@Haya : 'there's no force stronger than a woman determined to rise.'

"And ofcourse, I don't think this interview can go on without us questioning about how different the situation must be for you."

The interviewer stated, watching as Princess Haya gave a graceful smile in return. She was in a white knee length dress, a sleeveless one at that.

At the last moment, she had thrown a summer jacket over herself..trying to look more modest so she wouldn't get an earful from Prince Amir.

It had been almost half a month since he had given her a department to work on and a responsibility that she considered extremely important.

"You're obviously from a country that is extremely different from your own. How has that experience been for you so far?"

He enquired, finding Haya nod.

"It has been a little difficult, ofcourse. Getting used to the culture and traditions has been tough but at the same time, I really feel like I can create a change over here."

She professed, continuing.

"I think I can truly try to make a difference so I'm quite excited about that."

"And you've taken up the responsibility to increase the number of women workers in Maraaish. How is the progress on that?"

"Yes, I have."

"Well, it has only been two weeks so we still have a long way to go. I have a wonderful team with me who is extremely committed in creating a change."

And she did.

Nadia was a smart woman with ideas that mostly didn't clash with Haya's. She had tried to advise Haya too. She somewhat understood her nature, she understood how Haya wanted to do things and she respected it too.

Infact, Haya had also developed a liking towards the woman. She found her passionate towards the very same cause.

And she got along with Amir too well. Unlike other women, Amir didn't talk less in front of her. He conversated with Nadia over a variety of things and it amused Haya at times.

"I'm very passionate when it comes to gender equality so I truly hope I can make things better for the women here."

"Ofcourse."

"You're the wife of a Crown Prince, the one who is internationally recognized for reducing domestic violence crimes in the country. How has the support been for you by him?"

She knew Amir's reputation globally was extremely positive due to this very cause. He had worked hard to reduce domestic crimes in the country and now, even as a Crown Prince..he still took a close look at it every now and then. He monitored everything.

"Obviously, Amir is very supportive. He truly pushed me to take this job because he understands my potential."

She affirmed, smiling.

"You're an active member of social media. Your instagram and twitter, you say are used by you personally. How is it interacting with people on such a platform?"

"It's both a blessing and a curse."

"Speaking about it being a curse, the people of Maraaish haven't exactly been very fond of this new movement by you. How are you taking this criticism?"

Haya hadn't really read any criticism. She knew there definitely would be some but she didn't have the heart to read bad things about herself and not snap back.

"I've actually not read much about it. I think the less you read, the less it affects you."

She said out the truth.

"There was a tweet that went viral this week and it didn't potray that people of this country have any confidence in you. Do you know about that?"

She didn't. But she knew he was just about to tell her. Maybe, that's why Amir told her about the list of questions first.

"As I said, I've not read much."

She stated.

"I can read it for you."

Haya didn't gesture him to go on but he started to read the tweet anyway.

"It says "She is nothing more than a Royal eye candy. Good hair, pretty face, fancy clothes, big words and a whole lot of money. If she thinks buying shoes worth millions is change or revolution, she is certainly very wrong."

She felt smug about the good hair, pretty face and fancy clothes. The other part, she simply chose to not think about it.

"I don't think there's anything wrong with having good hair or fancy clothes. I don't claim to be someone revolutionary but I do believe in a fair treatment of women. I do believe that every person has the right to be treated equally."

She answered, continuing.

"I can understand criticism because the people of this country do not really know me. I hope they do understand me with time though."

She added, looking at him for the next question.

"So would you say that you're becoming a major advocate for women's rights in Maraaish?"

"Yes, ofcourse."

"And does that involve providing them with other rights as well? The right to work on an equal salary, the right to join the forces, the right to travel without a male guardian."

She found it extremely stupid. Women in Maraaish couldn't travel without their mehrams. They couldn't get their identity cards made without a male guardian. They couldn't get a driver's license. Only married women had the right to drive, which Haya didn't even understand at all.

She had told Amir it was so fucking stupid and the Crown Prince had simply shaken his head, mumbling an astaghfirullah and walking away.

"For sure. I honestly think that every woman has the right to travel wherever she wants to, without any permission from anyone. Maraaish is a city with a very low crime rate, I don't understand why a woman can't travel alone to another country."

She wanted to speak alot more but she knew it wouldn't be liked by Amir so she only answered in a very balanced way.

"You're openly criticising a policy that is made by the government of this country. Do you think it can land you in trouble?"

Ofcourse. This wasn't Buredaan. People here got into trouble for giving such bland statements too. She remembered how she had criticized several policies by her father which had actually gone viral everywhere. Yuusf had scolded her on the dining table, even her father had told her to control herself but that was pretty much it.

"I'm not really afraid to land in trouble. It won't be the first time, yeah?"

Haya still joked, earning a laugh from the man himself.

"Alot of people compare Maraaish with Saudi Arabia when it comes to women's rights specifically. Do you believe this theory?"

She shook her head. There were several Saudi policies that she absolutely loathed but the country had good terms with both Maraaish and Buredaan. She didn't want to ruin that.

"I think there's a vast difference between the two countries but they share an Islamic culture which makes it very easy for people to compare them."

