Chapter Twenty // Real Love
Johnny's POV
Ponyboy was currently sleeping in my arms, his face looking youthful and innocent. I couldn't help but feel joy, but remorse at the same time.
I had longed to hold Ponyboy, but not because of these circumstances.
Apparently, he had woken up sometime today in the hospital, and called for me. Needless to say, I rushed to his aid.
I felt him start to turn left and right in his sleep. I couldn't help but watch him.
I felt guilty.
It was my fault he ended up in this tragic situation.
If I had paid him more attention, if I had give him more love, maybe he would have felt worthy enough to not harm himself.
Suddenly, I noticed a pair of green eyes were looking at me.
His eyes were an emerald color, deep and emotional. His eyelashes were long and wispy, and every time he blinked, they would flutter.
"Hi, Pony," I whispered, wanting to start conversation. I saw the slightest smile on his lips.
"Hi, Johnnycakes," he mumbled back. He sounded exasperated, but pleased at the same time.
"Did you like the daisies that I got you?" I asked him. He elegantly nodded his head.
"Of course I did," he replied calmly. For some reason, I wanted him to elaborate more.
"Really? Why?" I asked. He bit his bottom lip gently, making it turn pinker than before.
"I loved them because they came from you," he whispered in my ear, grabbing my hand. He squeezed it lightly. I felt heat rushing into my cheeks, and butterflies in my stomach.
At that moment, I was certain of my feelings for Ponyboy.
I didn't just like him, no, I loved him. I adored everything about him.
I loved his beautiful, lively eyes, and his slightly toned arms that would get tanned in the summer sun. I loved his cocky smile, and his long, greasy hair. The way he blushed set my heart on fire, and his existence ignited my soul.
I knew I loved him right then and there, and nothing was going to change that.
"Ponyboy?" I questioned. He examined me a bit before replying.
"Yes, Johnnycakes?" he said curiously. The look of confusion and lust was present in his gaze.
"When you get out of here," I started, raking a breathe, "there's something special I want to do."
"What is it?" questioned Pony, wearily and excitedly at the same time. He sounded suspicious yet curious of the events that were going to occur in the near future.
"I can't tell you, its a surprise," I stated. I pulled his hand up to my face, and kissed it.
Even though he was sick, his skin was still warm. He was still the same Ponyboy.
"I have to get back to school now though, so I'll see you soon," I said. He simply nodded his head.
I could see the flustered look on his face as he blushed a deep scarlet shade.
Slowly, I stood up and walked out of the hospital room, with only one thought on my mine...
...Where should I take Ponyboy out?
