chapter one

Number Four Privet Drive was a place Delilah didn't like being. She liked being at school because it meant she was away from the house. When she was at the house, she spent all her time with her cousin, Harry. Harry was like an older brother to her and she certainly loved him more than her own brother. Harry was forced to sleep under the stairs so whenever she could, she snuck him into her room.

Delilah found that her parents doted on her until she was five, then she accidentally made some plates shatter and they stopped doting on her after that. She didn't know why. Her parents didn't exactly hate her, but they didn't seem to love her either. She wasn't treated as worse as Harry but she also wasn't treated anywhere as near as good as Dudley. She guessed her treatment was to keep up appearances.

"WAKE UP DELILAH! IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!" Her brother screamed, throwing the door open to her room before running out, the ten-year-old jolted awake. A groan escaped her lips before she got up from the bed and got her clothes on before going downstairs.

Her brother was sat in the living room counting his presents, so she went into the kitchen to join Harry.

"Hey Haz" she smiled slightly and leaned against the counter as he was cooking eggs on the hob.

"Hey Del" he smiled back at her, they could hear Dudley start screaming about how he had fewer presents than the year before. Harry rolled his eyes and Delilah laughed at the sound.

"He's so spoilt" she commented, Harry smiled and nodded starting to put the food onto plates that Delilah grabbed.

"Do not help him!" Came her mother's shrill voice, she may not like Delilah much but she despised Harry.

"It's fine Del..." Harry smiled slightly and took the plates from her as he brought them to the table, she frowned but nodded. They both knew there was no point arguing.

Delilah sat at the table as Dudley unwrapped his present, looking incredibly ungrateful. Dudley received more presents than Harry and Delilah combined, Harry usually got nothing and if he got something it was like a fifty pence piece. Delilah usually got a few presents, none of them as nice as Dudley's.

Her parents were taking her brother, one of his friends and reluctantly her to the zoo for the day. Dudley had asked for her to go, something about wanting to annoy her.

After her mother took a phone call, she came over looking annoyed.

"Mrs Figg can't take him" Petunia complained, glaring at Harry, her father looked annoyed at this news. Mrs Figg was an old lady with many cats who Harry and occasionally Delilah were dumped on when her parents didn't want to deal with them.

Eventually, they realised Harry would be coming to the Zoo with them. Delilah smiled broadly over at Harry and Dudley began pretending to wail.

"I... don't.... want.... him.... to...come" Dudley stuttered, Petunia hugged him tightly and he flashed a malicious grin at Harry.

Moments later, the doorbell rang and petunia returned with Piers. Dudley's best friend. He was scrawny, which contrasted Dudley who was rather large. Like her father.

Once they arrived at the zoo, Harry was pulled aside by her father, and Delilah, only wanting to hang out with him followed.

"I'm wanting you boy, any funny business and you'll be in that cupboard until Christmas!" Harry nodded, then her father turned to her, "that goes for you too Delilah, no funny business!"

Delilah never did anything on purpose. She didn't mean for anything to happen. But things often did.

One time, she'd been at school when she'd seen her brother and his friends bullying Harry, she'd shouted at them to stop but they were suddenly forced back and hit a wall.

Another time, when Aunt Marge had visited and brought one of her vile dogs with her, it had been annoying Delilah so much that she snapped at it and it had shrunk to the size of a puppy.

Similar events always happened to Harry too.

Once Vernon stepped away and returned to Dudley and Piers, Delilah grabbed Harry's hand and led him off through the zoo.

The two smiled and chatted and tried to stay away from the rest of their family.

"This is the best morning I've had in ages" Harry smiled as they looked at the gorillas, she smiled at him and gave him a sudden hug. He laughed before hugging her back. "What's up? You okay Del?"

"Yeah..." she replied, still hugging her cousin, "just happy you're happy" Harry hugged her tighter,

"You're the sweetest Del... you're my favourite person, you know that?"

"You're my favourite person too Haz" she replied,

The snakes in the reptile enclosure were interesting, one of them woke up as Harry and Delilah looked at it. Suddenly, one of them opened its eyes. And winked? No.

"Did it just...?" Harry started,

"Wink?" Delilah finished, they shared a confused glance before looking back at the snake. Harry then began hissing at the snake and it was responding, confused she stared between the two. All of a sudden, Dudley and Piers ran back over, Dudley punched Harry in the ribs to get him away and he stumbled into Delilah. Then it happened.

