Haya.
"I am sorry but this old hag doctor does not know what she is doing. It's been three months, why am I not pregnant yet?"
She asked, frowning at the phone as she was on a video call with Aaliyah. Her friend let out a sigh, because Haya had been really frustrated about not being able to conceive. It had literally been three months but Haya wasn't the kind of person to be patient.
"You know how much amir and I have been fucking? Like all the fucking time."
Aaliyah stifled a laugh as Haya continued.
"He had to go to Germany this morning, you know what I did? I asked him to sneak in a quickie first. It's so stupid, Aaliyah!" She rolled her eyes, watching as her friend gave her a grin.
"Have I mentioned how grateful I am for these little things?" She pointed towards her air pods, chuckling because Haya had no filter and she was around people right now.
The Queen and her assistant were both present in the same room. Haya just didn't know that yet.
"Haya, you're obsessed at this point. These things take time." She tried to tell her friend but she knew that Haya was an inpatient soul.
If she wanted something, she definitely wanted it. She had hardly ever waited in her life. Whatever she desired, she got. Even love. It hadn't taken much time for Amir to fall in love with her after all.
"No, they don't. There are only taking time with me and it is pissing me off." Haya grumbled in response, Aaliyah couldn't believe she was so upset about something that only happened with time and patience.
"First of all, you have to stop making it feel like it's a job. You used to enjoy all of this and now you keep on talking about it as if it's your responsibility." She added, and Haya let out a sigh.
Amir had said the same words to her before departing this morning. She didn't even play around like before, it was getting exhausting. He let her be this way because he knew she was impatient and frustrated right now. Although, it was getting too much.
"Amir said the same." Haya murmured, but she had her reasons for feeling this way as well.
She couldn't get over it. She couldn't get over Amir looking at her with hope in his eyes and then trying to conceal it, just so she wouldn't feel hurt.
"You don't know, Aaliyah. You didn't see the look on his face when I tested myself and I wasn't pregnant again."
She told her friend, continuing when Aaliyah's expression softened as well.
"He looked so hopeful and then his face just, it broke my heart." She said, shaking her head because she felt disappointed and just sad that day.
"And you know what he did after that? He smiled at me like he didn't feel disappointed at all. He didn't want to make me feel bad,"
Amir was so careful about her feelings, he was sensitive and attentive and he cared so much. He never pushed her, never tried to tell her what he wanted and what he expected these days. Haya didn't want to disappoint him or screw things up.
"And I felt so bad,"
"Okay,"
Aaliyah let out a sigh, nodding.
"Here's what you should do. Go and get yourself checked with a proper fertility doctor, just so you can stop overthinking everything."
She suggested, Haya didn't seem too opposed to the idea.
"I know you are still not comfortable with the royal family doctor and I understand that, this is why you need to talk to somebody you can be more open with." She further added, continuing.
"There is a fertility specialist in the US, don't ask me how I know of her but I do."
"You can fly her out to Maraaish and get yourself checked."
Haya hummed, a little curious.
"but isn't that for women who can't get pregnant at all and they have to switch to IVF and stuff like that?"
She didn't know much about any of it, she was practically ignorant when it came to fertility doctors and normal gynaecologists. She could hardly differentiate. Were fertility doctors also called gynaecologists?
"Not really. You have to get tests done to understand if that's the problem. Look, you always have a bad perspective of Maraaish in your head." Aaliyah stated it like it was a fact.
"You act like it still is in the 1800s and you don't like the doctors subconsciously so you don't trust them either. When you hear the same thing from another doctor, you will obviously have more mental peace."
Well, there was logic in her words. She would also stop stressing out.
"You think? Should I talk to mom about this?" Aaliyah nodded, disconnecting her airpods quickly.
"Sure, she's right here." She added, standing up and walking towards the other sofa.
Haya raised her eyebrows, surprised.
"So this is what? New daughter and mother time?" She asked, as the camera showed both Aaliyah and her mother now.
"It's not the first time I've visited her, she's my aunt." Aaliyah defended, Haya hummed
"and it's got nothing to do with the fact that my brother has been sick for the past three days and he is at home?" She shot back, a little amused.
