"hey, is this seat taken?"

   renjun looked up to see a younger boy around his age with black hair and curious eyes. "s-sure," renjun stuttered, he wasn't a very social person. the boy took a seat next to him, sighing like an old man. 

out of all places, why is he sitting here?

   the two sat side by side in silence, watching the river's water ripples move about naturally. "i'm jaemin," the boy said suddenly. renjun debated whether he should tell the stranger his name or not. he figured that they would never see eachother again anyway so it didn't matter, "i'm renjun."

   "you aren't from here, are you?" jaemin asked, recognizing that 'renjun' wasn't a korean name. "i'm from china," he explained quietly. the raventte hummed in response while renjun pulled out the gummies that he bought earlier. "want some?" he offered. "no thanks, i'm not a big fan of strawberry," the other rejected politely.

   renjun didn't know why but he took a great intrest in the male next to him. he was dressed head to toe in black and his skin looked pretty pale, as if he hadn't been outside in a few days. jaemin looked like nothing but skin and bones but he smiled widely as if he didn't have a care in the world.

   "do you live around here?" renjun asked, the other seemed to flinch at the question so renjun was quick to take it back, "you don't have to answer if you don't want to, of course." jaemin waved him off, "i don't mind. i don't live around here anyways." renjun nodded.

   the two continued to sit in silence, both staring at the water. renjun began humming to a random song stuck in his head though the other said nothing. almost an hour had passed when the raventte stood up and smiled. "i have to go, maybe i'll see you some other time?"

   renjun was startled by the question that he wasn't expecting. did he really want to see jaemin again? he made nice company for a peaceful day but renjun had been watching him out of the corner of his eye and honestly, he was a little weird. "maybe," he found himself saying before his brain could catch up to his heart.

   "bye renjun," jaemin grinned, waving as he began walking off. "bye," renjun smiled too, knowing that jaemin couldn't hear, nor see him anymore. the brunette watched the taller figure until he turned a corner, leaving renjun's sight.

   one again being alone, the chinese male sat back and watched as the sun set over the horizon. the sky turned a mix of orange and pink before settling into a nice indigo. being left with nothing but his thoughts, renjun couldn't help but wander about jaemin. he said he didn't live around the area so how far away did he really live? if i come tomorrow at the same time, will he be here?

if he is here, do i even want to see him again?

   the sky grew darker before renjun decided it was time to go home. he threw his trash away in a nearby trash bin before putting on his backpack and starting his walk home. it took about ten minutes for him to reach the place he had lived in ever since he first moved to korea as a young kid.

"halmeoni!"

   renjun entered the dark house. panic began to rise in him as he heard no response. "halmeoni, i'm home," he called again. his heart began to race as he checked the kitchen where his grandmother usually was when he got home. the frantic search only continued when he couldn't find her in the living room or her bedroom.

   "halme-," he relaxed when he saw her asleep on his bed, hugging a journal tight to her chest. seeing her sleeping state, renjun pulled a blanket over her resting body, and placed a pillow under her head. he kissed her forhead before leaving the bedroom quietly and preparing to make dinner.
