Monaco
Jax:
Ana:
Tatiana:
Happy drove Pepper, Tony and Jax up to a hotel in Monaco. They walked in together.
"You know, it's Europe," Tony told them. "Whatever happens in the next 20 minutes, just go with it."
"Go with it?" Pepper repeated. "Go with what?"
Natasha walked closer. "Hello."
"Like that," Tony told them.
"How was your flight?" Natasha asked.
"It was excellent," Tony answered. "Boy, it's nice to see you."
Natasha turned to look at her daughters, Anastasia and Tatiana, as they walked closer. "These are my sisters, Ana and Tanya."
Jax looked at them in surprise, obviously taken in by their looks. "Hello. I'm Jax."
Ana smiled. "We know."
"What are you guys doing here?" Jax asked.
"Your dad was kind enough to lend us a flight," Tanya answered.
Pepper gave Tony a look.
Jax looked at Tony curiously.
Tony cleared his throat. "Hey, Natalie, do you remember what we discussed?"
"Yes," Natalie answered. "We have one photographer from the ACM, if you don't mind. Okay?"
"Mm-hmm," Tony answered.
Natasha walked away to get the photographer.
Jax, Tony and Pepper smiled.
The photographer took the photo, walking away.
"Where's the bar?" Jax asked.
"Right this way," Ana answered.
Ana and Tanya led Jax away from Tony and Pepper.
Pepper looked at Tony. "When did this happen?"
"What?" Tony asked. "You made me do it."
"I made you do what?" Pepper asked.
"You quit," Tony told her. "Stop acting constipated. Don't flare your nostrils."
"You are so predictable," Pepper told him.
"That's the amazing thing," Tony told her.
Tatiana and Natasha were getting a table for Jax, Tony, Pepper, Ana and themselves.
Ana and Jax were having a drink at the bar.
"You look fantastic," Jax told her.
"Why, thank you very much," Ana told him.
"You and Tanya are like Natalie, huh?" Jax asked.
"Depends on what you mean," Ana answered.
"Old school, old soul, chill and polite?" Jax asked.
"We can be," Ana answered. "Tanya's more like our mom than I am. I have bit more of a... playful and rebellious side."
Jax smiled. "Yeah?"
"Mm-hmm," Ana told him. "You know, I gotta ask. What's it like in the suit?"
"Hot," Jax answered. Ana chuckled. Jax gave a serious answer but remained nonchalant. "You know, it's like nothing else in the world. Being able to fly and protect the ones that can't protect themselves... It's great. And to think... I can't believe that all that came from was a sketch that I used to draw in high school. And now it's real. It's like, 'Did I really do that?'"
"You're proud of who you've become?" Ana asked. "Not just some spoiled playboy that used to act out because his dad wasn't around?"
"Well, there's a lot more to that story that you don't about, but okay," Jax told her.
"There's a lot more to any story that no one knows about," Ana told him. "It's just about the right person making the right amount of effort to find out the details."
Jax raised his glass. "To the right person."
Ana raised her glass. "Right person."
They smiled, taking a drink.
Justin and Christine Everheart walked closer.
"Jackson?" Justin asked. "Is that you?"
Jax rolled his eyes, looking at Ana. "My least favorite person on Earth, Justin Hammer."
Ana smirked.
Justin patted Jax on the shoulder. "Hey, pal. How you doing? You're not the only rich guy here with a fancy car. You know Christine Everheart from Vanity Fair?"
Christine smiled. "Hi."
Jax sighed. "Oh, God."
"You guys know each other?" Justin asked.
"Yes," Christine answered.
"Yes, roughly," Jax answered.
"We do," Christine told them.
Justin looked at Ana. "And who might you be?"
"Ana Rushman," Ana told them.
"Her older sister's my dad's new assistant," Jax told them.
"Right, right, because Pepper Potts is the new CEO of Stark Industries," Christine told them. "My editor will kill me if I don't grab a quote for our Powerful Women issue."
Ana nodded. "Oh."
"I'm also writing a piece of Jax Stark," Christine told her.
"You're still writing that spread?" Justin asked. "I thought you were doing that big spread on me for Vanity Fair."
Ana looked at Jax. "She did a spread on you?"
"Last year," Jax answered. "And she wrote a story as well." Ana realized what he meant, raising her eyebrows slightly. "A story that takes eight months to write, apparently."
A photographer took Ana, Jax, Justine and Christine's picture.
Christine looked at Ana and Jax. "Can I ask you... is this the first time... seeing each other?"
"This is the first time we've met, yes," Ana answered.
Christine took a recorder out of her bag, holding it toward Ana. "Can you tell me, what's your first impression of Jax Stark?"
Ana chose her word carefully. "Overwhelming."
Christine looked from Jax to Justin. "And is this the first time you've seen each other since the Senate?"
"Since he got his contract revoked," Jax answered.
"Actually, it's on hold," Justin told them.
