Chapter 61
Everything was white, very white.
It was also silent but calm. It was like an underwater peace, hugging the ears of anyone relaxed enough to witness this.
Suddenly, Vinny gasped a big intake of air and quickly sat up. He breathed heavy and desperately looked around but he couldn't see anything.
It was all white.
He instantly looked at his wrists but there wasn't a cut to be seen.
"What the hell?" He whispered and got to his feet. He frowned and looked around again but he still couldn't see anything. Where is he? "Hello?"
He called out but his voiced echoed with nothing in return.
The thing that was weird for Vinny was that he didn't feel any form of anger, mood swings or anything like his usual frame of mind.
He felt calm and at peace with himself.
But he didn't know why.
"Hello?" He called out again and turned around.
but there was somehow an old woman, now standing in front of him. She was dressed in a white knee-length dress with a white cardigan. Her grey hair was pulled up into a ponytail.
She was watching Vinny with an unusual expression. It was almost a look of concern.
"Vinny Vanderwood," She said like she was trying to confirm who it was. But she knew him.
"Where am I?" Vinny questioned and took a few steps closer. "Who are you?"
"My name is Angelette and I am an elder angel."
Vinny looked her up and down. He wasn't a fan of the elders, not when they sat back and watched him live in a cave for two whole years.
"Where are we?" He asked again.
She was still watching him with that look of concern.
"You're in heaven."

"He's not breathing," Panuleon said and laid Vinny on his back.
Corey pushed Oliver out of the way and tried dropping his tears onto the Vampire.
When Corey first met his angel, the demons killed his parent which obviously brought floods of tears to his eyes. But when he let the water splash off of their skin, the tears turned to gold and somehow brought his mum and dad back to life.
He was praying that it would work with Vinny too.
He pinched himself and created enough water in his eyes that would drop onto him. He and Panuleon watched intensely as the angel was resting his hands over his heart, trying so hard to create enough energy to jump start it again.
"Nothing's happening," Corey said. The tears needed to glow and react. "Why is nothing happening?"
"Wait," Rayvon said. Everyone was watching with wide and fearful eyes. This all happened too fast, Vinny deteriorated right in front of their eyes. "Is-Is he..."
He couldn't finish it, he didn't want to say that word.
"I can't do anything!" Panuleon said as the clear panic rose in his voice. "My powers are not working. Quick, someone please get a small tube from the first aid room!"
John got up and ran out of the room, ready to get anything that would help.
The angel then had no choice but to start CPR on him. He was technically dead but there was no way he was giving up hope.
"He's gone" Oliver whispered as Panuleon pressed on his chest.
Madison almost collapsed when the angel was trying to bring him back to life. She just thought he had fallen unconscious, she didn't know how close he was to death until it happened.
"Vinny?" She breathed as her hands began to tremble. Duke had to hold onto her but he was close to breaking down too.
"M-My- Vinny" Oliver whispered.
His eyes were refusing to blink. His husband, soulmate, and Vampire was lying in front of him but his soul was gone. There was nothing inside of him.
No memories, no emotions and no life.
Rayvon put a hand on his head and watched through watery eyes.
"Come on dad" He whispered. "Please, wake up."
"Oh god," Oliver said as the clear burst of sorrow exploded in his chest. The lump in his throat forced its way up and caused several warm tears to spill over his eyes and fall down his cheeks.
He leant forwards and clutched his lover's shoulders.
"Vinny please, open your eyes" He cried and shook them.
But nothing happened.
"No" He wailed emotionally. He could feel that his soulmate was gone and he was soon to die of a broken heart.
He buried his face into the side of his neck, praying for a pulse. He breathed his scent in deeply and let his tears caress his skin.
"Don't leave me Vinny. W-We need to grow old together" He sobbed.
His cries were so full of pain, it was hard for the angel to keep going without comforting him. But he needed to keep the faith.
He had to bring him back to life, he just had to.
John burst back in the room and ran over.
His heart crippled at that awful sound of his son crying his poor heart out.
"I've got it," He said but Panuleon told him to give it to Duke.
"Cut your wrist Duke but only enough for the tube to fit in."
He immediately did that as Corey who had followed John came back in with an empty plastic packet and a tiny little machine.
