ONE: Geometry
The First Day of School
The first day of high school. Ninth grade year, yippee! Note the sarcasm. My first day was not looking too hot. Why? Well, I missed the bus (because our published stop wasn't actually a stop, how stupid), arrived late to Beginning Guitar (with my teacher as my band teacher, Brook for the next block), and I didn't know anyone. Anyone at all at this school. Okay, that was a lie. I knew quite a good handful of people from marching band, but other than that?
No one. Nadda. Zip. It's like that when you move to a different state with a completely different atmosphere from the one you're used to. I sat in silence while our teacher talked through the syllabus, assigned us our guitars for the semester, and went over the different parts of the guitar. Then, I stayed for my next block: Ninth Grade Band. Once more we went through the syllabus before the collective of about forty got band cubby, music books, and music folders assigned.
Then, we hopped in front of the tv and played Mario Kart for the remaining hour. I reigned supreme on Mario Kart with my go-to of Rosalina on one of her bikes (I forget the name of it). And before I knew it, it was time for me to go to Geometry. Yea! Math! My least favorite subject! But for some strange reason I was good at it. And science. But I liked English and History. Science (Honors Earth Science) and History (Honors World History 1) would be in the spring semester along with Band/PE and French II.
And unfortunately, math was on the other side of the building from the band room which meant I had one long trekk ahead of me and only five minutes to get there. And people... walk so slow! Why do people walk slow? Sure some go from the two hundred to three hundred hall or five hundred to the 90 (across the hall from them). But me... I have to walk so fast, but people are idiots. So, I'm gonna try to take a shortcut.
By crossing through the eighty hall and go all the way towards the 800 hundred hall and then walk down the eight hundred hall until I've reached the last classroom of that hall. And that is exactly what I did. But it didn't matter because there was a line going down the hall where the teacher stood in front of the door with a clipboard with a massive cart of both textbooks and a syllabus packet.
Oh what fun. When I got to the front, I got my a textbook and the packet and walked into the classroom. I was told to sit down at seat thirteen where a pile of the first unit notes would be along with the rest of the paperwork needed for this class. I sighed and sat down in number thirteen and just waited for clsss to start. We had done the exact same thing in my previous classes.
"Alright before we start, we're going to do an exercise. You will be paired up with someone of my choosing, ask the questions on the sheet, and then you and your partner will report four of your ten findings in front of the class. The pairs will be listed as your seat number." And he pulled up a list.
I scanned the list looking for seat number 13. And I found it with Seat Number 7. I scanned the desks surrounding me and it was the one in front of me. A boy with blonde hair wearing a sweater vest was in the seat. He turned around.
"Hey, we're partners, right? Seat Number Thirteen?" The boy asked. He had a burn scar over his left eye.
"Yeah. That's right. Haraharahara! I'm [Y/N] by the way." I held out my hand to him.
"Sabo." And he shook my hand.