The glass disappeared.

The snake slithered past them and hissed at Harry before going off. The screams of patrons echoed around the room.

When they got home, Harry was in trouble.

"Cupboard. Now" Vernon snapped at Harry, "No. Meals" Harry didn't protest and went in,

"That's not fair!" Delilah shouted, "he didn't do anything!" Her father turned and glared at her,

"GO TO YOUR ROOM! NOW!" She sighed and walked up the stairs, "NO DINNER!"

Harry wasn't allowed out the cupboard for weeks. Delilah snuck him food and water everyday, she often thought her parents hoped he'd just starve in there.

"Harry..." she whispered, opening the door, he sat up and smiled as she clambered in, closing the door behind him.

"Hi Del" Harry replied, she handed him a small package of sandwiches and fruit.

"It's all I could grab..."

"It's great Del, thank you..." he hugged her tightly and she hugged him back, Harry was her favourite person. Her best friend. Her actual brother.

As summer rolled around, Delilah and Harry spent most of it out in the local park with a few of her friends. Her friends were nicer to Harry than most kids at school. Most kids at school either bullied Harry or ignored him because of Dudley, but Delilah and her friends were left alone by her brother so they were nice to Harry. And Harry was also her family, the only one in her family who actually acted like they were family.

"I can't wait until Dudley's gone, it'll be just beautiful" Harry smiled as they swung on the swings in the park, Delilah laughed and smiled. Dudley was going away to Smeltings, a fancy boarding school her father had gone to. Whereas Harry was going to the local comprehensive school.

"That it will Haz" she replied, the two kept swinging and chatting.

"Haz" Delilah said as they sat in the park one day, Harry looked over at her.

"Yeah Del?" He replied, smiling slightly.

"What do you want for your birthday?" He chuckled, Delilah always got him a birthday and Christmas present, it was never anything big because it had to be something she could afford with her allowance but it was always something.

"Del... you don't have to..." a slight glare on her face made him give her an answer, "a book, something fantasy.... I'd love my own copy of the Hobbit" She smiled and nodded,

*•*•*•*•*

The letters arrived suddenly, but Harry never got letters. Delilah tried to help him get them, but nothing worked.

To avoid the letters, Vernon took them to a hotel. But the letters followed.

He then took them to a little cabin in the middle of some part of the sea, whilst a storm was raging.

"Hey Haz..." Delilah smiled coming to sit next to Harry, holding his gift in her hands. It was only a few minutes until his eleventh birthday.

"Hey Del" he replied, looking over at her,

"It's a few minutes early... but happy birthday!" He laughed and smiled and took the gift from her, opening it to reveal a copy of the Hobbit.

"Thanks, Del, I don't know what I'd do without you..." The clock struck midnight.

"Officially happy birth-"

BOOM.

She jumped in shock as there was a loud bang on the front door of the cabin. Vernon came downstairs with a rifle in hand and Harry put his arm in front of her protectively.

SMASH.

The door broke down to reveal a man who seemed more like a giant squeezing in, he had a frizzy black beard that was incredibly messy and his clothes were rather battered. Delilah stared shocked as she sat behind Harry,

The giant sat on the sofa and asked for tea before turning to look at Harry,

"Ah there yer are! Las' time I saw you, you was a baby!" He smiled broadly, "yer look just like yer dad... but yer have yer mums eyes" he then looked Delilah, "yer must be... Delilah?" She nodded, "yer look just like yer aunt Lily ye know, Harry's mum" both Harry and Delilah looked shocked at confused at the revelations.

"Leave!" Vernon shouted, Delilah still remained behind Harry.

"Shut up Dursley! Ye prune!" The giant shouted and bent the rifle into a knot before rummaging around in a bag, "anyway, Harry... I have something for yeh" he handed him a box and Delilah looked over Harry's shoulder to see what it was, it was a chocolate cake with green icing that read,

'Happy Birthday Harry'

"Who are you?" Harry asked,

"Rubeus Hagrid. Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts"

Delilah stared back at him confused, several questions ensued and Hagrid grew angry at her parents until...

"Yer a wizard Harry"

Hagrid began to explain what Hogwarts was. A school for wizards and witches, and about how Harry was famous. Because he did what no one else had done. Survived the killing curse. His parents had been killed by some evil wizard named Voldemort.

