Chapter 55

Oliver eventually made his way to the dining room.

He stared at the ground the whole way, just to avoid the Staffs gaze. They looked really sympathetic and he hated seeing people look at him like that.

Jed was standing outside the dining room and his heart dropped every time Oliver made an appearance. He looked so depressed and he hasn't seen him smile in two years.

"Good afternoon," Jed said, just trying to lighten his mood but he knew it was impossible.

Oliver glanced at him, giving the angel a proper look at his tired and depressed face.

He did look exhausted.

"Hi Jed" He mumbled before walking past and entering the dining room.

The angel sighed sadly. If only the elder angels weren't so selfish. He was so tempted to break into heaven and give them a piece of his mind but he wanted to keep his wings.

Everyone looked up when Oliver came in.

They instantly tried masking their sad emotions and gave him kind smiles but Oliver avoided their gaze and sat at the other end of the table.

He still had his hood up and rested his head down on his forearms. He wanted to be around his family but it was just so hard to keep back his emotions.

Rayvon watched his dad with dull eyes. He has really struggled through these two years. He missed having little fun chats with his parents and he missed their little family hugs.

He missed watching his dads be together and listening to their stupid conversations. He missed how Vinny would randomly push him off the couch or trip him up when he walked.

He just missed how Oliver used to be and couldn't wait until his dads were together again.

His family felt broken.

Rayvon poured some coffee and put random bits of food on a plate.

He took the cup and the food before walking down the big grand table and sat next to his dad at the other end.

Oliver lifted his head when he heard things being placed in front of him. He looked up to see his son with a comforting smile.

The fact that he looked so much like Vinny made his heart hurt ten times more. But he would never tell him that and instead, he shuffled closer and buried himself into his son.

"I'm so sorry Rayvon" He croaked. "I haven't been much of a dad to you lately."

Rayvon hugged him and rubbed his back.

"I wouldn't expect you to look after me when you feel like this. Don't apologize."

Oliver still felt really bad but he was physically incapable of looking after himself, let alone his son.

But John has been a great help and kept both Oliver and Rayvon company.

Luka was sad because Rayvon was sad. It's impossible for one of them to be happy when the other one is down.

And it didn't help that he still blames himself.

Duke and Madison were so concerned for the safety of their son.

Yes, he's clever, wise and mature but they haven't heard anything from him or about him for two whole years. That was a very log time for him to be quiet.

They had no idea what his living conditions were like. Was he getting enough food? Was he warm at night? Was he suffering as much as Oliver and was he alone?

All these questions would remain unanswered and it was killing them.

Over the two years, members of the family have come over and offered their support. They've tried talking to Oliver and tried so hard to tell him to keep his head up and stay positive but it was just too difficult for him.

They had no idea how he was feeling and they would never experience his pain and his suffering so it was hard to help him.

"Eat some food dad," Rayvon said and pulled the plate closer. "You didn't eat your breakfast."

Oliver rubbed his stinging eyes and looked at the food.

He was hungry but it was just so much effort to eat. But he had to. If he carried on like this, he would continue to lose weight and he would barely have any energy left.

"Okay," He said and squeezed his son's hand.

* * * * *

Vinny and the demon had walked further than a mile but after almost forty minute's of hiking through the snow, the woman stopped.

Vinny was out of breath and he struggled to keep going. He simply had no energy and was even slow at walking.

"We're here," She said and stayed still, trying not to alarm the vampire or his cat.

Vinny studied the air but he couldn't see anything. His heart skipped a beat, was this really a trap?

"Where is it?"

His voice was as blunt as ever but he wasn't prepared to be messed with.

"Just here," The demon said and pointed a little bit to his left.

Vinny narrowed his eyes so he could focus better and soon enough, he saw a slight change in the air.

It was about a meter long and he could see the clear difference in the way it looked. It was almost shimmering against the winter sun.

He glanced at the demon who was watching him. He was still really unsure about this.

Why was it so hard for him to believe that not all demons are bad? Maybe it's because he has never met a good demon or at least a nice one.

"Have you got the instrument to close the tear?" He asked.

The woman nodded and pulled it out of her shoulder bag that Vinny only just noticed she was carrying.

"Would you like to go through first?"

Vinny paused. He had no idea where this tear would lead him. Was she really telling the truth?

This seemed too good to be true.

"No, you go in front of me but I'll hold onto your shoulder. I want to keep you in my sight."

Orin had noticed the tear and was watching with a lot of interest.

"Okay," The demon said and gave him a little smile in which he most definitely did not return.

He couldn't smile, not when he was still this heartbroken.

She stood in front of the tear and waited patiently for Vinny who kissed the top of his cats head and stroked her for reassurance.

He then took a steady breath and a step forward.

He reached out and gripped the demons shoulder.

"Are you ready?" She asked.

Vinny's heart was thumping so hard. Was this it? Was he about to re-enter his world after so long?

Everything was still screaming at him to run but he couldn't, not now.

"I'm ready."

The women proceeded forwards as Vinny tightened his grip. He was so nervous but he wanted to get home more than anything in the world.

He watched as she took a step into the tear and continued through.

When his hand touched it, it felt warm and almost like he was about to go through jelly.

But that's just what it felt like the last time.

He almost took a breath before stepping into it and following the demon.

It only took about two more steps before he felt a clear change in the air and the cold harsh breeze of the mountains slapped his skin.

He looked around with desperation, instantly feeling a million times closer to his loved ones.

But it still wasn't over yet.

