Chapter 16
You know that feeling when you want something so back, and there's a 99.9% chance you could have it? You're so excited to get it, getting your hopes up to the sky, to finally claim it as your own, to finally stop having to worry about it slipping away? Best feeling ever, right?
But there's always that 00.01% chance that falls upon you, crushing your excitement, crushing your soul? Yeah, that sucks too. That's how Soobin feels as he hears the words of the floating girl with a book of every living residence in the village.
"I'm sorry, but your name doesn't seem to be here." The girls sighs, her pink ponytail swaying in the wind. Jimin expected nothing more than that exact response, saying the words along with her in his head. He knew not to get his hopes up, allowing Soobin to be proven wrong, and he was. The younger had to a learn a lesson that not everything can happen if you hope enough.
"Come on Soobin, let's go." Jimin shrugs, just about turning around before the younger grabs his arm and stops him.
"Check again." Soobin demands, not giving up. "Please." He adds in for an extra chance. The girl sighs, flipping through her book, Soobin's eyes staring heavily at every page that passes by. Again, the same result, now irritating Jimin a little.
"Soobin please let's just go." The winged boy slips his arm out of Soobin's hold, ready to grab the younger and fly them away.
"One more try, please." Soobin pleads desperately. Jimin is about to say something before the girl gives him a soft smile and skims through the pages once more.
"I'm sorry darling, but he's not in here. I can check for your name if you'd like." She gives them a sympathetic smile.
"My name wouldn't be in there. You know what, let me see that book of yours." Soobin tsks, snatching the book quickly and skimming his eyes over the pages she always lands on. Jimin stands beside the pink haired girl, apologizing profusely with his eyes, getting another sympathetic look from the girl. Soobin is just about to turn a page when it feels thicker than the others.
"What the.." He frowns, grabbing the page and inspecting it. "The page is stuck to another one." He exclaims, holding the book on his thigh before peeling the pages apart.
"What is this?" Soobin asks, looking at the odd, green, sticky thing keeping the pages together.
"Elf syrup." Jimin and the girl sigh together, getting a good look at the substance. "It's a brand of syrup made by the elves that visit every month. They take the book to inspect and cross out, or add names to the book." The girl explains, taking the book back and looking at the two new pages.
"Park Jimin? Yep, you're in here. It seems your parents returned around 3 months ago." She smiles. Soobin fist bumps the air in accomplishment as Jimin stares surprised and dumbfounded at the pair, jaw dropped.
"Come on, let's go get some lunch before we see your parents!" Soobin exclaims excitedly, grabbing Jimin's hand before stumbling through the silver gates. Jimin quickly snaps out of his daze as he hears Soobin seethe, looking down at his foot which is still unfortunately hurt. Jimin quickly stands in front of Soobin, motioning for the younger to jump on his back. Soobin follows the silent orders, hopping on his back and being carried to one of Jimin's favorite childhood restaurants. As they walk through the village though, Soobin can't help but admire the beauty up close. The amount of vibrant colors, being contrasted by the dark wood of the buildings. Everything is utterly gorgeous, Soobin could never get sick of the view. They pass the flower shop he saw up on the hill, and more kids come running out chasing a soccer ball in the air.
" We're here." Jimin announces, opening the door and slipping inside the cozy hut. Soobin gets an immediate 'winter hut, family christmas dinner' kind of vibe once he's set down.
"Hello there! Table for two?" A boy with fiery red hair bounces over, a big smile on his face.
"Yes please." Jimin smiles, helping Soobin follow the boy over to their small booth.
"I'll be your waiter today, my name is Yangin, can I start you off with any drinks?" The boys asks, a big smile on his face.
"Just water for me." Jimin nods his head.
"Shirley temple for me!" Soobin exclaims, the waiter chuckling at the younger's behavior.
"Alright, I'll be right out with those." He smiles, walking off with a bounce in his steps. Jimin turns to look at Soobin who has a satisfied grin on his face as he looks at all the decorations on the wall.
"How are you so amazing?" Jimin asks, catching the younger's attention.
"What do you mean?" He asks, now looking towards Jimin.
"I mean... you didn't give up until we found my name. Did you feel something? Did you know my parents were here?" Jimin asks, a little dumbfounded.
"Of course I didn't know your parents were here. I just wanted to see the place, and I really wanted you to see your parents again. I guess if I wanted it enough, it came to me." Soobin shrugs, not sure how to explain his thoughts. Jimin just lets out an exasperated sigh before Yangin comes back with the drinks.
"Alright, ready to order?" The fiery boys asks, big grin still plastered on his face. The two friends place their orders, and once again, Yangin walks away with a bounce.
"So what are your parents like?" Soobin asks curiously, sipping on his Shirley temple. A soft smile appears on Jimin's face before he speaks.
"Well my mom usually stayed home to cook and tend to our garden. She loved chatting with the neighbors, and having competitions with Mr.Flinn to see who has the prettier garden. Of course it was my mother, Mr.Flinn would never admit it though. My father however would work the usual 9-5 at the bakery. He always came home smelling like fresh cookies and would have the occasional dust of flour or accidental sprinkle or two in his hair. They were always so happy." Jimin has such a soft grin on his face as he look at the table, remembering his parents.