Hagrid fired some spell at Dudley and gave him a pig's tail when Vernon insulted some man called Dumbledore. Apparently he was the headmaster.

That night, as everyone else slept, Delilah and Harry lay awake talking to each other.

"I'm a wizard..." he said slowly, voice shaking with disbelief.

"Yeah... it seems you are" she smiled softly, she was happy for Harry but didn't want him to go away.

"I'll write all the time... if I go that is..." she shook her head,

"You're going... there's no question about that!" Harry smiled back at her, looking over at Hagrid slightly.

"Can you pinch me?" Her eyes widened in confusion, "I think I'm dreaming..." she shook her head,

"You're not dreaming... you're actually a wizard... and you're going to a magic school" he laughed and nodded,

"I can't believe it..."

*•*•*•*

The next day, Delilah went with Harry and Hagrid to get his stuff for school. Harry had refused to go without her and Hagrid didn't seem to mind. Before they left, an owl arrived to deliver a letter and Harry paid him in something called 'knuts'.

As they boarded the train to London, countless people's eyes remained on them, well more on Hagrid. As they glanced at Harry's school list, her eyes widened in slight confusion but Harry spoke up first,

"Can we really get all this in London?" Harry asked,

"If yeh know where to look" Hagrid smiled at them,

Once they reached London, they walked down several streets until they reached a pub. A shamble of a pub, it looked in slight disarray and the people walking past didn't pay it any notice. Hagrid said it was famous, but Delilah wasn't sure.

When they entered, the pub was fairly empty, a few old ladies were in the corner with glasses of sherry and several other people were dotted around. Delilah grabbed onto Harry's hand. The low mull of chatter all ceased when they entered, and the barman (Hagrid called him Tom), greeted them.

"Ah can't Tom, on Hogwarts business!" Hagrid thumped Harry's shoulder which caused him to stumble slightly,

"Good lord... is that.." Tom started,

"Harry Potter!" someone shouted, rushing over. All the inhabitants began rushing over and introducing themselves to Harry, shaking his hand and thanking him. One of Harry's hands remained clutched on Delilah's, and several of the parishioners of the pub were also staring at her, trying to work out who she was. She didn't really like that.

A stuttering man then came over, apparently he'd be teaching Harry something called 'Defence Against the Dark Arts'. His name was Professor Quirrell.

Hagrid then led them through to a small deserted courtyard and told them about Quirell's run-in with Vampires in some forest. Delilah found that she was learning a lot about the world since Hagrid showed up.

Hagrid then tapped on a random brick with his umbrella and the wall began to shake and it opened to reveal a crowded street. It had cobblestone floors and twists and turns galore, it felt magical. Delilah felt a smile form on her face and her mouth drop, Harry had much the same expression and Hagrid just smiled at them.

They were then led to the bank so Harry could get money, Gringotts. There were goblins on the doors, opening them for them as they entered a huge marble hall with high ceilings. Hagrid spoke to the goblin on the front desk about going to Harry's vault and then something secret in vault seven hundred and thirteen.

Griphook, a goblin with annoyed expression, led them into a cart and rushed along a twisting and turning track, it reminded Delilah of roller coasters.

They reached Harry's vault and he led her inside, there were mountains of gold inside. Both their eyes widened in shock, Harry gathered handfuls of the money before they boarded the cart again. They stopped at the door Hagrid requested and he went into the vault, returning with a small brown paper package. He wouldn't tell them what it was.

Hagrid then went to the pub and sent Harry and Delilah to get Harry's school robes, the shop was called Madam Malkin's.

As they entered, a short woman approached them,

"Hogwarts? Both of you?"

"Oh-just me" Harry said, she nodded and began to lead them toward the back,

"Sister came along too, hm?" Madam Malkin smiled, Delilah was about to speak but Harry just nodded,

"Yeah"

She led them through to the back of the shop where a boy with platinum blonde hair and pale skin was having his robes fitted, he turned to look at them. He had greyish eyes and a slightly pointed face.

"Hogwarts too?" He asked them, a hint of a smile on his face. Harry nodded as he stepped forward, Delilah hung back awkwardly. "What about you? Too young?" She nodded slightly, "you two don't talk much? Do you?"

