chapter two

Harry wrote every week. He told her about all his classes, his friends and his teachers. He told her all about his encounter with a troll, which she thought was insanity. He told her about how the blonde boy from the shop was called Draco Malfoy and was a cruel idiot. His friends were Ron Weasley (Ginny's brother) and Hermione Granger. She missed Harry. He also told her about this three headed dog that was sat on a trap door, guarding something. In addition, he told her about Professor Snape. Apparently, he was the potions teacher and he absolutely despised Harry.

In early November, she went on a school trip to London. The teacher ended up giving them some free time and she decided she wanted to go to Diagon Alley, she walked through the leaky cauldron and stared at the wall. Trying to remember how to open it, she tapped the right brick and nothing happened.

"You have to tap it with a wand dear" Tom told her, tapping his wand against the brick and letting her in.

"Thank you" she smiled, he nodded and she hurried off through the magical streets. She knew she had to get some money so she went up the bank,

"Yes?" The goblin asked her,

"Can I change this please?" She handed over thirty pounds, the goblin nodded and took the money from her before handing her a handful of coins. "Thank you!" The goblin didn't say anything else, so she left.

The blonde skipped down the street and walked toward the bookshop, she wanted to pick up her own copies of some of the books Harry had gotten. As she scanned the shelves a familiar voice came out behind her,

"Delilah!" She turned to see Ginny, a smile spreading across her face.

"Ginny!" The two rushed to hug one another, "what are you doing here?"

"Mums looking for a second hand cookbook, hers is falling apart" Ginny smiled, "what about you?"

"Oh I was in London on a school trip, so I thought I'd come down" she shrugged slightly,

"How'd you get in?"

"Through the leaky cauldron? You know, the pub?"

"You can see it's a pub?" Ginny looked shocked and a wide smile spread across her face,

"Well yeah... it's clearly a pub... why?"

"Only magical people can see it's a pub" her mouth dropped, that couldn't be true? Could it? Her heart was in her throat.

"W-what?"

"OH MY GOD! YOU'RE A WITCH!!" Ginny was excitedly rambling and people in Flourish and Blotts were beginning to stare.

"Ginny! What's all this- ah hello Delilah dear!" Mrs Weasley smiled, coming over to them.

"Mum! Delilah can see the Leaky Cauldron! She's a witch!" Ginny expressed, Mrs Weasley looked at her a smile forming,

"Why that's wonderful!" Mrs Weasley placed a hand on her shoulder, "you'll enjoy Hogwarts so much dear!"

She spent the next few hours with Ginny and Mrs Weasley before she had to leave to head back to Surrey with school. As she walked out through the doors of the pub, some books and wizarding sweets in her backpack, she bumped into her school friends.

"Del! Where did you go?" Maisie, a girl with short brown hair and bright brown eyes, asked. Two other girls were stood with her. Emily and Karla. Emily had black hair and bright blue eyes, and Karla had braided hair and big blue eyes.

"Yeah why are you coming out of that desolate shop?" Emily questioned,

"You really see a desolate shop?" She questioned, the girls all nodded, she nodded and cast a glance at the Leaky Cauldron, "I wanted to see inside" they all rolled their eyes and laughed as the group walked back toward the bus.

Delilah didn't know how to process the information that she could potentially be a witch, she didn't dare mention it to Harry. His letters kept coming, he wasn't coming home for Christmas. The house was incredibly lonely without him, her parents just ignored her.

As Christmas approached, Hedwig arrived, carrying a parcel. Delilah had gotten Harry a present too. Ginny had helped her pick out some quidditch stuff in Diagon alley when her parents had taken her the prior week.

Hedwig dropped a large package on her bed before looking at her, expecting food.

"Yes, yes. I know" she opened her wardrobe and found the food in the back, handing it to the snowy owl. The owl pecked her affectionately before eating the food and balancing on her nightstand.

She placed the package in her drawer so her parents wouldn't find it, hidden beneath it was one she'd received from Ginny. She'd also sent Ginny a gift, although it had been hard to choose so she got her some muggle books and makeup.

The front door slammed open, a booming voice could be heard. Dudley was home for the holidays.

"Take this to Harry for me?" She handed Hedwig the package before the bird flew out the window, even an owl knew that the Dursleys were insufferable.

Christmas was not fun. Dudley received a total of twenty five presents, much to his annoyance, Delilah got two. She got a book and a chocolate orange.

Harry had sent her some wizarding sweets and books, she'd been surprised when the chocolate frog tried to jump out the window as if it were an actual frog.

Ginny had given her a jumper with her initial on it 'D', apparently her mum made one for her and her siblings every year and Delilah had gotten one since her and Ginny were friends.

She tried to avoid Dudley whilst he was home, but it was rather difficult, he kept bursting into her room and demanding to be told that he was amazing and that she'd missed him.

Eventually, Dudley left and as slow as time moved, it was eventually her eleventh birthday. She woke up to her father having already left for work, and her mother having home to the shops. It seemed they'd forgotten. But, she still had her gift from Harry. He'd sent her more stuff from the wizarding world that she adored. Ginny had also sent her a gift, it was a knitted jumper with a cat on it. She loved it.

Then there was a knock at the door, she walked over and opened it. A tall woman who appeared to be relatively old was stood there. She was wearing a long emerald cloak and had glasses positioned on the end of her nose.

