fifteen ❀
"thank you for coming in and joining me today," the psychiatrist said, showing the chinese male where to sit. "your friend jeno told me that you've been waking up with tears on your face and you don't know why?" she asked, pulling out an almost empty file and starting to take notes.
renjun decided to answer all of the questions as honestly as possible. "when i wake up, i often have tears on my face, that's correct," he said. "i think i might be having dreams every night that i just can't remember when i wake up. all i can remember is that they were happy ones, not sad or bad ones."
she scribbled what he said down quickly before lifting her head to look at him. "what makes you think that they're happy dreams?" she asked. renjun faltered, "i'm not sure." it was true. from what he knew, there was nothing that confirmed that the dreams were happy ones. "they just feel like happy ones, i feel somewhat happy when i wake up," he finally said.
the psychiatrist smiled, clicking her pen. "have you been having any signs of amnesia?" he asked next. preparing to write down whatever he said. "no, i remember everyth—," he paused. once again, he wasn't positive that it was true. he could've been forgetting something without even realizing it. she looked at him, expectantly with an eyebrow raised. "i-i might be forgettig something, but i don't know what it could be." she nodded and wrote down what he said once more. "have you had anything traumatic happen to you over the past six to twelve months?"
"no, my life had been pretty perfect. i get good grades, have a friend group that i love, don't get picked on at school, and live with my grandmother because my parents mostly work over seas."
"i see," she wrote every word down. as she distracted renjun by asking him more questions, she pulled out a sticky note and wrote down a note to add to his file later.
doesn't mention anyone named jaemin. either he's not comfortable enough to mention him, or he doesn't recognize/remember him.

"thanks jeno," renjun smiled as he sat across from the other boy who was busy sipping his soda. "for what?" he asked, completely oblivious to all the things he had done for the older. instead of turning their light and cheerful atomosphere to a sappy one, he decided to express everything with one sentence. "thank you for sticking by my side," he said simply. "no problem," jeno returned the smile.
renjun wasn't fully discharged from the hospital as they hadn't come up with a diagnosis yet. seeing that the boy was mostly alright, they allowed him to leave for a few hours to get some fresh air and stretch his legs. renjun's phone lit up as he recieved a message from his grandmother. "my halmeoni will be here to pick us up soon," he stood up from his seat, gathering up his burger trash.
jeno mirrored his actions, cleaning up as well. they threw their trash away and walked to the prking lot where his grandmother was waiting. hurrying over, the got in the car and sat next to eachother in the backseat.
"can you turn the radio on?" renjun asked. his grandmother obliged as soft music began playing through their speakers. the chinese boy leaning back in his seat and closed his eyes, enjoying the happy moment that he didn't want to end.
suddenly, the feeling of jeno's slender fingers brushing agains the back of his hand dawned upon him. renjun froze almost feeling uncomfortable with the situation. then he remembered that jeno was his best friend and one of the only people that stuck by his side at all times. taking in a deep breath, he intertwined their fingers, smiling at jeno.
no matter how much he tried to fight it, he couldn't ignore the feeling in his gut that told him that he was supposed to be holding hands with someone else who's name wasn't lee jeno.
but who could it be?