Jax started to back away, pointing at Justine. "When you were attempting to... that's not what I heard. What's the difference between 'hold' and 'cancelled'? The truth?"
Christine looked at Justin. "Yes, what is?"
Justin cleared his throat. "No, the truth is..." He swiped the recorder in Christine's hand. "Why don't we put that away? The truth is, I'm actually hoping to present something at your Expo."
"Well, if you invent something that works, I'll make sure I get you a slot," Jax told him. He looked at Ana. "You wanna get out of here? 'Cause I wanna get out of here."
"Yeah, I wanna get out of here," Ana answered.
"Great," Jax told her. "Let's get out of here."
Ana and Jax started to walk away.
Justin looked at Christine. "I actually have a slot this year. Yes, I do."
"Hammer needs a slot, Christine," Jax told her.
Ana and Jax walked away, leaving.
Justin looked at Christine. "We kid, yeah. We kid. We're kidders."
Ana and Jax kept walking.
"So, where are we going?" Ana asked.
Jax smirked. "Anywhere you want us to." Ana tilted her head. Jax got an idea. "You said that you were more playful and rebellious, yeah?"
"And adventurous," Ana answered. "Always like a little thrill in my life. Keeps life from being boring and empty."
Jax pointed at Ana. "You're talking my language. I think I got something for both of us to enjoy."
Ana tilted her head curiously, smiling slightly.
🚀
Racetrack
Jax walked onto a racetrack in a blue suit.
Ana watched from the crowd, smirking curiously.
Jax hopped over the white wall to get to his race car.
🚀
Restaurant
Justin and Christine were sitting at a table.
"Jax and I..." Justin trailed off. "Jax... I love Jax Stark. I love Tony Stark. They love me. We're not competitors. Them being out of the picture created tremendous opportunities for Hammer Industries, you know?" Christine watched the TV behind him. "Everything that we do is healthy... competition..."
Justin turned to see Jax on the TV, getting ready for the race.
Jax looked at the camera to look out to the TV audience. "Well, what's the use of having and owning a race car if you don't drive it?"
Natasha, Tatiana, Pepper and Tony were sitting at their table, watching the TV.
"Natalie?" Tony asked.
"Yes, Mr. Stark?" Natasha asked.
Tony pointed at the TV. "Did you know about this?"
"This is the first that I have known of it," Natasha answered.
"Is he driving?" Tatiana asked. The names of the racers appeared on the screen. Jax's name appeared in the list. "Well, there's my answer." Tatiana looked around. "Where's Ana?"
"Probably out there with my son," Tony answered. "He's got lots of tricks up his sleeves to impress some girl he likes."
Pepper shook her head. "This... this cannot happen."
"Absolutely, I understand," Natasha told them. "How can I help you?"
"Where's Happy?" Tony asked.
"He's waiting outside," Natasha answered.
"Okay, get him," Tony told her. "I need Happy."
"Right away, sir," Natasha told him, walking away, leaving.
At their table, Justin looked at Christine. "Tony, Jax and I... we're at... we're not competitive. You know what I mean?"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," Christine answered. "You know, can you excuse me just one second?"
"Just read me what you wrote," Justin told her.
"I will," Christine told him.
"Just read it back to me," Justin told her.
"I will, after," Christine told him. "But I have to make one quick phone call."
"Where are you going?" Justin asked.
Christine stood. "This is great."
"I've got some caviar coming," Justin told her.
Christine picked up her stuff. "This is great stuff. I'll be right back."
Christine walked away.
People were looking at the TV.
Jax was in his racing helmet, pointing at the screen.
Tatiana was watching, leaning forward against the table, her chin resting on her hand.
🚀
Racetrack
Jax got into his race car, giving a mechanic a thumbs up.
Ana was watching from the sidelines.
Jax smirked, revving the engine.
The green light came on.
All the racers took off driving.
Ivan Vanko was posing as one of the mechanics on the sidelines.
The cars continued to race.
🚀
Restaurant
Pepper, Tony and Tatiana sat at their table, watching the TV.
🚀
Racetrack
Ivan walked with the mechanics.
Jax raced through a tunnel with the other drivers.
Ivan walked out into the track, taking off his hat, raising people's suspicions and attentions.
🚀
Restaurant
Everyone was watching Ivan walk onto the racetrack, confused and suspicious.
🚀
Racetrack
Ivan walked along the track, unbothered by the passing cars, ripping open his jumpsuit, exposing a smaller, simpler version of the Iron Man and Gold Strike suits. He lowered cables into his hands, making them spark with electricity.
The rest of the jumpsuit was burned off by the suit.
A red race car tried to drive past.
Ivan whipped a cable into the front of the car, cutting the hood off of it, making it flip over the track.
🚀
Restaurant
Everyone was still watching.
Pepper was starting to panic.
Tony and Tatiana were surprised and taken aback.
Natasha walked in, leading Happy with her.
Happy showed them a gold suitcase.