The Queen laughed, looking at her daughter through the camera.
"Aaliyah is letting him rest and sitting with me instead. And she's right about the doctor, I'll fly her to Maraaish tomorrow. You don't have to do anything, just talk to her."
She said, not giving Haya any room to put forth an argument. They were right, talking to someone else would help her relax too.
"Okay. I am not telling Amir anything until I know for sure. He'll get stressed."
She probably would tell him, but she didn't want anything mentioned to him from some other source.
"Okay."
"This means that you cannot text him and ask if everything is alright. I cannot believe you're chat buddies with my husband."
Haya scowled, because she had often found her husband mention how he talked to the Queen today. It was weird.
"it's for the days where you ignore me and don't pick my phone call." Her mother replied, shaking her head.
"Fine. How's Illyas? We haven't talked in two weeks I think. He didn't even call me back."
Haya had called him a week before, and he had not even called her back. She was annoyed about that too.
"He's alright. He's been out of the country for a week now."
"France?" She sarcastically guessed, her mother sighed.
"US, actually. There is a business expo or something. Look, Haya. I have to go now. Just stop stressing out, yeah?"
She stood up, putting a hand on Aaliyah's shoulder as she bid them goodbye.
"I'm okay. Don't worry." Haya mumbled, as the phone went back to showing Aaliyah's face.
"I'll also go now, Haya. I'll check up on Yusuf and go back home. Dad's been in a mood lately."
Haya nodded.
"Want me to tell Dad to send him away for a few days?" She joked, even though she had done it before.
"No, I'll manage. Talk later?"
"Okay."
"Hello,"
Haya had been keeping the poor woman waiting for atleast twenty minutes now. It wasn't her fault though. Nadia had been pestering her with the pending signatures that she had to do, and Haya couldn't avoid it any longer.
As she entered and smiled at the doctor, she felt like she had seen her before. She just couldn't pinpoint where she had seen her. Her caramel blonde hair and sweet smile instantly lifted Haya's mood too, as the woman didn't look much older than her and Haya felt comfortable because of that.
"Hello. It's such a pleasure to meet you." She shook her hand with the doctor as she greeted Haya.
"I'm Haya." Haya introduced herself, despite understanding that the woman knew of her.
"I know, I mean you're the reason I'm here so,"
She grinned, humming as she sat down and asked the woman to sit as well.
"Right,"
"Sorry, I'm Adiba Jameel. It's really nice to see you again." She introduced herself, since she had totally forgot to do that before.
Haya frowned in confusion, as the woman had told her that it was nice to see her again. She didn't really remember meeting her before, even though she looked familiar.
"We've met before?" She asked, tilting her head to a side.
"Quite a few years ago, I don't know if you remember me but I snuck you your first ever glass of champagne." She reminded, causing Haya to gasp.
How could she forget that?
She was thirteen years old, at a party in Buredaan where everyone was pretty much old enough to drink. She had been trying to get her brother to hand over a glass of champagne to get as well but Illyas wouldn't budge, telling her that she was extremely young for it right now.
His friend had different plans though. She let Haya take a hold of her own flute, letting her take a few sips before she took it back and smiled.
"Oh My God, you're Illyas' friend. Or ex girlfriend, I'm not sure. Of course, I remember you." She happily said, continuing when the doctor only smiled and nodded in return.
"My brother was obsessed with you, I remember." She further said, causing her to let out a laugh.
"I was quite obsessed with him too so it's okay,"
She had a fond smile on her face, and Haya knew that she was probably the first girl he had properly dated. At that time, Illyas used to tell everything to his mother. He wasn't such a liar back then.
"Does he know you're here?" She further asked, since she didn't know if they were still in contact
"Oh, we're not really in touch anymore. I don't even remember the last time I saw him."
Haya hummed in understanding. If she knew Illyas now, she would understand how much he had changed. He wasn't really the kind of man who would get obsessed with a woman anymore.
"Oh well, I'm actually quite glad. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to connect and discuss my problems properly."
