Chapter 13 -- Adreve
A/N: Before you begin reading, here's a quick note: this entire chapter is in the POV of the main villain of the story. Even though this character has NOT been introduced yet, she will be coming up in later chapters. As of now, you get a small sneak peek of her. Ok, now go ahead, start reading!
"Freak. That was the word I heard every day during my childhood."
Adreve Evenie Moira was born in 2006 on September the 11th. And even though she was born before the unfortunate events of 9/11/11, don't you go thinking she had a part with it. Maybe she did. But she was five. How exactly could a five year old go about doing that? That was absurd.
Anyway, she was born with her left eye red and her right eye orange. And Adreve's dearest parents were absolutely terrified of it. They had asked--to put it in simple words--why their daughter was so 'scary-looking'.
Even the doctor was puzzled over this, and said, "Dear parents, don't worry, it's probably only a disease."
The mother squeaked in rage, clearly frightened, "A disease that I shouldn't be worried about?! Why I should worry about every disease that touches my--that.... child!"
The doctor pushed his glasses up his nose before swallowing, and then nodding, "We will be able to cure her. Please give us a few moments."
He started to step into the room where the baby was sleeping, but was blocked by the husband.
"Well, is it going to hurt? I don't want my child to be in pain, Doctor!" he whispered, his cheeks coated with a thin layer of tears.
The doctor had assured him with a small shrug, and then went about his way into the other room.
As he was examining the child's eyes with medical instruments, he could hear noises coming from the other room, where the mother and father were.
Some of them were whimpers and others were shouts.
But one specific sentence that he heard made him jump in fright.
"That child shall not be in our family. I cannot--I shall not--take it. I do not want to tarnish our reputation. Do you know how long it took me to get a good name? It took forever, and that petty child should be killed, nothing more for me to feel and nothing less."
The doctor couldn't tell who had said it--it was most likely the mother though--but he surely was angered by the statement.
How dare the mere parents of the child--who had given birth and created her--leave her to die!
And with that thought, the doctor came up with a plan.
He took an old basket and wrapped the poor baby up in a small blanket. Then he placed the girl inside of it.
As he was walking down the hall to "check with the other doctors about the baby's eyes," he quickly darted into another room, one which led to the outside world.
After doing so, he walked swiftly to the river which was a little while away.
He dropped the basket into the river carefully and prayed that whoever found the baby would take care of her and give her a better life than her birth parents could.
He gazed wistfully down the stream, as the basket swayed from side to side, while rocking gently down the river.
But then what must he do?
He could not go back to the clinic empty-handed.
So, he chose to flee.
After all, living in the forest was better than being beaten up by a mad pair of parents, wasn't it?
A/N: So, as you can tell, the language in this chapter was a bit different than the ones that I usually write. It was more... formal. So, it's supposed to be formal because this took place a little bit longer ago than some of the other stories did, and I know that 2006 isn't THAT long ago, but it's hard to explain so I'm just trying to explain it in an easier way. Anyways, the point is, the whole chapter IS supposed to be in formal dialogue and language, so I just wanted to clear that up in case you were wondering! Okay, hope you enjoyed this chapter!
