twenty seven ❀
renjun and jaemin were skipping rocks. jaemin had apparently always been good at it, so he taught renjun how to do it well.
"take a smooth rock like this," he demonstrated, showing off a long and somewhat flat rock. renjun squatted and picked out a rock similar to jaemin's, but he when he showed it to the younger, he only laughed.
"that's too big," he took it from renjun and threw it in the water from an angle. "see like that," they watched the rock disappear under the calm, dark blue waves, "it'll only sink. you need to find a smaller and lighter one." renjun frowned before picking up another one, "how's this?" jaemin inspected it before passing it back to renjun. their fingers met briefly, sending each of them an electric shock.
"that one's perfect."
a small feeling of satisfaction settled in renjun as he waited for the next instruction. "now, line your index finger along the curve, here," jaemin told. he helped renjun place his finger over the bend of the rock. the rock was now halfway in his fist, while the other half was held securely with his pointer. his thumb sat on top of the rock rather than awkwardly around it as it had been only moments earlier.
"does it really have to be this specifc?" renjun asked, growing impatient. "mhm," the pinkette nodded. "it'll held the rock skip along the surface of the water. just trust me."
renjun listened wordlessly as jaemin fixed his posture. "then you want to bend slightly like this," he showed, "and twist your body to a slight angle," he positioned himself again. "lower you arm closer to the water...," he adjusted his arm now, "pull it back carefully... and throw it."
jaemin's rock skidded across the water five times before sinking, escaping their view. "pretty simple," he shrugged, stuffing his hands in his pockets almost cockily. "easy for you to say," renjun snorted. he copied jaemin's position and gave it ago, but again, his rock only sank.
he threw his hands up in the air, turning away from the lake, "i'm over this," he sighed in frustration. jaemin refused to let him go so easily and brought him back. "c'mon, just try it again."
renjun looked discouraged and grudgingly complied. "here," jaemin pushed a flat stone into his hand. he placed his hand of renjun's, hooking the forefinger around the curve of the rock again. then he helped renjun adjust his position, and holding his elbow, carefully lowered his arm.
"the most important part," jaemin drawled, pulling his arm back. "then i want you to let go of it yourself, okay?" he asked. "okay," renjun breathed. jaemin stepped away and renjun did as he said, tossing the rock towards the water.
they both held their breath.
once again, it sank.
"okay i'm done," renjun backed away, irritation lacing his voice. jaemin didn't even try to call him back, he just laughed in disbelief. "you really don't have a knack for it, do you?" jaemin asked once he finally decided to run and catch up with the chinese male. renjun silently sent him daggers which only made jaemin laugh more.

renjun woke with a start. it had been a while since he'd last had a dream about jaemin. to see his face in his dream felt foreign, and at the same time it felt nostalgic. he couldn't remember if that'd actually happened in real life, or if his subconcious only planted it in his brain as he slept.
he rolled over in bed turning on the lamp by his bed. though it was sudden, he really wanted to go the park. maybe just for one last time.