"No, I make sure that all of my patients are well taken care of. You are on my priority from now on."
The doctor replied, causing Haya to nod as both of them got served with the strawberry lemonade that Haya absolutely loved. The weather in Maraaish was changing. Winters were almost over. The winds were chilly but since it was Maraaish, the days were mostly hot now.
"My assistant sent you everything you needed, right?"
"Yes, I did a complete research on you so you don't have to worry about that. "
Haya hummed, hearing more from the woman.
"Although I was very surprised to see that your doctor has only been treating you with very normal medication, I would have expected her to start a proper treatment with you at this point."
She added, and Haya couldn't have found a better time to rant about the old doctor that had practically delievered Amir as a baby.
"How long has it been since you've been trying?"
"Three months now."
"Usually, it's recommended to get fertility tests done after atleast eight months of actively trying. But I do understand your situation and concern."
She was habitual in dealing with high profile people in America. Sure, she hadn't really dealt with a Royal before but she had countless celebrities who couldn't conceive or just didn't want to.
It wasn't only the fact that she had a soft spot for Illyas' sister, but also because she wanted to meet Haya. She had read so many stories about her, had even heard some from people around her but she hadn't met her since she was just a little girl.
Hers was quite the story anyway. A rebellious Princess marrying a modest Crown Prince of another country. And now, she was trying to have a baby. Adiba wanted to be of help.
"You've not been keeping with your ovulation, have you?"
Haya's reports did not seem any different than most normal people. It had shocked the woman. She was a Princess, responsible to deliever the next heir of the Maraaishi Royal family. Why was she not getting the best treatment?
Or maybe this was the best treatment Maraaish could offer?
"Not really. My doctor said I should allow the natural flow of things."
Haya's response almost annoyed the doctor.
"That's some bullshit, excuse my language." She said, Haya looked at her in amusement.
"No, your language is perfect." She shrugged her off, and the doctor continued.
"It's just a dumb thing to say. We don't live in a natural world anymore. These old gynaecologists think they know everything."
"So there are a couple of things that you should start with. First, I'll explain everything to you about ovulation and testing. You have to do that,"
Haya nodded, as she heard the woman talk.
"Then, we're going to get some tests done. It has to be you and your husband. There should be a semen analysis because in many of the cases, problem is with the sperm."
Haya already knew that convincing Amir would be a fucking job.
"That might be a little hard, Amir's not here right now. He's in Germany."
Adiba nodded.
"I'm here for a week. If you want to be one hundred percent relaxed, you need to get all your tests done." She suggested.
"Or you can wait it out a little longer, it has only been three months. That's nothing compared to what I've seen." Her words did relax Haya, but she knew she wouldn't be completely satisfied until all the tests would come out fine.
"Okay. I think I'd like to be completely relaxed."
Aaliyah.
Can you blame Illyas?
Haya.
Amir's haram meter just went up like a thousand times.
Aaliyah.
Her account's private with no men allowed. She's fine 😂
Haya.
I'm actually happy she's living her life.
Aaliyah.
Let's just hope it doesn't blow up in her face 🤷
"Haya, I understand that you're occupied as well but this is the third time I've covered for you. You were so excited about this project, is something wrong?"
It was Nadia. Again.
Haya wanted to roll her eyes. She wasn't in the working spirit lately and she just wished Nadia would stop calling her again and again. It was getting annoying now.
"No, it's not. I just have to go to the Palace." She replied, hoping that the call would end as soon as possible.
She hadn't even planned to go to the Palace but she decided to do it anyway.
"I'll have a meeting with you first thing tomorrow morning." She added, ready to get it the call done with.
"Okay, I'll see you then."
"See you."
She let out a sigh, sitting in the car as she was ready to visit Amir's mother. She just didn't know why.
@Haya : 🌄
"Salam," She greeted as her mother in law entered the hall, gasping in delight as she laid her eyes on her daughter in law.
It was the first time she had seen Haya visit so casually, especially without Amir.
After her false pregnancy alarm, Amir had told his mother not to mention anything related to it. He didn't want Haya to feel disappointed for something that wasn't even her fault.