Pepper, Tony and Tatiana stood, walking toward Natasha and Happy.
🚀
Outside
The group walked outside, getting into the car, driving away.
🚀
Racetrack
Happy busted through the gate into the track, driving the opposite way of the drivers.
People in the stands were starting to run past Ana, jostling her around.
The racers were still driving.
Jax was driving too fast toward Ivan to slow down.
Ivan whipped both the cables against the hood of his car, slashing it and the tires off, making him flip down the racetrack, landing upside down against a wall. We walked closer, whipping the cables.
Jax took off his helmet, looking back at Ivan.
The racers behind Ivan pulled to a screeching halt, some of them crashing into the others.
In the car, Tony looked at Happy. "Give me the case."
Happy handed the gold suitcase to Tony. "Here. Take it."
"Where's mine?" Tony asked.
"In the trunk," Happy answered.
"Where's the keys?" Tony asked.
"In my pocket," Happy answered.
"Car!" Tati told him.
Happy avoided hitting an oncoming racing car.
Out on the track, Ivan walked toward Jax's race car, whipping both his cables through it, tearing it apart, revealing that Jax was no longer in the car.
Ana walked closer to the gate, pushing through the running crowd.
Jax came up behind Ivan with a race car door, hitting him in the head with it, making him fall into the car. Ivan turned to whip the cable at him, making him drop the small, light car door and fall to the ground. He tried to hit Jax with the whips. Jax rolled out of the way, making the cables hit the ground and throw up sparks. Ivan tried to hit him with the whips. Jax rolled his legs out of the way, hitting a car behind him. Ivan tried to hit him. Jax spread his legs to make him hit the ground between them to make him miss, standing, running a short distance away. Ivan used the whips to hit the back of Jax's legs, making him fall into another crashed car, and then fall to the ground.
Jax opened his eyes. He was bleeding underneath one of them. He stayed where he was on the ground, looking into the rear-view mirror to see Ivan stalking closer from behind him.
Ivan walked closer, twirling the whips in his hands, crossing them and flipping them like a jump rope.
Jax waited until Ivan was close enough to him. Ivan raised the whip to hit Jax. Jax jumped up, flipping over the car in front of him, rolling around to the other side, rolling away, making the whip hit the car and set off a small explosion.
Jax stood. His arm was on fire. He patted it down hurriedly to get it out.
Ivan walked closer, smiling.
Happy drove the car closer.
Jax ran out of the way, jumping up onto the fence above the car.
Happy drove into Ivan, pinning him against the fence underneath Jax.
Natasha, Tatiana and Tony got out of the car.
"Are you okay?" Tony asked.
"Yeah," Jax answered.
Natasha and Tatiana ran toward Ana, pulling her away from the fence.
Ana and Tatiana looked at Natasha, ready to react and fight on a moment's notice.
Natasha shook her head, knowing that it wasn't their mission to expose themselves this soon undercover.
Jax jumped off the fence, looking at Happy. "Were you heading for me or him?"
"I was trying to scare him," Happy answered.
"'Cause I can't tell," Jax told him.
Pepper looked at Jax incredulously. "Are you out of your mind?"
"Better security," Jax told them.
"Get in the car right now!" Pepper told them.
"I was attacked," Jax told them. "We need better security."
"Get in the car," Happy told them.
Jax looked at Pepper. "You're CEO. Better security measures. God, it's embarrassing."
Tony sighed. "First vacation in two years." He handed the gold suitcase to Jax. He opened the trunk. Ivan hit the hood of the car with the whips, breaking it. The car could barely pull away from Ivan. Tony took out the red and gold suitcase in the trunk, closing it, looking into the car to Pepper and Happy. "Get out of the car, go after Natalie, Ana and Tanya, get the hell out of here. Go! Now!"
Happy and Pepper got out of the car, running toward the exit.
Tony and Jax put the suitcases on the ground, stepping on them.
The suitcases started to take themselves apart, wrapping the pieces around them, forming into their own suits.
Tony held his hand toward Ivan. Ivan used his cable to hit Tony's hand, making him turn away.
Ivan tried to hit Jax in the helmeted head. Jax raised his shielded arm to protect himself, firing a light blast at Ivan. Ivan used the cables to swat the light blast away, trying to hit Jax. Jax caught the wire. It wrapped around his arm.
Ivan tried to hit Tony with the other wire. Tony caught it. It wrapped around his arm.
Tony and Jax together pulled the cables away from Ivan, tossing them down.
Tony punched Ivan in the face, flipping him to the ground, taking the arc reactor off the suit, making it useless.
What remained of the crowd started to cheer.
Agents from CRS walked closer to take Ivan away.
Natasha, Ana and Tatiana watched them critically.
Ivan spit blood toward Tony and Jax. "You... you lose." He started to laugh. "You lose. You lose."
The agents took Ivan away.
Tony looked at the arc reactor in his hand, crushing it, destroying it.
