Haya.
"Mother, I understand that you have a husband and three sons but it shouldn't be too hard to pick a phone call?" She greeted the moment her mother said a hello after picking up the call.
The Queen let out a soft chuckle, knowing that she had ignored her daughter throughout the whole day and although Haya also did that at times, she simply couldn't take it when others did the same to her.
"Don't be dramatic, Haya." She murmured, sitting down to talk to her daughter.
"I'm still the Queen. I have duties." She further added, Haya let out a sigh.
"I had to call your assistant. She said you've been with Illyas for an hour now." Haya replied as a matter of fact.
"Yes, I was with your brother. He needed to be guided."
That really caught her attention. Illyas needed to be guided? Haya did not remember the last time her mother had complained about Illyas. He was the closest to his mother and Haya knew that he was probably the Queen's favourite son.
"What happened?"
"I don't know. I guess he really misses you. He came back and told me he needed to visit Maraaish because he missed his sister."
Her eyes raised in surprise. She knew that he had lied straight up and used her to lie as well. She had not heard from him for almost five days and even though Haya had sent a text, my dear brother had still not bothered to respond.
"If he misses me so much, why hasn't he called me in a week?" She retorted.
"What? Are you sure?"
"Yes, I am. He doesn't miss me mother. There's something else going on and it's going to backfire on all of us."
She didn't want to say anything about her conflicted mind to her mother but she couldn't help herself either.
"And what exactly is going on?"
"I can't tell you. Sibling privacy and I am still not sure what exactly is going on." She stated honestly.
"You have to tell me something. I will go crazy with worry over here."
Well, that was true.
And besides, she had to tell someone. She had to know what her parents thought of the matter.
"I think he might be interested in Amir's sister." Haya confessed, hearing a gasp on the other end.
"What? That's wonderful." She heard her mother exclaim in utter delight and a frown etched on her face.
"I'm sorry?" She thought she hadn't heard her mother right because why the fuck was her mother happy about this?
"I said that it's wonderful. Finally Illyas is taking interest in something other than business. I don't see how it's wrong." The Queen elaborated and Haya let out a groan.
"It's wrong because your dear son is used to hooking up with girls and she is literally my husband's sister. He goes anywhere near her and there can be a problem between the two families."
Besides, were they not already tied enough because of her own relationship. They had to think about her marriage to Amir whenever they thought about relationship between Buredaan and Maraaish.
"He's mature enough. Maybe he's taking an interest in terms of marriage. You have to give him the benefit of the doubt."
"But I don't want marriage either. I don't approve." She complained.
"And did you seek your brother's approval when you decided to marry Amir?"
Yeah, well. She didn't.
"You literally don't see anything when it comes to Illyas." Haya grumbled, hearing a laugh.
"I'm just stating facts, Haya." Her mother replied, Haya nodded.
She didn't approve but she couldn't stop it either. She could warn them though. If not Illyas, she could atleast warn Suhoor.
"Anyway, I'm still not confirmed that there's something going on or not so don't mention it anywhere." She uttered, glancing at the time.
"I won't."
"And Haya, please don't meddle in Illyas' affairs. Let him create his own path." She groaned, the words top familiar.
"Stop talking like dad." She stated.
"Stop being a hypocrite." Her mother said back, Haya clicked her tongue.
"Mom, I'm hanging up." She warned.
Her mother knew she was just bluffing.
"No, you are not. If you're so worried and can't even give him the benefit of the doubt, talk to him when you see him on Thursday."
"I tried already. He totally denied."
"Then try indirectly this time. And please let him find his happiness. God knows he needs a beautiful girl in his life."
Her mother advised, Haya cringed.
"I'm already coping with Sara, please no." She groaned, her mother made a sound of protest.
"Haya, do you really want another lecture?" She heard the woman say.
"No, thank you. I'll talk to you later."
Haya said, ending the phone call as she saw the time again and knew that she had to attend her meeting with another human rights activists today.
"Haya, here's the speech you're supposed to make."
His comment came out so randomly as he threw a few printed papers on the table that Haya had to look up and frown, thinking that she had heard him wrong.
"What?" She questioned, finding him point towards the papers again.
