Chapter 12 -- Beatrix

Beatrix felt faint.

Intruder?

Now?

Of ALL the times the intruder could have picked!

But, they could still teleport away from the scene, right?

She shook Keefe's shoulders and asked, "Hello? Are you awake? Can you teleport AWAY from here?" She used her fingers to signal the group walking away from the hospital and flying away from this rubbish hospital, safe and sound.

Keefe looked dazed but still looked uncertain, as though he doubted his abilities. But he swallowed and muttered a word she could not hear, due to the screams of panic spreading around the hospital like the COVID-19 pandemic from 2020.

"What?! Why are you so nervous?! Keefe, we need to get out of here!!!! OMG, KEEFE!"

"It's the Neverseen, Beatrix!"

Beatrix moaned and put one hand to her forehead, a headache spiraling through her head because of the teleportation. She assumed that the effects only came following a little while after they had landed here.

The boy with the teal eyes looked at Keefe and then Beatrix, then pulled Keefe from where he sat on the ground with his hands in his face.

"Keefe, buddy, listen to me, we need to get out of here, okay? Cause if we don't, we're a piece of mallowmelt."

Keefe hesitantly nodded and wiped away a tear before whispering hoarsely, "This is all my fault, they're here for me, and innocent people will die thanks to me. All my fault."

If there was anything that Beatrix excelled at--except history, of course--it was probably encouraging others. I mean she did have a lot of practice, if you call staring at a mirror for an hour straight everyday saying good things about herself, while her parents got freaked out practice.

Beatrix took a deep breath and walked up to him.

She seemed to pause for a moment and looked Keefe up and down. Then she slapped his cheek.

"Listen to me. We need to go and we need to go NOW! So please stop whimpering and teleport!"

And in a softer tone, she added, "I believe in you."

And with that, Keefe looked at her with shining eyes, and Beatrix's heart leaped with hope.

"Help." Keefe whispered, his fingers on his temple, squeezing his eyes shut as he tried to think of where to go.

Beatrix expected to teleport to somewhere safe, but it didn't work.

They stayed rooted to the ground of the hospital.

Beatrix looked concerned and she could see that everyone else's faces matched hers.

"HeLP," Keefe repeated again louder, his cheeks turning red in anger.

"Now, don't you fret. Just because I only gave you your powers doesn't mean I can't take them away temporarily." a smooth, dark voice said.

There, just a few feet behind Keefe, stood a lady in a light blue dress with a black cape.

"Lady Gisela." Grady hissed, his hands outstretched as he pushed Bea behind him.

Even though her face was covered by the cloak, Beatrix could still see the outline of a smile curving up on the lady's face.

And whoever the lady was, the others seemed to be scared, though they didn't really show it that much. Biana and her brother had joined Grady and they were each holding similar weapon-like objects.

They were surprisingly very shiny and silver in color. They each had 6 little pointed edges which--Beatrix assumed--were the parts that would help them stab others.

Then as Beatrix was slowly backing away from the woman, it dawned on her.

Lady Gisela.

Was this... Keefe's mother?

Beatrix kept on backing away until she hit a wall.

Fear sprouted throughout her and she could tell that Lady Gisela sensed it.

"Keefe, have you made a new friend? It looks like she's a little... lost?"

And with that, Lady Gisela swiftly flew forward toward Beatrix, where she took out a small pistol-like weapon and pointed it directly at Beatrix's throat.

A/N: Note: Lady Gisela levitated to get to Beatrix, she didn't walk.

Beatrix imagined that time was slowing down, allowing her to have a painful, slow death.

And then the bullet launched out of the weapon.

In those few moments before the bullet hit her, she looked around helplessly and saw that Biana and the boy were both against the wall, each being choked... by an invisible hand?

Biana's body flickered, almost as though she was trying to vanish from sight too.

And then, Beatrix remembered, that WAS an actual elf ability! She had elf abilities too! So, she should use them to save herself right?

Except, she didn't know how to.

Hundreds of thoughts coarsed through Beatrix's mind, but it was too late. The bullet was already lodged into her body, nestled right in her shoulder. Beatrix flopped onto the floor, weak and unconscious.

**********************************************************

9 minutes later

Beatrix's eyes fluttered open and she was greeted by a girl looking right down at her.

Beatrix screamed and jumped up, scrambling to get away from her.

But then, she took a closer look at the girl and recognized her. It was Biana.

Biana put a hand over her mouth and whispered, "Shh. The Neverseen are still here. You were unconscious for a few minutes, so I brought you here away from them. Are you... okay?"

Beatrix's response was muffled because of her Biana's hand, but she nodded and Biana seemed to understand.

"Ok.. well, Grady, Keefe, and Fitz are still back there." she said,"I don't know what's happening, but I should probably go check on them."

Beatrix nodded confidently and started to stand up, "Sure, let's go."

"Oh, no. I meant just me. It's too risky for you to go now. You're still hurt. Just stay here and rest until your wound heals."

She pointed to the gnash in her shoulder, which was bleeding even more by the second. Beatrix brushed that aside for the moment, that wasn't the problem right now. The Neverseen was.

"What? But.. but... I want to help. Otherwise, how will those people leave?" Beatrix asked.

Biana let out a small chuckle and only said, "Trust me, they won't leave immediately" before walking away to where she supposed the rest of them were.

Bea's brows furrowed as she tried to comprehend what Biana had just said.

Why wouldn't they leave soon?

Yeah, she knew the Neverseen was a big threat, but they had ONE measly lady, who just had a pistol thingy. Meanwhile, they had FIVE people! Including her of course, because Beatrix was going to find a way to help, like it or not.

She slowly stood up, her feet wavering as they touched the floor.

Gradually, though, when she was at least halfway to her destination, she could feel hope building up in her.

However, when she finally reached the spot, all of that hope depleted in a second.

Lady Gisela wasn't the only one there anymore. There were also 3 others.

Yeah, it was still a pretty small group, and they weren't outnumbered, but the other group seemed to be fighting better and better by the minute.

Beatrix could see that all of her friends' energy was starting to fade away, when suddenly she heard a loud BOOM resonate through the building.

What could the sound have been?

She tried to ignore it, but just couldn't.

Butterflies bounced around in her stomach, tickling her nerves.

Then, a rumbling noise erupted from.... inside of her?

It felt like there was an entire EARTHQUAKE shaking right in her hands.

She felt queasy and stumbled over to the nearest wall to help support her.

But right as she was in contact with the wall, suddenly she stood up straight. Her spine arched in a line and her hands were splayed out in front of her.

Her eyes gazed right ahead of her and she felt... stronger? Faster? Better, overall? But there was also a little part of her that felt.... under a spell? Hypnotized, dare she say?

But that side of her was squashed down immediately.

Never mind that.

It was not time to be cynical.

And then, Beatrix wasn't Beatrix anymore.

She was being controlled by an unknown force.

One that could destroy just as well as be elegant and dainty.

She couldn't fight it anymore though.

She gave in and her eyes grew larger in size. She felt powerful. She felt ready to shatter the Neverseen into puny little pieces.

She brought up her arms and sent them crashing down.

And then she heard a shrieking, screeching noise which seemed peaceful to her, but obviously it wasn't to the Neverseen.

And then she glanced at the others, the ones who were on her side.

However, they seemed to be just as shaken as her enemies.

And then, suddenly, the whole world went dark and Beatrix only heard one word echo through her mind, "Destroy."

A/N: Seee? I TOLD you that it would be a long chapter! Hopefully it was worth the wait for you guys :)