As he started to put everything together, Oliver clutched his own chest and continued to cry for his loved one.
"Wake up" He whispered. "Please!"
He was begging so hard.
Everything was now flashing through his mind.
He would never see those chocolate brown eyes. He would never hear that deep voice. He would never see his famous glare or hear his rare laugh ever again.
his heart felt like it was really breaking.
* * * * *
"Why am I in heaven?" Vinny asked with a thumping heart. He tried so hard to get here when he needed to, but they wouldn't let him in. So why now?
"Because you died."
The vampire could've sworn his heart actually stopped but in reality, it did. He felt like his ears had been blown up and all he could concentrate on was the ringing of silence.
"I'm dead?" He asked quietly.
"Yes," She said and watched the shock wash through his expression.
"But, I can't be dead. What about Oliver? Or my family? How-How long have I been gone for?" Everyone was flashing through his mind.
"Oliver will be here soon."
That stopped him in his memories. What did she just say?
He looked up to her perfect blue eyes and his glare returned to his face.
"Now you listen to me" His voice was low and made the angel suddenly really uncomfortable. "Just because I'm here doesn't mean you take his life away too. This was my stupid mistake, his life will not end because of me. If he enters heaven, I will kill you."
Now, the atmosphere was getting extremely tense.
"You've made a lot of foolish mistakes in your life Vinny Vanderwood. This was your biggest one."
They stared at one another as the situation for Vinny got incredibly real.
"You chose to risk your life, you shouldn't have been so selfish to risk your soulmates life too."
"I didn't think I would die."
"You're just a vampire, you're not invincible."
She then sighed. Having him in heaven was big news but this is the last place anyone would want him.
Suddenly, Vinny felt a blow to his chest and he dropped down on one knee. He clutched it and frowned with worry.
"They're trying to bring you back to life" She spoke with almost a boring tone but her face was still concerned. "Panuleon is a huge credit to your family. The number of times he has saved you is unthinkable. You shouldn't use him like that."
"We don't use him" Vinny breathed and slowly got back onto his feet. "He's my friend and he's very persistent when it comes to helping people."
"He does have a heart of gold, maybe even literally but Luka on the other hand, he's something special."
Vinny studied her face, the longer he was here, the more risk he had of seeing Oliver.
"Is there any way I can get home?"
"Let me take you on a walk down memory lane," She said while stepping closer. Vinny was irritated that she didn't answer his question as she reached up to his shoulder.
As soon as they connected, he was standing in his mansion.
He blinked at the instant change and looked around quickly.
He stopped when he saw himself in the mirror. He raised his eyebrows and slowly walked closer.
He looked eighteen again.
"That's because you are eighteen again," A voice in the back of his head said. Vinny recognised it as the elder Angel.
"Why?" He questioned.
"You need to see how important your soulmate is. This is the day it all began."
Vinny looked around, seeing the staff pass him by. They were avoiding his gaze but edging around him.
"Can they see me?" He asked out loud which got him funny looks.
"Yes. Don't give anything away, now go and find your soulmate and show me just how much he means to you."
Vinny then felt like this was a challenge. She must be making him do this for a reason. He didn't want to question her as he quickly started walking down the corridor.
He was aiming for the kitchen.
His home still looked exactly the same but he loved how it has never changed. He has experienced so many memories in this mansion.
Just as he turned the corner, he almost walked straight into his mum.
"Vinny, where have you been!?" She asked as she stopped talking to a maid and gave him a disapproving frown.
The vampire's eyes scanned over her, she looked so much younger. But so did he.
"Um, I just needed some air," He said but then his eyes caught sight of the most beautiful person in the entire world.
Oliver.
His attention was elsewhere as he quickly walked down the corridor. He was wearing his work clothes and looked eighteen again. He had his white shirt with the top button that always popped undone. He was carrying his notepad and pen, getting ready to start work again.
"Who are you looking at?" Madison asked, snapping him out of his daze.
In the past, he would've defended himself and pretended like he was looking at nobody but this was his future husband and the love of his life.
"Oliver" He called, making the worker stop with a frown.
He turned and looked to see that the Master was staring at him.
"Uh, me?" He asked and pointed at himself.
"Yes, come here."