"Ah hello Miss Dursley..." The woman smiled her eyes widening slightly, "my it's remarkable...uncanny"

"Did you know my aunt?" The woman nodded,

"My name is Professor McGonagall-"

"Wait? Harry's Transfiguration teacher? Hogwarts' deputy headmistress? Did something happen to Harry? Is he okay?" The woman chuckled at her confusion,

"Your cousin is perfectly well my dear, may I come in?" She nodded and stepped aside, allowing the Professor to enter the house. The woman looked around and made a comment about how clean the house was, "now, I believe this belongs to you" McGonagall handed her a letter that was addressed to her. It looked incredibly similar to Harry's letter, the one he'd received telling him he could go to Hogwarts. Her eyes widened and she smiled as she opened it,

Dear Miss Dursley,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins on 1 September.
We await your owl by no later than 31 July.

Yours Sincerely,

Minerva McGonagall,
Deputy Headmistress

Her eyes widened even more than she thought was possible as her smile grew exponentially,

"Is this real?"

"It is very much real dear. Now, I understand your parents will not be pleased... but do not worry, you will attend Hogwarts anyway. Your cousin has agreed to share is vault with you, so you may buy your books and such. And I believe we should go do that"

"Wait now?"

"Oh of course... it's your birthday. Happy Birthday dear... did you have plans?"

"Thanks and well no-but"

"Then let us go"

McGonagall looked at her watch and held up a book,

"Grab onto the book" confused Delilah did so and seconds later she found herself being whirled through space and time, it was an extremely strange experience. When it stopped, she'd fallen onto her back in Diagon Alley. McGonagall helped her up and after a trip to Harry's vault, they collected all the things she needed for school, before eventually arriving at Ollivanders.

Ollivander smiled at her before recounting the wands her aunt, uncle and cousin received. He also recounted McGonagall's wand. He then began handing her different wands to try, eventually they found the right one.

"Larch wood with a phoenix core 11" and hard flexibility... fascinating" Ollivander smiled, staring at the wand he handed her. She didn't really know what any of that meant, but she nodded and thanked him before paying and leaving.

"Now remember, no using magic until school starts. And if you or your cousin require assistance in getting to school, simply send an owl" McGonagall smiled as they got back to her house,

"Thank you Professor" she smiled, the elder witch nodded before wishing her a happy birthday again and leaving,

Her parents were home now, they saw the trunk and belongings and her mother frowned broadly.

"Of course you're a freak... just like your aunt. How could you not be when you look like her mirror image!" The scream was loud, but Delilah ignored it. She ignored the further insults as she rushed upstairs. Getting ready to write to Harry and Ginny.

Harry and Ginny sent excited replies, Ginny was excited to already have a friend when she started Hogwarts and Harry was overjoyed that they would be together again.

The rest of the months went quickly, Delilah just focused on the fact she'd soon be at Hogwarts.

Apparently, the teacher they'd met in the leaky cauldron had Voldemort on the back of his head and tried to kill Harry, so Harry had killed him? Delilah couldn't quite understand this but she just sent a letter back, hoping Harry was okay.

It wasn't long until he arrived back, she met him on the Platform whilst her parents waited in the lobby of Kings Cross. Ginny soon found her and the two excitedly spoke as they waited the return of their families.

"Del!" Harry shouted the moment he saw her, Delilah smiled as she saw her cousin getting off the train.

"Harry!" She smiled and rushed to hug him, they embraced one another tightly and Harry swung her around slightly.

"Can't believe you're a witch too! You're gonna love Hogwarts so much!" He smiled, still hugging her close. Delilah was excited to see what the future held, soon enough she'd be at Hogwarts, with Ginny, with Harry and learning magic. She couldn't wait.

Before, she knew it, it was Harry's birthday. She'd gotten him some new books he'd asked for,

"Happy birthday Harry" Delilah smiled, going into his room, he smiled back at her as Hedwig moved around restlessly in her cage.

"Thanks Del" they hugged one another tight, her head resting on his shoulder. He was her brother, more than Dudley ever was.

That morning at breakfast, Harry's birthday wasn't even acknowledged, her father was going over his business plan for that evening.

"And you?" Vernon pointed at Harry,

"I'll be in my room, making no noise and pretending I don't exist"

"And Delilah?"

"Can't I be with Harry making no noise and pretending I don't exist?"

After a short lecture full of cruel words, she was sat on the garden bench with Harry as she handed him a cake she'd bought a few days prior and sung happy birthday to him,

"I don't have any candles but-" Harry just hugged her again,

"I really love you Del, you're the only reason I'm still here" he mumbled, Delilah hugged him tightly,

"I love you too Haz.... I'm sure Ron and Hermione meant to write... none of Ginny's letters have made it either... maybe Mrs Weasley has grounded them or something..." he nodded slightly and kept hugging her,

As Delilah was forced to mingle with Mr and Mrs Mason, she heard a banging upstairs,

"Go see what that is dear..." her father smiled through a glare and gritted teeth, she nodded and rushed off upstairs,

"Haz... maybe you should just let Hedwig out" she said as she opened the door to her cousins room, there was a creature in there with him. It had large ears and bulging green eyes and was rather short. "Umm... hi?"

"Del this is Dobby... he's a house elf... Dobby this is my cousin Delilah..." Harry explained, Delilah looked confused but nodded,

"Hi Dobby... it's nice to meet you" she smiled slightly,

"She says it's nice to meet Dobby? Oh Dobby is not used to such kindness!"

Dobby didn't want Harry to go back to Hogwarts, apparently it was too dangerous, Delilah didn't exactly understand this. Dobby had also been stopping both of their letters from getting into the house.

Dobby then used magic to try and get Harry expelled, it didn't work.

But it resulted in Harry and Delilah getting locked in their rooms for days, one day she'd been able to sneak into Harry's room when there was a knock at the window.

A group of red haired boys were in a flying car. Ginny's brothers. They then began to explain they'd come to get Harry, and Delilah.

All their Hogwarts stuff was loaded into the car and the two cousins climbed in. She looked back at her family and laughed as the car soared off into the night.