The boy started rattling on about many things Delilah couldn't understand including Quidditch, a Hufflepuff? And much more. He also said how people from muggle family's shouldn't be let into Hogwarts. Muggles were non-magical people, like her family. But, she wasn't going to Hogwarts, so it didn't matter.

She thought the boy was rather annoying, but there was something oddly charming about him, she didn't dare dwell on it.

Hagrid told them to ignore everything he said, as well as answering questions.

Quidditch was a magical sport, played on brooms.

Hufflepuff was one of the four houses. Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin and Ravenclaw.

They collected the rest of Harry's school supplies until it was only a wand left. But before they got the wand, Hagrid bought Harry a snowy white owl for a gift. She was beautiful.

They entered the wand shop. Ollivanders.

The man instantly recognised Harry and began telling him about his parent's wands.

"And my-I didn't know there was another Potter child...you're the spitting image of your mother..."

"Oh- she's my aunt actually..." Delilah said softly, Ollivander nodded,

"Well, still the spitting image of her you are" he looked between them both, "are you both looking for wands?"

"Ah only 'Arry. Miss Delilah here is too young, she'll be back soon though, I'm sure of it" Hagrid smiled at her, she looked slightly confused. She wasn't a witch. She was a muggle.

Harry tried several wands and caused much damage before Ollivander told him he'd found the right one, it sent fireworks around the room. But then he said something else. Something that made Delilah's blood run cold. Voldemorts wand had shared the same core as Harry's. The same Phoenix had given feathers for it. She didn't quite know how to make sense of it, but she didn't like it at all.

The rest of the summer was quiet, Delilah was able to spend all of it with Harry without her parents and brother interrupting. They read the books Harry had got for the school year, well Delilah read them whilst Harry skimmed them, and had fun.

Before she knew it, Harry was due to leave for Hogwarts. Whilst her parents took Dudley to the hospital, she went with Harry to the station.

"So where is Platform 9 and 3/4?" She asked, looking around confused as Harry pushed his trunk in front of him.

"I don't know...." He sighed, suddenly a plump red head woman talking about muggles walked past them with several children. Hurriedly, they followed her.

She explained how to get onto the platform, run at the wall.

Harry ran first before the woman turned to look at her,

"Come on dear, you want to say goodbye to your brother, yes?" She nodded and the woman offered her her hand, which Delilah strangely took as she walked her and a red head girl who looked her age onto the platform.

A glistening scarlet train bursting out steam stood before them, the words Hogwarts express on the front. The platform was packed but Delilah could see Harry so she rushed over to him and hugged him tight,

"Please write" she said sadly, Harry nodded and held her close.

"Promise I will Del" she didn't want to let go, Harry was holding her tightly too, "I love you Del"

"I love you too Haz" and with that, he was boarding the train and she was walking back onto the platform watching it leave, trying to not cry. The only person who kept her sane in her house was gone.

As the train pulled out, the mother and daughter from earlier approached her.

"Oh, are you alright dear?" The woman asked, she nodded slightly,

"Yeah... I'm okay..." the girl looked at her,

"Are you really Harry Potter's sister?" She asked, she had fiery red hair and big brown eyes. Her mother looked at her sternly,

"Ginevra!"

"No.... I'm not. I'm his cousin..." she answered, the girl seemed equally as excited by this,

"Oh wow! What's he like? Is he super powerful? How did he kill you-know-who? And how-"

"Ginevra!" The girls mother interrupted again, "that is quite enough questions. You're probably scaring the poor girl..." the girls eyes widened,

"Oh sorry. I'm Ginny. Ginny Weasley"

"Delilah Dursley"

"It's nice to meet you!" Ginny smiled and Delilah found herself smiling back,

"I'm Molly dear" Mrs Weasley smiled at her, "now where are your parents dear?"

"At the hospital with my brother... they don't like the whole magic thing" Ginny looked horrified at this, whereas Mrs Weasley sighed.

"That's unfortunate dear...which hospital is it? I do not think you should be walking through London alone"

And so Mrs Weasley escorted her to the hospital, Delilah and Ginny chatted the whole way. They were quickly becoming friends, she gave Ginny her address so Ginny could write. Although, she was sure her parents would be upset by the fact two owls would now be visiting the house.

Once she reached the hospital, she hugged Ginny goodbye and thanked Mrs Weasley before heading inside and bracing herself for the year ahead.