"Wow, they sound like they're right out of a fairy tale." Soobin chuckles lightly.
"Yeah no kidding." Jimin chuckles. Before they know it, Yangin has arrived once more with their food. Just as Soobin gets his food first, Jimin quickly steals a fry.
"Park Jimin!" Soobin gasps with a silly face. Jimin looks to the side, an evil grin on his face as he chews the fry.
"Wait, you're the Park Jimin?" Yangin asks, placing Jimin's food in front of him.
"Uh.. yes?" Jimin raises a brow, confused as to how this stranger knows him.
"I'm sorry, but I absolutely love your voice!!" Yangin squeals, an enormous smile on his face.
"Wait, you sing?" Soobin questions, looking at a blushing Jimin. The elder nods before turning to Yangin.
"Thank you. I'm assuming you've heard the recent song." Jimin chuckles nervously at the fanboy in front of him.
"Are you kidding me? OF COURSE!! The minute I found out it was being released soon, I set every alarm I could!" Yangin laughs, his body looking like it might explode into confetti.
"Would you like an autograph?" Soobin quickly asks, making both of their jaws drop.
"YES!!' Yangin squeaks, his red fiery hair, literally bursting in flames, a literal fire upon his head.
"Wait this makes sense, you're name is Yangin, that's Turkish for fire!" Soobin quickly racks his brain for the information he read the other day.
"Yeah that's right!" The excited boy giggles as he watches Jimin sign a song cover Yangin just so happens to have on him. "Thank you so much!" The boy bows at 90 degrees, surprising Jimin even more.
"No problem" Jimin softly laughs, watching Yangin literally bounce away this time. Soobin turns to Jimin, a smirk on his face.
"You never told me you sing." His tone teasing.
"Oh my god please no, don't start." Jimin cries, placing his head on the table next to his food.
"I won't," Soobin shrugs, picking up a fry. Jimin lifts his head up to take a sip of his water. "Just yet at least." Soobin says again before popping the fry in his mouth, making Jimin choke on his water.
. . .
"Go on, I didn't almost embarrass myself for nothing." Soobin motions for Jimin to knock on his parent's door for the hundredth time as they stand aimlessly on the doorstep. Jimin takes a deep breathe for the nth time and finally knocks three times on the door. They wait a few moments, no movement heard inside, Jimin doesn't even want to use his super hearing.
"Hello there, can I help you?" Someone says behind them. Soobin is the first to turn around, seeing a man in brown work pants, a worn out pale pink dress shirt and a black apron tied around his waist. Black hat being held in his flour covered hands. Soobin's eyes quickly look to the man's ruffled brown hair, seeing a few sprinkles.
"Mr.Park?" Soobin asks.
"Yes I am, how can I help you?" He asks with a smile. Jimin now decides to turn around, looking at his father.
"Hi dad." Jimin smiles.
"Oh! Jimin my boy!" His father laughs, happy to see his son after so long. He makes his way over to his son, quickly enveloping him in a hug. Jimin melts in the man's hug, remembering his childhood as he smells those familiar fresh cookies. "How have you been?" His dad asks, unlocking the door and inviting them in.
"Busy like usual, but pretty good. How about you and mom?" Jimin asks, leading Soobin to the living
"Good good, we came home around 3 months ago. Don't get me wrong my boy, we wanted to contact you right away, but my work got in the way and your mother got a call saying her garden won a contest so she traveled to Paris for a month. By the time she got back and everything settled down, it was close to your school's usual exam time, so we knew you'd be hard at work. As for now, we knew you would want to relax with your friends. I'm sorry we didn't contact you son." Jimin's father explains, softly grasping Jimin's hands in his, a guilty look on his face.
"Don't worry papa, I knew you had your reasons. I'm just glad you're home and safe, but where's mom?" Jimin smiles.
"Ah, your mother must be at Mrs.Yao's flower shop with her granddaughter. She's been helping out recently because Mrs.Yao is getting fairly aged now a days." Jimin's father explains, walking into the kitchen to get some tea, bringing back a few biscuits as well.
"Thank you." Soobin smiles, eagerly snatching a cookie and munching it down with a satisfied grin.
"Please, tell me about yourself, who are you?" Mr.Park gives Soobin a warm smile, making the horned boy feel like a child again, a warm feeling entering his chest.
"I'm Choi Soobin, my friends and I recently transferred to the same school as your son." Soobin starts, nervously pointing at the horns on his head, making Mr.Park nod his head in understanding. "My friends and I are actually roommates with Jimin and his friends. They've treated us so nicely, I know now where Jimin gets his manners from." Soobin chuckles when Jimin blushes quietly next to him.
"Fascinating, may I asked what happened to your foot?" Mr.Park points to Soobin's bandages peeking through his jeans.
"Oh, long story short I fell off a table and sprained it. Jimin's been carrying me or helping me about today." Soobin smiles, silently thanking his winged friend with his eyes.
"Ah, lucky for you, I have just the potion for that." Mr.Park snaps his fingers, walking into a different room. Soobin looks curiously at Jimin who giggles.
