Chapter 19

Back in the real world

"I'm going to make supper everyone, any special requests?" Jin gets off the couch and stretches, looking at everyone on their phones or watching the movie in front of them.

"Bulgogi with kimchi." Someone's voice rings from the group. Hums of agreement are heard before Jin simply nods his head before walking into the kitchen. Rolling up his sleeves, he starts preparing the beef, patting it dry before chopping it up and putting it into a frying pan. He quickly starts some rice in a pot, then gets to work on a sauce for the beef.

'I should ask Soobin what he wants.' Jin runs his tongue along his lips as he pours the sauce in with the meat, mixing everything together before letting it simmer on low heat. As he cleans off his hands, he makes his way to Soobin's room. Knocking softly, he wonders if the boy is still napping.

Carefully opening the door, he walks in and sees the boy's bed empty. Jin frowns, wondering if he made his way to the living room. Walking out of the room and to the others, he scans the area for the boy.

"What's wrong hyung?" Jungkook asks, looking at the eldest who sports a confused frown on his face.

"I was going to ask Soobin what he wanted, but he's not in his room." Jin places his hands on his hips.

"He's not?" Taehyun looks up from his phone, Beomgyu following suite. Jin shakes his head again.

"He told me he's going out to the store." Yoongi walks out, rubbing his eyes as his body is slumped, walking lazily over to an empty chair in the living room.

"Oh really?" Namjoon raises a brow.

"I didn't even hear the door open." Hoseok looks to the others.

"I didn't even see him come out either." Yeonjun mumbles to himself.

"Maybe he went through the kitchen before leaving." Yoongi shrugs, brain not ready to process the situation.

"Well if he did go out, he'll be home soon." Taehyung shrugs, hoping the boy brings back more Oreos like last time. Everyone nods their heads, dismissing the absent boy, going back to their phones or the movie playing.

Jin enters the kitchen again, mixing in Kimchi to the bulgogi and tasting it. Nodding in approval, he takes the lid off the rice cooker and starts mixing it around to loosen up the rice bits. Grabbing 12 bowls, he sets them on the table along with the rice and bulgogi. Placing a glass at each sitting place, he looks to the table with a grin.

"Alright everyone, dinner is ready!" Jin calls, taking a serving for Soobin and placing it in the microwave like he promised. Everyone piles into the dining room one by one, everyone taking a seat at the table and getting excited for the dinner in front of them.

"Thank you for the food." They chime together as Jin takes his seat, everyone starting to serve themselves.

"I wonder what Soobin needs if he's out this long." Kai wonders aloud as he takes a mouthful of rice.

"Maybe a gift for someone? Or just wanted to go for a walk?" Beomgyu shrugs, looking to his friend.

"I think he said he's going to a library." Yoongi chimes in, catching the attention of Namjoon.

"Oh? Do you know which one?" Namjoon asks, straightening his back.

"No, he just said 'it's something like that', or something along those lines." Yoongi yawns.

"Maybe like a book cafe?" Jimin suggests, getting nods in return. Namjoon looks to Jin who looks confused. Everyone drops the subject there for a while as they eat.

"Hey Namjoon?" Taehyun asks softly. The winged boy looks up from his bowl, noticing the boy biting his lip. He immediately feels the nervousness radiate off him.

"Take you time Taehyun." Namjoon smiles. Taehyun nods before taking a deep breath and speaking. "Why aren't we allowed to go to the demon realm? I know it's dangerous but they really might have the answers we don't here."

Everyone becomes silent, waiting for the answer of the winged leader. Namjoon leans back in his chair, looking towards Jin and Jungkook who have grumpy looks on their faces.

"It's just a bad place we don't want to associate ourselves with. Bad things live down there, we can't protect you all from." Namjoon puts it simply.

"But what about those guys Soobin were with? They might know something right?" Beomgyu pipes up.

"How do you know about them?" Namjoon asks, not recalling the time of telling them. Beomgyu looks towards Yoongi with a guilty stare.

"He wouldn't stop bugging me." Yoongi defends, putting his hands up in surrender. Namjoon simply lets out a long groan.

"As much as they may be able to help, we're perfectly fine searching up here. I'm sure there's something we haven't already tried." Namjoon hopes the conversation ends there.

"But we never know if we don't try. There's two worlds with different history right? Why not just ask them." Kai now joins in intrigued.

"We are not asking those pests." Jungkook growls, getting a nervous look from Beomgyu, not wanting another incident like that one day in the video game room.