"Haya? What a wonderful surprise." Haya stood up, greeting the woman with two side kisses.
"How are you?"
"I'm well, so happy to see you." Haya smiled at the woman's delight, sitting back down.
"I was just thinking that it's been a while since I last visited and yeah, i wanted to come by."
"I'm glad, usually I have to invite you for dinner before you even think of coming here so this is a very nice surprise."
She nodded, more relaxed than she had actually expected to be.
"How have you been? How is work?"
"It's been okay, I haven't really been paying too much attention but it's fine."
"Why? Are you feeling well?" Haya nodded.
She hoped that the woman didn't know of her sudden obsession with pregnancy. The last thing she wanted was for the Queen to start expecting Amir's child.
"Oh yeah, I'm fine. I am just occupied with other thoughts that's why."
Her mother-in-law started to talk about the King's health and Haya simply sat down, feeling at peace. Some days, it was actually nice to sit with Amir's family and spend time with them. They weren't as judgemental as she had first perceived them to be, they were always happy to see her and they had been so excited to attend Yusuf's wedding. It had changed Haya's perspective a little bit.
"Haya? assalam alaykum."
It was Najma who entered the hall in between conversation, a boy in her arms. Haya recognised him as the son of Amir's brother.
She smiled and got up, greeting Najma properly.
"it's good to see you." Najma murmured as she pulled back, the boy still in her hold as Haya smiled at him too.
"Yeah, you as well. Oh hello, hi." She felt him smile back, as she sat down on the sofa and Najma sat next to her.
"I am just babysitting today. Apparently, I need to have some experience with kids before I get married."
Najma was set to be married by the end of the year.
"Seriously? I am married and I have zero experience with kids. Why does it even matter?"
"In our family, the only reason people marry is for the sake of children. Has mother not started to nag you about a child yet?" She pointed towards the Queen, who shook her head and chuckled.
"I have not,"
If it were up to her and if Amir had allowed her, she would have started to talk about grandchildren already. She hadn't experienced the feeling of being a grandmother through her own blood. Amir was her only child and she really wanted to hold his heir soon.
"Do you want to hold him?" As Najma saw Haya stare at the baby, she gestured him towards her.
"Yeah, sure." Najma put the boy on Haya's lap, and Haya instantly put her arms around him.
She didn't know how, since it was like an instant switch but she suddenly felt like it made perfect sense. Her holding a baby, it made perfect sense. Why was she even bitching about it with Amir at the start? Babies were absolutely adorable and being a mother didn't mean a woman was getting old.
Besides, how nice would it be to see Amir holding their baby? Even the idea of it caused Haya to grin.
"Oh look, he's so comfortable already."
Najma commented, since the child had already put his head against Haya's chest.
"Yeah," Haya noticed, and then laughed as she felt the baby giggle too.
He had this contagious laugh, which made everything better. Haya kept thinking of the reason why she had came to the Palace, she only now realised that it was because she knew there would be children present.
She didn't know what was happening to her, but this baby fever was overwhelming her way too much. It wasn't supposed to be this way. She was a total bitch. Since when did she turn so damn soft?
"You know he hardly laughs, look at him giggling with you."
Her mother in law nudged her, and Haya only shrugged. Najma picked up her phone, standing up as she went in front of Haya.
"Wait, I'll take a picture. You're a natural with kids, Haya."
As she snapped a few photographs, Haya placed a kiss on the boy's head, feeling his soft skin on her lips.
"Oh he's beautiful." She mumbled, holding him for a little more.
She had the baby in her arms, and she was engrossed in a conversation with her mother in law. She was sure it had been atleast twenty minutes and while she expected the child to get bored and just get off her lap, he was actually sitting in comfortable silence.
"Come on Ali, play time is over now. Let's take you back to your mother." Najma finally said, looking at the time.
"Are you sure? I don't mind having him here."
Honestly, Haya didn't want to let the baby go so soon. She just didn't want to admit it.
"I know but I'm pretty sure it's time for food." She nodded, as she felt Najma pick up the child.