"My father isn't just a baker. He's also a master with potions. He adds the potions to his baking, making very special sweets. Cookies to boost your immune system, cupcakes that help you think faster, brownies that can give you speed, lollipops that make you invisible, and so much more." Jimin explains with a proud smirk on his face.
"My mother is also very special. Each flower in her garden has a special power. All their pollen is a different spell. Tulips hold love spells, daisy for purity, which also helps with health, calla lillies for beauty spells, alstroemeria for wealth, you name it my mother has it." Jimin now cocks his head to the side with a smirk evident on his face.
'Damn.' Soobin thinks, looking at how hot Jimin looks. 'Wait what?'
"Honey I'm home!" A woman's soft voice chimes as the door opens and closes with a click. She enters the living room, digging through her purse before looking up.
"Oh my baby boy! How are you Jiminie!?" She squeals, dropping her purse and running over to hug her son, smothering him in front of guests. Does she care? No, she missed her baby.
"I'm fine mom, how are you?" Jimin laughs, a blush appearing on his cheeks once more.
"Fabulous, how else would you think I'm doing? I finally proved to that Mr.Flinn that my garden is the best by winning a competition in Paris." Mrs.Park gracefully flips her long curly brown hair behind her shoulder. Soobin takes a minute to take in her appearance. A dark green sundress is matches with a pair on black high heels, a pair of darker green sunglasses sitting upon her head. The lady's makeup done to absolute perfection as she matches her amazingly bright green eyes with glittering pink eye shadow and a simply gloss on her plump lips. Finally, a white scarf lays on her arms, wrapping behind her back.
"Of course you're doing well, how could I even ask?" Jimin giggles as his mother spots Soobin.
"Hello there, who are you?" She smiles, confidence absolutely radiating off of her, dare he say power?
"This is Jimin's friend Choi Soobin. He's also our son's roommate." Mr.Park enters the room again, carrying a small bag of mochis.
"Well hello there, I'm assuming you also know Jimin's roommates then? Lovley boys aren't they, darling when can we see them again?" His mother sighs with a grin.
"Soon now that I know you're back." Jimin reassures his mother.
"Here you are son, take one a day and in a week's time your foot should be all better." Mr.Park hands Soobin the bag of mochis.
"Oh, what this for?" Mrs.Park asks, looking to her husband.
"His foor is sprained, so I thought I'd give him some help." The man smiles.
"Ah, then I shall as well." Mrs.Park smiles picking up her purse and grabbing two calla lillies. "Jimin can help you, but when the time comes just pick some pollen and sprinkle it upon the mochi and it should speed up the process." The lady smiles.
"Thank you both so much." Soobin smiles, taking the flowers as well and bowing his head.
"Not a problem, you are a friend of our son's after all." Mrs.Park smiles.
"I'm sorry we can't stay any longer, but we should be getting back for supper. Our roommates will be home soon." Jimin sighs, looking at the time.
"Not a problem son, come back whenever. Surprise visits are always better when they're least expected." Mr.Park grins, pulling his son into a hug and patting him on the back. His mother then gives him a softer hug, as well as Soobin.
"It was nice meeting you." Soobin smiles to both parents who wave them goodbye. Jimin and Soobin trudge through the village and back to the gates where the same girl still sits, reading a different book.
"Hope you enjoyed your visit, come back any time!" She calls. The two wave a thanks before Soobin hops back onto Jimin's back. As they calmly soar through the air, Soobin speaks.
"It was nice meeting your parents. I feel like I know a lot more about you now." The younger smiles, looking at the grass and hills pass below them.
"No kidding. Thank you Soobin, if it weren't for your persistence, I wouldn't even know if they were back. Let alone doing that well. Looks like I don't need to worry as much anymore." The winged boy chuckles, feeling Soobin lay his head on the back of his shoulder.
"No problem, just wanted to help out a friend." Soobin smiles, seeing the school appear in the distance. The fly home is quiet and peaceful. Jimin flies around the school to their dorm's balcony, landing gracefully on it. Soobin slides off, Jimin opening the door as the two walk in.
Just as they sit on the couch, their roudy group of roommates enter the dorm.
"Hey!!!" Hoseok screams with Kai, laughing as they tumble in.
"Oh my god guys please shut up!" Yoongi groans, falling face first onto the floor in front of the couch Jimin and Soobin sit on.
"I second that." Yeonjun groans, falling next to Yoongi.
"Jin, you're making supper soon right?" Taehyung asks, immediately flying up to the roof and floating upside down.
"Yeah yeah I am." Jin sighs, waving his hand and walking to the Kitchen, dropping his bag right away.
"Video games?" Beomgyu asks Jungkook and Taehyun who quickly nod their heads. Namjoon walks to the living room, sitting in a chair and looking at Jimin and Soobin who are smiling, watching everyone enter the room.
"How was your guys's day?" He asks with a smile.
"Really good." Jimin smiles, looking at Soobin.
"Yeah, really good." Soobin smiles back, feeling so much closer to his hyung now.
"Stop looking like a couple, it's making me sick." Yoongi groans, pretending to barf before face planting back into the floor, making the rest of the room laugh.