"The speech." Amir said, stopping mid track as well.
"No," Haya denied.
"What?" It was his turn to think that she had heard him wrong.
"I'm not going to make any speech like that. I'm going to say what I want to say." Haya insisted, gesturing for him to sit down so that they could talk.
Amir sat on the velvet stool in front of her.
"This isn't the first time you'll be making a speech that you've not written. There is nothing to get worked up for." Amir stated, reminding her of the event she had attended in place of her brother in America.
"Amir, I know that. But I've always had my own input. You really expect me to be your robot and say what's been fed?" She cross questioned, he shook his head.
"Haya," He leaned forward to explain, she shook her head.
"Don't Haya me. You know this is important to me." Her voice got firm as well and she could hear him getting annoyed as well.
Clearly, he had bigger problems and didn't have time for such tantrums.
"What's the problem? Most Royals don't write on their own. Even I don't." He replied, frustrated.
"Yes, you do. You might not have the time to write them but you read it and get changes made if you want. They write what you want written."
He put his hands in his face.
"You want me to read from a piece of paper, you want me to write what you want people to hear from you. Not me. There is a difference." Haya stated, clearing her stance.
"Why do you think father agreed to this?" Amir asked, voice tone still very low and almost tired.
"Don't come to me using your father's name. We all know who is in charge now. You respect your father so you always ask him about things but everyone knows he is old and tired now." Haya argued.
Amir sometimes thought that Haya being aware of everything was such a disadvantage.
"Fine. I don't want you to say anything that will land me or my country in trouble." Amir cleared it, standing up.
He removed his coat and put it on the same seat he was previously sitting on.
"and I have assured you countless times that I will not sabotage what you have created. Do I even have to ask you to trust me?"
Haya stood up as well, hating that he would put a piece of paper on the table and ask her to say everything based on that.
"I trust you with my life, Haya." Amir said, voice much tender than before.
"But not with this." She murmured, he clicked his tongue.
"The way you look at things and the way I look at things are completely different. Even if you try hard to not say something that will create trouble, it still might create trouble."
He was being honest with his words and when he didn't see her frown deepen, he continued.
"I am not doubting you. You have no idea the kind of positive press that this country is getting. Even Saudi Arabia is contemplating on sending a woman representative after our announcement." He put his hand on her arm, squeezing it as he pulled her forward to him.
"But I also told you that we need to take baby steps and this is a major leap already. The speech you need to make should be very confined." He advised, finding her soften at his touch and at his words too.
Haya nodded.
"Fine. You ask the team to write me a new speech and I'll go through it." She was stubborn enough to not even look at the stack of papers and read them.
She didn't want to read the crap that was written without keeping her perspective in mind.
"I reserve the right to make changes if I see any problem." Haya further said, seeing her husband let out a sigh and nod after reluctance.
"Okay. You can modify it but it cannot be offensive." He forwarded.
"I won't try to make it offensive on purpose but if someone gets offended then that means their ego can't handle a woman speaking the truth." She replied, lifting her chin up in defiance.
Amir nodded, knowing that there wasn't any point in arguing.
"Or they have small dicks." She pointed out, rolling her eyes.
"Haya, astaghfirullah." He muttered in return, shaking his head at her.
"So we have a deal." Haya mentioned, looking at him.
"I never thought I'd be negotiating with my wife." She heard him admit, feeling his lips linger on her forehead.
"You also never thought you would marry Princess Haya." She smugly replied, closing her eyes.
"No. I simply dreamed of marrying someone I would love for the rest of my life."
He kissed her forehead and smiled.
"Assalamualaikum. It's nice to hear from you, Haya." Haya could hear the surprise in Suhoor's voice.
"Yes, salam to you as well. How are you?" She greeted.
"I'm fine, yeah..I'm okay." She replied in hesitation.
"That's good. I just thought I would check up on you. I wanted to see how things were going."
Suhoor could understand why Haya was calling her and if anything, it made her extremely wary.
"Everything is fine. It's the same as before." She murmured, hoping that Haya would not question her.
"Is it?" Haya asked, inspecting her nails as she sat by the window and drank in the sunshine.
"Uh, yes."