She walked away with a small mumble of how she was going to come back, and her mother in law stood up at the same time.
"Haya, you'll have lunch hmm? I'll get it set up on the roof."
"Okay,"
"I'll be back, just a while."
Haya only nodded and let the woman go, dialling back the phone call that she had just missed.
It had been quite a while since she had last talked to Hunain. They were both busy individuals so it didn't really matter how much or how less they talked. Although, this was probably the longest they had gone not talking with one another.
They hadn't even texted much, which was unbelievable for the both of them. Since the start, he was the person to send her all kinds of fun videos and memes. She was the one to send back voice messages of her laughing her ass off.
"Hello?" She greeted, as she felt him pick up the phone call.
"Well hello, I haven't talked to you since I last met you. Where have you been?"
He asked, cutting straight to the point. Haya let out a chuckle at the exasperation in his tone.
"I've been here. You are the one who never calls."
"I was waiting for you to call?" He made an excuse, she rolled her eyes playfully.
"That's bullshit. How are you?"
"Great, I was just in Budapest and guess who I saw there?"
"Who?" Haya frowned, hoping it wasn't her brother with some new girl.
"Yaman," she cringed, because she hadn't thought of him at all.
Yes, she had shed a few tears at her lost friendship. He was her childhood friend and he had ruined their entire friendship but now, she was done with the topic. She didn't want to remember Yaman and get upset again.
"Ugh, don't take his name."
"He wasn't alone. He was with Sara, and suddenly it all made sense. Why didn't you tell me?"
Haya groaned.
"I was overwhelmed at the time and then we never really had a chance to talk, and my brother is happy now so I don't feel the need to bitch about Sara."
A part of her actually felt glad that Yaman was atleast taking responsibility of his actions. He hadn't completely lost sense of who he was.
"So you and Yaman are not friends anymore?"
"He called a couple of times and sent a few messages but family above all. He was my closest friend and he didn't respect that relationship enough. I can't be friends with someone like that."
She explained, Hunain understood that all too well.
"I expected you to rip him to shreds though, you're getting soft." He mentioned, Haya clicked her tongue.
"I am not getting soft, I just don't want unnecessary drama anymore." She tried, even though the moment she had witnessed just a while ago clearly showed how soft she had actually got.
"Softie, are you pregnant or something? usually women have this new birth inside of them when they are expecting."
Hunain was only joking but upon hearing silence for a moment, he gasped. Haya could hear it over the phone even.
"Haya, you are?!!" She rolled her eyes at the shock in his voice. Even if she was, it shouldn't be so shocking to him.
"Hunain, I'm not. Jeez,"
She mumbled, continuing.
"But maybe in a few months, I'm thinking about it."
"You? As a mother?!"
"I'll try to not act offended." She shot back, he laughed over the line.
"Come on, Haya. I have seen you drunk and dancing on bar tables. Excuse me if I didn't get a motherly vibe."
Well, yes.
The Haya he knew and the Haya she was now, there was alot of change. She had stopped overthinking about that.
Everytime she felt like she was changing, she would start blaming Amir and fight it out with him for no reason. She didn't want to do that anymore.
"it's just I always imagined you as the cool aunt and not the actual mother." Hunain added, she hummed.
"Too bad I married a Crown Prince and I need to produce children,"
She said, sarcasm laced in her tone.
"You are not a machine. Are you being forced to have a child now?"
"Surprisingly no. It is my decision. I had a scare and after that, I was like I really want a baby. It's weird, you won't understand."
He did understand. Haya always wanted what she couldn't have.
"Okay, as long as it's your decision." He murmured, switching the topic.
"How's everyone back home?"
"Everyone's good, yeah. All fine back at your place?"
"It is, surprisingly." Both of them laughed, and Haya stood up as a servant told her that lunch was ready and everyone was waiting for her.
"Listen, I'm at the Palace right now. Let's talk later?"
"Okay, yeah. Let's take Aaliyah in a conference too, maybe tomorrow?"
"Sure, sounds good. Good hearing from you."