"How do I know that this is my world?" The vampire asked.

The woman didn't know how to answer him as she immediately started to close the tear.

"Wait, answer me" Vinny demanded.

"There are only two worlds Vinny and this is yours."

But suddenly, the woman was pushed back as someone else quickly climbed through the tear.

Orin who was clinging tightly onto Vinny hissed, recognising the face.

It was the demon leader.

"Well, well, well. Haven't you been a naughty girl" He teased before shaking his head. "Making new tears behind our backs?"

Vinny stepped forwards, he was about to punch him in the jaw but the demon saw it coming and hit him instead.

He let Orin go who fell from his grip before the demon hit him again, letting him fall to the ground.

Orin immediately took a chunk out of the demon leaders ankle, making him yelp and kick her off.

The female demon pushed him away and stood in front of Vinny who's head was now hurting.

"Get back through that tear or I'll kill you" She muttered.

"Hmm, how about no" He smirked. "Because I do believe I have a family to harass."

Vinny looked up, knowing it would be his family who he was going to hurt.

"Don't you-"

But the demon leader didn't stay to listen and plummeted into the skies.

"Close the tear, do it now!" Vinny shouted as his cat jumped back into his arms and licked his now bruised cheek. "Not now Orin."

The cat knew he was stressed while the female demon quickly fumbled around, trying to close the tear before any more demons came through.

It took her almost a minute but she was successful.

"I've done it. Shall we quickly close the other one or shall I take you to your family first?"

Vinny knew that in order to get to his family, he had to put a tiny bit of trust into this woman.

"Wait, but there are angels at my home and they'll kill you if you-"

"I'll drop you outside and give you the instrument. A promise is a promise. I can't just leave you here, not when that lunatic is after your family."

Vinny then saw the true shimmer of kindness in her eyes and it was so strange to see that within a demon.

"Thank you" He mumbled before stepping forwards and wedging his cat in between him and her before putting his arms around her shoulders.

She held onto him equally as tight before taking a breath and hurtling into the skies.

* * * * *

Oliver had managed to eat half of a sandwich until he was forced to stop by a loud thud behind him.

Everyone took their gaze from him to see their worst nightmare, a demon.

His eyes flashed black as Rayvon instantly pulled Luka into him.

Jed opened the door and ran in. This demon wasn't wearing one of those gold bands so he could sense him.

"How did you get into this world?" Jed asked as he watched him with steady eyes.

Panuleon was extremely tense. He and Corey were ready to attack if he got anywhere near the kids or Oliver.

"I've been here this whole time" He smirked, not wanting to give anything away.

"Liar," Jed said and glanced at John. They gave one another a look that helped to settle their thoughts.

"Oh, you're good" The demon mocked before casually glancing around. "Has it been two years already? Two years since I took your husband?"

His eyes fell on Oliver. He immediately noticed the amount of pain he has clearly gone through. His weight loss, his exhausted eyes, his unshaven face and his expression full of sorrow.

This human looked utterly sick of life.

Oliver watched him, instantly feeling so much anger but he was too weak to do anything about it. He wanted to hurt this demon and he wanted to make him suffer.

"How did you get into this world?" Jed repeated. He saw Vinny push him and himself through the tear so he hadn't been in this world all this time.

"I told you, I've been-"

"Stop lying to me" Jed growled, sending roars of thunder crackling through the sky.

The demon turned serious as his eyes remained black.

Poor Luka was really frightened of him.

"Is there another tear? Tell me the truth or I'll make you wish you did."

John secretly liked Jed's angry side. He was so powerful.

"Maybe," The demon said like he was playing an innocent game. He couldn't wait to hurt this family but he didn't know Vinny had just been dropped off outside the mansion.

There was a huge crowd of people outside, constantly waiting for any news but as soon as the vampire landed by the door, they went silent with shock.

He didn't even have time to register how important his return was before he took the instrument and his cat and ran up the steps.

He banged hard on the front door.

It opened slowly but Vinny pushed it with a lot of force, knocking the doorman over as he desperately jumped inside.

The staff was alarmed, thinking it was more paparazzi but when they recognised it as the master, their eyes went wide and filled with hope.

Vinny was hit with the familiar smell of home as his eyes were experiencing pure pleasure from seeing these familiar hallways.

But he had no time to take it all in as he started running for the dining room.

Everyone had to be in there.

"I have to say, Oliver, your husband wasn't doing too well the last time I checked on him. He didn't even have a place to call home."

Madison felt her eyes get warm and the lump in her throat very nearly caused more tears.

Duke was squeezing her hand but he was exceptionally worried about him now.

Vinny was still running down the hallway and very nearly forgot how to get to the dining room.

The staff watched, feeling so shocked to see him because the public had been informed that he would be gone for around four years. They didn't even see his cat because they were so surprised to see him.

But they felt relieved for Oliver.

He didn't care that they were all gawking at him, he needed to protect his family and he needed to be reunited with his soulmate.

Oliver glanced at the door. He felt different, almost like he could sense something. But he took his gaze back to the demon who was going to do everything he could to make sure he depressed Oliver even more.

"Do you know where your husband slept for two whole years?" He questioned with a dirty smirk that was angering Jed more and more. "In a-"

Suddenly, the door to the dining room burst open.

Everyone jumped and glanced in that direction but the familiar face sent them into a surprised stare. It took them a second to register who they were looking at.

As Oliver turned his head, he almost fainted.

Stood, with that famous glare and that powerful and wise aura was his soulmate.

His Vampire.

His Vinny.