"Look, I don't like to beat around the bush so I am going to question you once and for all and I need an honest answer." She came forward,
"Okay?"
"Are you having an affair with my brother?" Haya straight up asked, hearing silence over the phone call before she heard Suhoor again.
"No, no. I'm not. I am really not." She tried to sound as genuine as she could but Haya decided to bluff, knowing that she wasn't Illyas and she wouldn't be able to deny for very long.
"So that means you are talking but he hasn't asked you to be his girlfriend yet."
She decided. Even the word girlfriend was too respectful to be used. Illyas would bring women at events sometimes and introduce them as his dates. Haya didn't remember any girl that she had seen on her brother's arm more than once.
"Haya, please. I don't know what you are talking about." Suhoor almost pleaded.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about." Haya sounded too firm for her sister in law's liking.
"there is nothing going on and even if there was something going on, I thought you would be the last person to stop anyone. You believe in the freedom of everything, don't you?" She shot back, Haya let out a small chuckle.
She had clearly pressed on a sensitive topic.
"You are right. I have no right to stop anyone from living their life and I will not stop anyone. I will not give a fuck if my brother has an affair with you." She continued.
"But I will give a fuck if your affair ruins things between Amir and my brother. Or between Maraaish and Buredaan." She further said.
She didn't think that Suhoor even acknowledged all of this or thought about it.
"I really I am not trying to be a bitch over here. I just need you to understand that I love my brother but I don't remember the last time he was serious with any girl." She added, going on and on as she tried to explain.
"He has slept with actors, models, socialites, even a few Royals that can't be named. He hasn't felt a thing for anyone. All he has ever cared about is his business and,"
She knew Illyas was being potrayed as selfish. She wasn't trying to frame him in such a manner.
He was a good son, an annoying but protective and loving brother, an incredible businessman and probably a decent human being.
She also knew that every woman he had been with didn't need much persuasion. Everything he did with any woman was based on consent and she knew that too.
Her brother was not a bad person but she didn't think he would prove to be good for Suhoor.
"And I don't want you to simply be a one night stand for him. Even if it's based on mutual trust and talk."
Suhoor was totally silent on the line so Haya spoke again.
"It's your choice, all of it is your choice but I just wanted to tell you anyway." She tried, hoping that Suhoor would understand.
"Have you wondered that maybe your brother actually finds me attractive and it's not just about sex for him this time?"
She wasn't really expecting such a response but Suhoor was the stubborn one in Amir's family and if she could argue with her father, she could also argue with Haya. She had done it before too.
"Maybe." Haya murmured.
"But what if he finds that attraction gone once you've been with him?"
And there was silence again. She was unsure, she was totally infatuated and attracted but she wasn't sure. Haya sensed that so easily.
"He's very charming and lovely with the ladies. He is a Prince, He's a complete dream for many." She stated.
She didn't think her brother was manipulative but he was charming enough for anyone to be persuaded with his words only.
"You know, Illyas never admitted to even talking to you. You've told me all I needed to hear and understand." Haya admitted, continuing.
"He's attracted. You're reluctant but infatuated. You're possibly falling in love too, considering you've never been with a man."
She muttered, Suhoor let out long sigh.
"How do you know I haven't?"
"I won't say a thing to anyone. Don't worry." She said instead, ignoring the question.
"Thank you. I'll be careful." Haya only hummed, ready to hang up.
"Can I please ask you for a favor, Haya?" She frowned, a little confused as she asked the girl to go on and talk.
"Yes?"
"Can you please convince my brother to let me go with you?" She almost wanted to laugh.
"No. Why would I do that?"
"Because," Suhoor could not come up with an excuse so Haya spoke up again.
"Because Illyas will be there and it can create a chance for you both? No, I'm not going to help you in that."
"But-"
"I said I wouldn't say a thing. I said I can't do anything to stop you but I never said that I approved it or that I'll help you."
She didn't want to help because she wasn't a fan of the both and she didn't want to be known as a helper to them if things ever got exposed. She knew it would create a rift between her and Amir.
"Okay. Thanks anyway."
"Bye."
Haya hung up, hoping that Suhoor would atleast think and understand.