"But why not?" Taehyun pouts, not liking all these 'no' answers thrown in his face.

"Because I said so." Namjoon announces louder, making everyone flinch in their seats. The atmosphere tenses as everyone looks to their bowls like they're being scolded. The horned boys are the first to leave, Yeonjun following the younger ones to make sure they're okay after not saying anything.

"Joonie you're a little harsh." Jimin sighs, placing his hand on top of the leader's. Namjoon lets out an aggravated sigh before getting up and clearing his place.

"I have homework to do, goodnight." He announces before leaving in a huff.

"Well this could've gone better." Taehyung huffs out, Hoseok nodding in agreement before the two clear their spots and leave to do their own homework. As Jimin and Jungkook help Jin clean up, Yoongi is left sitting in his seat, focusing.

"What are you doing hyung?" Jungkook asks, noticing Yoongi zoned out.

"Listening."

"To what exactly." Jungkook chuckles.

"Nothing, I'm going for a fly." Yoongi huffs, leaving his bowl on the table as he walks to the living room, opening the sliding door and closing it before jumping off the balcony. Jin, Jimin and Jungkook finish cleaning up in the kitchen, clearing Yoongi's place before going to their rooms to finish off their homework.

Meanwhile in Beomgyu and Taehyun's room, the horned boys are sitting on the beds whispering to each other.

"I just don't understand him! It's a simple trip down there right?" Taehyun groans, running a hand through his hair.

"Well it is a different world full of people eating demons." Yeonjun shrugs.

"I don't like it when he yells." Kai pouts, slumping forwards. Beomgyu who is sitting next to him rubs his back soothingly.

"I bet you they're hiding something." Beomgyu tsks out, glaring at the door for a second before looking back to his friends.

"I mean, we don't even know what Jin and Jungkook's powers are." Taehyun points out.

"Yeah we never went to the demon realm to see them fight off those other guys."

"I just know they like blood or something." Beomgyu shrugs, recalling the incident when Soobin cut his hand and Jungkook went coo-coo.

"If Namjoon won't take us, we need to find out a way to get there." Taehyun announces, determined.

"We can ask Soobin when he gets back!" Kai exclaims excitedly.

"Alright, for now just do your homework, we still have school tomorrow." Yeonjun calms them down. The young boys nod, walking off to their rooms and doing their homework.

As for Yoongi on his flight, he's been flying over the city, trying to tap into Soobin's thoughts. Though the male is extremely confused considering he's been around the city twice and hasn't been hit with the obnoxious thoughts of the younger. He's flown to every Library, trying to hear something, he's been to every book cafe and corner store, trying to just find something to do with the boy.

"Where the hell are you kid?" He grumbles to himself, flying straight up to scope the whole city, closing his eyes and really focusing. Absolutely nothing. He lets out a sigh, wondering if he's overthinking this too much.

"I should head home, the sun is setting now." Yoongi sighs, rubbing his face as he feels his wings starting to get tired. Upon arriving home, he heads to his room where he sees Kai doing his homework.

"Oh hey, where were you?" Kai asks, turning away from his papers.

"Just went for a fly over the city." Yoongi shrugs, sitting at his own desk, pulling out his work.

"That's so cool, I wish I could fly." Kai smiles silently towards the floor. Yoongi raises a brow before tending to his work.

. . .

Everyone tired themselves so much doing their homework that they fell asleep at their desks, forgetting all about the absent boy.

It's around 4, almost 5 in the morning when Yoongi is awoken by a scream. But it was so faint, so quiet he thought it was in his dream. He groans after looking at the time, deciding to grab a small snack or something. Slipping out of bed, he stumbles his way down the hall, surprised to find the light already on. Rounding the corner, he sees Beomgyu mumbling to himself as he paces back and forth, holding a piece of paper in his hand.

"Beomgyu?" Yoongi asks, "What are you doing awake?" The horned boy jumps, looking at the tired boy in front of him, still in his clothes from the previous hours like him.

"I-I d-d-don't know how- I d-didn't know he-" Beomgyu starts stuttering like crazy, surprising the elder.

"What's in your hand?" Yoongi frowns, looking at the piece of paper the boy is gripping onto. Beomgyu stops his walking pacing before handing the paper to the elder. Yoongi frowns before looking at it, noticing it's a letter.