"Bye, Haya."
She ended the phone call, glad that she had people to talk to.
She might have lost one friend, but she had many more to share her stories with.
______
Haya.
I
might have held a child and now my hormones are all over the place.
"Haya," the moment he had seen her text message along with the picture, he had pressed dial because he didn't know who else to act this way with.
"Hey," Haya replied, greeting him with a soft hey as she was genuinely surprised to hear him call right now. He had an extremely tight schedule in Germany, this is why she hadn't called or texted too much either.
"I literally have to go for a meeting and I see this text from you and now I cannot stop thinking about anything else."
He admitted, causing her to grin over the phone line. She knew that the pictures Najma had taken were absolutely heart warming. She was glowing and looked so happy with a child next to her. She didn't even remember the last time she had held any child mildly related to her.
"My heart is so full, you have no idea."
Amir murmured. The last time had felt so overwhelmed, it was the day Haya had interacted with two children on their first visit together. Before that, even the idea of Haya being a mother felt foreign.
"He is such a happy baby, Akbar is so grumpy I never expected his child to be so giggly." Haya told him, and it got Amir to think.
Was she at the Palace? She never went to the Palace on her own, he literally had to ask every single time.
"What are you even doing there?"
"I wasn't in the mood to work and I thought I will go and visit your mother, so now I am at the Palace and Najma handed me the baby and he started to giggle with me, I'm feeling too much of everything, babe."
She was full of surprises today, that much was clear. He felt happy at the idea of Haya willingly visiting his family. She sounded like she wasn't having a bad time there either.
"I had the desire to have a child and now with your baby fever, I cannot stop thinking about it."
Haya smiled, taking the arabic coffee from the woman as she talked to her husband..
"Yeah, but it's been three months and I'm worried now. When you come back, we need to get some tests done."'
She told him, but Amir thought she was being too stressed about it all. It would happen sooner or later.
"Baby, it takes time. You're worried for nothing." He tried to soothe her nerves.
"It's not for nothing. Your doctor doesn't know shit, I flew another from America and she's here till the end of this week. When you come back, we're taking the tests."
She knew she had decided to not talk about it with him so soon but she couldn't help herself.
"What tests?"
"Fertility tests." Amir let out a sigh at her answer.
"Haya." He already didn't sound too happy about it.
Haya groaned.
"Amir, please don't be the kind of man who takes it over his ego if he gets a fertility test done. It's routine and it is nothing to be ashamed of."
She explained. Amir didn't know what to say. He had never heard or seen anyone in his family getting tested. He didn't want to do it either.
"I'm not ashamed. I just feel like you're obsessed and thinking too hard."
But at the same time, what if there was some problem? What if he was the reason Haya wasn't getting pregnant? Okay, was he also thinking too much now?
"Fine, I'm obsessed. Even then it will be good if both of us get tests done and stop worrying." Haya told him, snapping him out of his own thoughts.
"I'm not worried." Amir murmured, although he was worried now.
"Amir, please."
There was another problem he had recently encountered. He always used his soft tones and endearments to make her say yes and agree to things. Haya, she had just learned the world please. He could never refuse her when she would sound so vulnerable without any ego.
"Okay, I'll get it done when I'm back. Don't stress about it."
He gave in, not ready to argue with her because she had already requested him and not fought the way she usually did.
___
Haya.
So apparently my fertility doctor is your ex.
Illyas.
You met Adiba?
Haya.
Yess and that's what you reply to after weeks of no talk?
Illyas.
How is she?
Haya.
She's beautiful and super smart and you're stupid to let her go.
Illyas.
She's also married now with a kid.
Haya.
Oh. She said you haven't been in touch with her for a long time now.
Illyas.
Yes, Haya. I can't keep up with all of my exes. I hope you're doing well. Now bye.
Haya.
I hope amir catches you with his sister one day and you get screwed over.
Illyas.
Ha ha.
Haya.
Ok I don't hope that, you're just so annoying. Good bye.
Haya just didn't know that some words were better left unsaid, because once you did say them, they returned to you in a magically twisted way.
