Blow

Jax:

It was after the light ray explosion Tony, Jax and Rhodey had created in the woods to take out Ivan.

Tony, Jax and Rhodey stood, walking toward Ivan.

Ivan's helmet was off. He was on the ground, weak and dying. "You lose."

The drones were all beeping, flashing with red light.

Rhodey realized. "All these drones are rigged to blow. We gotta get out of here, guys."

"Pepper?" Tony asked.

They flew high into the sky.

Tony flew through the sky into the park.

Pepper was standing nearby a destroyed drone that was rigged to blow. She looked at it in confusion.

Tony flew toward Pepper, grabbing her, taking her away, flying high into the sky.

All of the destroyed drones everywhere exploded into flames.

Tony took Pepper to a high up building far away.

Pepper pushed him back angrily, overwhelmed.

Tony took off his mask.

Pepper put her hands to her head. "Oh, my God. I can't take this any more."

"You can't?" Tony repeated.

Pepper lowered her hands. "I can't take this."

"Look at me," Tony told her.

"My body, literally, cannot handle the stress," Pepper told him. "I never know if you or Jax or gonna kill yourselves or wreck the whole company."

"I think we did okay," Tony told her.

"I quit," Pepper told him. "I'm resigning. That's it."

"What did you just say?" Tony asked. "You're done?" He stepped closer. "That's surprising. No, it's not surprising. I get it. You don't have to make any excuses."

"I'm--I'm--I'm not making any excuses," Pepper told him.

"You actually were just making excuses," Tony told her. "But you don't have to."

"No, I wasn't making an excuse," Pepper told him. "I'm actually very justified."

"Listen," Tony told her. "Hey, hey. You deserve better."

"Well..." Pepper trailed off.

"You've been a really good friend for me," Tony told her. "You've taken such good care of Jax when I couldn't. I've been in a tough spot, but you got me through it, so... Right?"

"Thank you," Pepper told him.

"Yeah," Tony told her.

"Thank you for understanding," Pepper told him.

"Yeah, yeah," Tony told her. "Let's talk clean-up."

"I'll handle the transition," Pepper told him. "It'll be smooth."

"Okay," Tony told her. "What about the press? Because you only had the job for a week. That's gonna seem..."

"Well, with you, it's like dog years," Pepper told him.

"I know," Tony told her.

"I mean, it's like the Presidency," Pepper told him.

They finally kissed. They continued to kiss for a moment, pulling away.

"Weird," Tony told her.

Pepper shook her head. "No, it's not weird."

"It's okay, right?" Tony asked.

"Yeah," Pepper answered.

"Run that by me again," Tony told her.

They kissed.

They heard Jax's voice. "I think it was weird." They pulled away, looking toward where Jax didn't have his helmet on. "You guys look like two seals fighting over a grape."

"I had just quit, actually," Pepper told him.

"Yeah, so, we're not..." Tony trailed off.

"You don't have to do that," Jax told them. "I heard the whole thing."

"You should go," Tony told him.

"I was here first," Jax told them. "Get a roof."

"How many one-liners can a smartass son say in day?" Tony asked.

Jax smirked. "That's the last one. For the day. You kicked ass back there, by the way."

"Thanks," Tony told him. "You, too."

Jax smiled, standing. "Oh, and, Dad? It's been 20 years. It's okay."

Tony nodded, smiling a small smile in appreciation. "Thank you."

"So I guess I'll see you guys at home," Jax told them. "Deuces."

Jax put on his helmet, flying away.

Tony looked at Pepper. "Did he just say--"

"Yeah, he did," Pepper answered.

"He did, didn't he?" Tony asked.

"Yes, he did," Pepper answered.

"Oh, how are you gonna resign if I don't accept?" Tony asked.

Pepper laughed.

Jax:

Next Day

Morning - Office

Tony and Jax were sitting in an office, looking at two files that the covers read:

Avengers Initiative

Preliminary Report

Nick took a seat across from them at the table. "Tony, I don't think I want you looking at that. I'm not sure it pertains to you any more." He held up a file. "Now these, on the other hand, are the Romanoffs' assessment of you. Read them."

Tony opened the file. "'Personality overview. Tony Stark displays compulsive behavior.' In my own defense, that was last week. 'Prone to self-destructive tendencies'. I was dying. I mean, please. And aren't we all? 'Textbook narcissism'?"

"Agreed," Jax told them. He looked at his file. "Okay, here is it. 'Recruitment assessment for Avenger Initiative. Gold Strike/Jackson Stark? Yes.'"

Tony read his file. "My recruitment assessment? For Iron Man? Yes."

"I gotta think about it," Jax told them.

"Tony, read on," Nick told him.

Tony read on. "'Tony Stark not... Not recommended'?"

Jax looked at Nick. "That doesn't make any sense. How can you approve my dad but not approve my dad? He's got a new ticker. He's trying to do right by Pepper. He's in a stable-ish relationship."

Nick stood, walking closer. "Which leads us to believe at this juncture we'd only like to use you as a consultant."

"So, you want me to join your boy band, and you want my dad to be the manager?" Jax asked.

"So to speak," Nick answered.

Jax stood, shaking Nick's hand. "Cool."

Tony stood, shaking Nick's hand. "You can't afford me. Then again, I will waive my customary retainer in an exchange for a small favor.  Jax, Rhodey and I are being honored in Washington, and we need a presenter."

Nick nodded. "I'll see what I can do."

Jax smiled.

Ana:

Washington D.C.

Award Ceremony

Everyone was honoring Tony, Jax and Rhodey.

Senator Stern was representing them, obviously having been forced to by Nick. "It is my honor to be here today to present these distinguished awards to Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes, Mr. Tony Stark and Mr. Jax Stark, who are, of course, a national treasure." Tony and Jax smirked. Stern put a pin in Rhodey's jacket. "Thank you, Lieutenant Colonel, for such an exceptionally distinguished performance." He patted Rhodey on the shoulder. "You deserve this."

"Thank you, sir," Rhodey told him.

Stern picked up another pin, putting it in Tony's jacket, purposefully stabbing him in the chest, making him gasp in pain. "I'm sorry, Mr. Stark. Thank you for such an exceptionally distinguished performance. You deserve this."

"Right on," Tony told him.

Stern picked up another pin, stepping in front of Jax. "Jackson. Thank you for such an exceptionally distinguished performance. You deserve this."

Stern put the pin on Jax's jacket, purposefully stabbing him in the chest.

"Ow," Jax told him.

"Oh, sorry," Stern told him, clearly not sorry. "Funny how annoying two little pricks can be, isn't it? Let's get a photo."

Stern stood with Tony, Jax and Rhodey.

A photographer walked closer.

Ana was watching from the street behind the seats.

Jax saw her, raising a peace sign in the air.

They smiled.

The photo was taken.

Ana smirked, turning to leave.