Beomgyu,

I know this is all of a sudden but I need to do this. I'm doing this for us, for me. I need to know how to help us all, and the research here isn't going to be enough. I'm going to the demon realm again. I know how to get there so I'm taking the risk. Don't worry, I'll be safe with the friends I made last time, I trust them. I'm going to find a way to help us. I'll be back soon, don't worry. And maybe not tell the others please, it's better if they don't come barging in again and knocking me out. Please don't worry B, I'll be safe.

<3 Binnie

Yoongi's eyes widen as he reads the letter, finally understanding why he couldn't find the younger's thoughts when he went flying. Just as Yoongi opens his mouth, a door slams open. He looks down the hall to see Jimin standing there with a piece of paper in his hand as well.

"Jimin." Jimin looks up to see Yoongi standing there, Beomgyu behind him. Jimin runs down the hall, stopping in front of them before running to the cabinet. He flings it open, noticing how the mochis are gone. Running over to the flowers, he notices some pollen plucked and still dusting the counter top.

"He's gone." Jimin whispers.

"What?"

"Soobin is gone." Jimin says louder, making Yoongi and Beomgyu's stomachs drop at the confirmation. Suddenly, another door slams open, startling the boys in the kitchen. Heavy, quickly paced footsteps make their way down the hall before, low and behold, Namjoon standing there in a tired daze.

"What's going on? Is someone hurt?" He asks, noticing the three of them looking like they've seen a ghost.

"No one is hurt, but they might be." Yoongi answers simply. This certainly wakes Namjoon up as the elder straightens his back, the word 'tired' no longer in his vocabulary.

"Excuse me?" His voice deeps, if even possible.

"Take a look." Yoongi hands Namjoon the note given to Beomgyu. Then the note given to Jimin.

Jimin hyung,

I know this is the last thing you want to hear or think about right now but I've left. I need to find out what's going on with my friends and I. You all know about your powers, you have history and books here for your kind. Me and the others however, I feel like we're cursed or something. As the one they look up to most, I need to find an answer, and it's not in this world. By the time you get this letter, it'll be too late to stop me, I'm already in the demon realm. I'm safe with Taeyong, Mark and the other I promise! They would never hurt me, and they never did the last time.. except for Yuta.. kind of. That's not the point.

The point is, I need to help my friends, my brothers. I'm not coming back until I find something, and I don't know how long that will take. Please keep this to yourself for as long as you can, I don't want another incident like last time. I beg you Jimin, please let me do this. You know how important family is, these boys are all I have. Don't worry about my health, I've taken the mochis and some pollen in case. I'm hoping to be back before they run out. I'm sorry.

<3 Soobin

Namjoon re-reads both letters multiple times, anger, confusion and understanding mixing him up. He looks up the boys and lets out a loud groan.

"I swear to god this fucking kid!" Namjoon yells, startling the boys in front of him. Some more doors creak open, the others exiting their rooms in a tired daze, cracking their backs and necks from the awkward positions they've been sleeping in.

"What's going on?" Jungkook yawns, grabbing Taehyun's arm as the horned boy almost trips.

"Who's swearing this early?" Jin grumbles, looking at Namjoon.

"Why is everyone awake?" Taehyung whines, walking right over to Jimin and laying his head on the elder's shoulder.

"Soobin is gone." Namjoon announces in a sigh. The sleepy boys frown confused before the letters are passed around. Jin however, reads the letter for Jimin and drops it, looking up at Namjoon. He runs back to his and Jungkook's shared room, Namjoon following suite. As the leader stops at the doorway, he sees Jin scanning through his bookshelf.

"Fuck!" Jin curses loudly, getting the attention of the whole dorm.

"Wow he swore." Beomgyu gasps, getting slapped by Yoongi.

"What did he take?" Namjoon asks, entering the room.

"He took the bestiary." Jin announces, Namjoon's turn to have his stomach drop.

"What's wrong with taking the bestiary?" Yeonjun asks, crossing his arms.

"That book holds all kinds of creatures roaming the streets up here. It has our kind included." Hoseok answers, Jin nodding.

"So why is it so important?" Taehyun asks, still not understanding.

"It has all of our strengths, what make us the alpha creature up in this world." Yoongi explains.

"You're the alpha creatures??" Kai exclaims, loving the cool new fact. He's living with the alpha race!

"If it has all your strengths, then it has all your weaknesses too, right?" Yeonjun pipes in, realizing the situation.

"Not only that. If those greedy demons read through our bestiary, they'll be able to wipe out our whole species with a single spell." Jin looks to everyone, the horned boy's hearts stuttering.

. . .
