following.

Also, this story is written like a novel so expect long chapters. However, don't be turned away by the prospect of reading long chapters! I just suggest not reading this book if you've got to get to somewhere.

Normally, when I see this warning in a book, I have to remind writers to be mindful of how long they make their chapters, because Wattpad has a tendency to forget reading positions if you stop reading a story and come back to it.

In your case, I have to ask why you included such a warning. Your chapters are not long. Considering that I have read/reviewed books with 25,000 word chapters, I can very safely say that yours is exactly the length it should be in every chapter. In fact, some of them are short in comparison to a lot of books I read.

For that reason, I find this note to be irrelevant and think, if you wanted to, you could cut it entirely.

I couldn't find too many grammar mistakes, aside from the odd instance of awkward wording. I don't see anything significant to worry about here, and I think your story is off to a nice start overall.

Would I recommend this story? Yes. Fans of medieval fiction will be interested in this, as well as fantasy readers. If you like adventure novels, this may also be for you.