Oliver quickly did as he asked and walked up to the powerful vampire. He was a little fearful of him, especially now that they've already met in the alleyway and he basically pushed him into the wall.
But he didn't know that the vampire knew his name.
Madison watched with a little frown. Her son never voluntarily talked to humans or well... anyone.
As soon as Oliver was close enough, Vinny reached out and gently took his arms. Those big green eyes that he fell in love with were staring at him with such confusion, it almost made him smile.
He pulled him close and wrapped his arms around his shoulders.
Before anyone had time to react, he leaned his head in and connected their lips.
Everyone around them stopped and gawked at the vampire. Madison's eyes almost popped out of her head as her jaw pretty much hit the floor.
Oliver's body was stiff as a brick but Vinny didn't care. He just wanted to kiss him.
They weren't connecting the bond all over again because this wasn't actually what happened. This was just a memory that Vinny was allowed to re-visit.
He pulled his head back with a smile.
Oliver looked so shocked. His arms were by his side but his chest was pressed up against Vinny Vanderwood, the master.
"You just kissed me" He whispered. His eyes were as big as ever.
"Yes I did," Vinny said and his face showed so much emotion, Madison almost found that more surprising than him kissing another boy.
"Y-You're gay?" She asked in surprise.
Vinny glanced at her with a twinkle in his eye.
"Extremely gay," He said and turned back to Oliver. He was trying not to freak out that Vinny Vanderwood still had his arms wrapped around his shoulders. "And I'm so in love with this boy right here."
Madison didn't expect any of this so she had no idea how to react to it.
"Oliver, you mean the world to me. You might not know this yet but we're going to live a long and happy life together because you deserve all the happiness in the world. We'll get married and have a wonderful kid. You're going to make me laugh more than what I ever thought was possible."
The poor boy had no idea what he was talking about and he couldn't do anything but listen.
"Recently, I've been so selfish. I've made careless mistakes that have ended up hurting you. I can't apologise enough and I should've thought about you first. You're mine and only mine."
Madison was now beyond confused but her son was caught up in the moment and she didn't know how to interrupt.
"So if that elder angel is listening, I love you more than the world itself. You've made me who I am today and I can't be more grateful to have you in my life."
He then brought his face in close so Oliver could feel his breath against his lips.
"Kiss me back, I need to know that you understand how much I love you."
He then pressed their faces together and kissed him once more.
This time, the confused Oliver melted into him. He had no idea what was going on but the master was kissing him and it would be rude not to kiss back.
So he did.
Time seemed to stop and this moment was living on. Oliver and Vinny were kissing on the day they met for the very first time.
SUDDENLY,
everything instantly vanished in front of the vampires eyes and with a click of a finger, he was back in heaven.
He looked around, missing the sight of his soulmate and missing the sight of his mansion. He knew if he now looked at himself in a mirror, he would be thirty-eight again.
The elder angel appeared in front of him once more.
"Well, that was heartwarming, to say the least," She sighed and Vinny didn't know if she was being sarcastic or not.
"Did I do it?" He asked. "Did I prove to you just how much he means to me?"
"The fact that you went straight in for a kiss shows that you missed him being close. It shows me that you crave his comforts and the way you look at him, I've never seen so much love in someone's eyes before."
She then looked like she was deciding something.
"But you died and that was your own careless mistake."
Vinny's heart dropped. He had to get back to Oliver.
"Please. You can understand my reasons, I had demon blood inside of me and I wasn't the person who made the decision to cut my wrists."
"But your mind was still conscious-"
"Please," He interrupted. "I promise I'll never do this to him again. I'll never risk my life without thinking about him first. He's my main priority and his life is more important than mine. And my son, he can't be left without any parents. I can't put him through that."
She could see the desperation within him and almost felt a little sorry for him.
"I know you've never broken a promise."
The elder angel was chewing the inside of her lip as she walked closer.
Vinny was realising just how much pain he was putting his family through because his life has ended. He was special to those people and he could see that now.
"And do you still think that we didn't help you when you were stuck in the other world? Who finds a kitten at the top of a mountain?" She asked while holding out her hands. "Tell Orin I said hello."
She then took his hands in hers and looked deep into his eyes.
As everyone else's lives were passing them by, Vinny was receiving the greatest miracle of all.
A second chance.