"Well, we know that you don't have much time to give to us so we will just wrap up this interview by wishing you the best of luck. Hopefully, we can sit together in the upcoming months and discuss the progress."

"Thank you very much. I hope so too."

She shook his hand, smiling as the interview ended.

"What is it Nadia?" Haya asked with a roll of her eyes as she found the woman stare at her in a way that said alot of things.

It felt like Nadia wanted to say something but she could not, as if she was hesitating.

Haya stared at her, waiting to hear what she had to say.

"I don't think this interview will go on air, Haya."

It was unusual for her to be so friendly with someone in a very short period of time but since Nadia was open minded, funny and even in appropriate at times..Haya had befriended her in less than a week.

Besides, she talked about fashion all the time and Haya had her heart with people who talked like that.

"What?" She frowned, hearing the statement.

What did she mean by it won't go on air?

"You criticized the government. We're not very tolerant with criticism so most probably, it'll either be cut very short or won't even go on air."

Nadia explained, knowing very well that her entire interview would be sent to the Crown Prince's media team because he was the one responsible for every action taken by Haya.

"So I give an interview on a national television program and you think it won't go onair because of the government's media approach?" Haya enquired, frowning as she just couldn't believe that something like that could even happen.

"Yes."

"Knowing that my husband kind of owns that government?"

"Well, yes. Even Prince Amir is answerable to the King. He's very calculated." Nadia told her the truth.

She knew such a thing could happen but at the same time, Amir had encouraged her to give the interview.

Besides, she hadn't even criticized in a demeaning sort of way. She had just stated a fact. She didn't think it would be a big deal.

"Nonsense, Nadia. I didn't say anything that could lead to stupid shit happening."

Nadia gave a smug smile as Haya said that. The Princess rolled her eyes.

"Ofcourse. I don't have to say anything for stupid shit to happen, you're right." She further grumbled, earning a laugh from Nadia.

Even though Haya managed to laugh too, she truly hoped that Amir wouldn't do anything that could possibly cause disappointment and an argument.

"Well hello to those who leave the house uninformed." Haya greeted as she picked up his phone call, smugly smiling at her own taunt.

This morning, the Crown Prince had left quite early for work. He hadn't really laid down after fajr prayer, leaving Haya to wake up on her own with an empty bed and no man by her side.

The house help had told her that Prince Amir had already left for work, causing her to frown. He had texted her though, informing that he was stuck in meetings all day.

Still, hearing his voice after hours had caused a certain peace within herself.

"Salam, my darling. How are you?" Amir greeted back just as warmly.

"I'm definitely mad at you. Why didn't you wake me up?"

"You looked too peaceful for me to disturb you." He told her, Haya let out a small laugh.

"Pretty words won't always get you out of trouble, Amir." She reminded, Amir hummed in agreement.

"Maybe not, but I know when they work and when they don't." He shot back.

Amir knew when he needed to say something and when his words would not do justice but his actions would.

She rolled her eyes playfully, sitting down on her office chair.

"Haya..listen."

"Yes baby?" She said back, voice as sweet as honey.

"You didn't get the list of questions again. You also stopped our media team from taking them. Why?" Amir questioned, she knew he would ask about that.

"Because," Haya whined, then groaned as she knew she had to give him a proper answer.

"Because it's so fake to me, Amir. There's nothing real and raw about giving pre planned interviews. I couldn't do it again." She explained, hoping this would be the end of it.

"And then you went onto criticize my government. You know that you're not allowed to do that." Amir stated, Haya immediately scowled.

"Allowed to?" She repeated in disbelief.

The Crown Prince clicked his tongue.

"Haya," His tone turned softer than before.

"You don't know the people of this country. It is very easy to offend them. Please don't make things difficult for me or for you." He requested this time, Haya sighed.

"I gave one simple statement, extremely respectfully." She defended.

Amir didn't think like that. She shouldn't have given a statement like that in the first place.

"Does not change the context." He shot back, continuing.

"Anyway, our team will handle it. They'll cut the parts that may cause trouble." He told her.

She couldn't believe her ears.

Was he serious?

"Amir, what the fuck?" Haya cursed, not understanding why this was made out to be such a big deal.

Even her father hadn't ever done something of this sort to her.

"I'm busy, Haya. I know this angers you but just think about it properly and you'll realise it's the right thing to do." He explained, Haya breathed out a sigh of disbelief.

"I can't imagine how women of this country even breathe when I have to walk on egg shells and I'm not even from here." She said to him, frowning.

"This is literally oppression." She insisted, Amir raised his eyes in shock.

"Do you even know what oppression means, hmm?" He was trying to remain calm as well but the word oppression caused him to react.

"You're in no way oppressed in this country. I've always guarded you and made you feel like you have all the freedom." He reminded her, she didn't reply.

He waited for her to say something but Haya truly didn't know what to say.

"And now you're quiet." Amir murmured, hearing silence again.

He shook his head and decided to end the phone call.

"We'll talk at home." He said, ending the call.

Haya didn't know where she was going or what she was doing but she found herself storm out of the office, without a care.

It's a relatively short chapter but drama is stirring up gradually and I'm excited.

Thoughts?
