Chapter 53

Oliver laid in bed.

It was half six in the morning and he woke up alone. The room was dark but the morning sun was rising and shining through the closed curtains.

It was strange that he wasn't in too much pain from missing his soulmate but he felt so miserable.

He was alone.

He, was, alone.

That was the worst thing in the world. For eighteen thousand years he has never woken up without Vinny close by.

But now he would continue to feel alone for so long, he didn't want to think about the word years.

He could feel Vinny's emotions but he could tell that he was still sleeping.

Slowly, Oliver rolled onto his back and stared at the dark wood of his poster bed.

He let out a shaky breath and rubbed his tired eyes. He didn't sleep very well and only had around four hours. He kept waking up and it would take him ages to drift back off.

Just then, there were three gentle knocks on his bedroom door before it opened.

Without moving, Oliver watched a big and tall person duck under the door. He knew it was Rayvon as he slowly shut it behind him.

He watched his son walk over and climb onto the bed. He got under the covers and put his arms around his dad.

Oliver cherished his warmth and his comfort as he wrapped his arms around him too.

"How're you doing son?" He asked.

Rayvon buried his head into his dad's shoulder and took in his comforts as well.

"I'm okay I guess" He muffled. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm good," Oliver said and rubbed his back. He wanted to keep Rayvon away from as much sadness as he could. "I can still feel your dad and he's doing okay too."

Rayvon knew he was just trying to be happy for him but he was glad, he hated it when his dad was upset. It felt like the whole world had collapsed if Oliver didn't have a smile on his face.

He hugged a little tighter but didn't say anything, he just wanted to be with him.

"How did you get so big Rayvon?" Oliver asked. "I remember when you and Luka were once the same height."

Rayvon chuckled softly.

"That must have been ages ago."

"You were probably about two years old before you were growing faster than him. Aliyah did say you were a big baby" Oliver said and very nearly smiled at the memory of being pregnant.

"Well, you should've seen it coming then" Rayvon smiled and rolled over so he was lying on top of him.

"You surprised everyone by getting this big, though" Oliver said and let a tiny smile appear.

Rayvon loved it when his dad talked about memories they shared when they were little. It felt like it was so long ago.

Just then, the door opened.

They both looked to see John. He smiled at his son and his grandson, keeping each other company.

"Morning boys," He said and walked over. He climbed on the bed and under the covers too as Rayvon rolled off of Oliver and hugged his grandad.

He was a very affectionate person and got that from both of his parents. Although, when he's angry he most definitely takes after Vinny.

John smiled and hugged him back.

"How're you both doing?" He asked and glanced at Oliver who looked very tired.

"We're okay," Oliver said before rubbing his eyes.

John knew he was far from being okay but he was glad that he was trying.

* * * * *

Vinny woke up on the freezing cold floor.

He had no idea where he was and didn't remember what happened after he told the demon leader to start opening the tear.

He opened his eyes and moved very slow. He was stiff and maybe even a little cold.

He lifted his head and peered in front of him. The vampire widened his eyes when he was looking at really thick snow and more mountains.

He sighed and sat up before looking around.

He was in a cave but it wasn't that big because he could see the end of it. He was glad that he managed to find some sort of shelter.

While he stumbled to his feet, he rubbed his chest as Oliver invaded his thoughts.

He took a more detailed glance around. The snow hadn't made it into the cave and the stone walls were gray and quite clean. It was very clear that humans didn't come here.

The morning sun was shining in his face and he knew that would warm up throughout the day.

He turned and looked out to the horizon again but he somewhat recognized his surroundings.

The mountain opposite him was the one where the demons abandoned him. But from this angle, he could see a tiny little village to his left. It was planted right at the bottom of the mountain he was on.

He then knew that this cave would be his home.

The vampire could dominate that little Village and get everything he needed to survive.

His chest then felt heavy as he sat down on a nearby rock.

He was alone.

He was going to live in a cave for years. That feels like the lowest form of living because he had nobody.

Not one single person to keep him company.

Suddenly, he heard a really faint noise.

Vinny frowned and slyly glanced around, not wanting to draw attention to himself.

There was clearly nobody in sight but he heard that noise again.

It was really high pitched and sounded close.

Vinny concentrated on all the sounds he could hear around him.

What was that noise?

Just then, something pounced at his feet.

Vinny jumped about a foot in the air and scurried back with a fright.

But he almost double took when he realized what had attacked his shoe.

Sitting there with huge green eyes and a playful swishing tail, was a little black kitten.

Vinny could've laughed at himself for jumping at such a small thing but it really did scare him.

He then frowned, how did such a small animal get all the way up here? How has it survived in these freezing temperatures?

It gave a cute little meow, making him realize that it was the kitten he could hear.

He wasn't quite sure what to do. it was staring at him with curiosity.

Vinny then stood up. This little kitten must have wandered off from its mother who should be nearby.

He started walking out of the cave but the small black animal followed him.

Vinny eyed it with annoyance. He wanted it to stay in the sheltered bit but the kitten seemed fascinated by the snow and kept catching it with its paws.

The vampire sighed and stopped to have a look around.

He couldn't see any other form of life.

"Where's your family?" He asked, knowing it couldn't reply.

The kitten simply meowed and started pouncing at Vinny's feet again.

He crossed his arms and watched it for a moment.

"Are you far from home like me?"

The kitten stopped and rubbed its head against his trouser leg.

Vinny didn't know why but he felt quite glad to have found something like this. He has always secretly wanted a pet but never asked his parents because he knew they'd say no.

But he always wanted something like a big dog, not a cat.

As he watched it chew on his laces, he crouched.

The kitten jumped back and stared at him with its big green eyes.

Vinny stretched his hand out and let it sniff his scent but almost immediately, the kitten brushed its face against his fingers before batting them with its paw.

Vinny pulled his hand back with a funny smile. It was very playful and maybe a little cheeky.

He sat on his knees and watched it try to capture its own tail but then topple over.

He wondered if he was allowed to keep something like this. It didn't have a collar and it was in a place where nobody would take a kitten.

It seemed lost and Vinny felt like he had too many things in common with it.

He couldn't just leave it. Maybe it would do him good to have something to look after, maybe this kitten can keep him company.

He sighed before reaching out to pick it up.

The kitten grabbed his fingers and tried chewing on him as he turned it around to see what gender it was.

"Female," He said before putting her down again.

The kitten meowed and sat by his knees. She licked her little paw, not phased by him at all.

"Do you already have a name?"

He knew this kitten had no idea what he was saying but talking out loud made him feel less lonely.

He was seriously debating whether to keep her or not.

The Pro's to keeping her would be the company and something to distract him from being so far away from home.

The Con's would be that he didn't have any money to get cat food or anything to keep her warm.

"Screw it, I'll keep you," He said. He liked the pro better in this situation. He could steal things and maybe show that little village that he was a vampire and threaten them if they didn't give him what he needed.

He didn't have any other plan and that seemed like a good one.

He then grabbed the kitten and stood up.

She chewed on his fingers as he laid her in his arms.

"Oliver's going to love you," He said but saying his name really hurt his heart.

The kitten stopped and started licking his fingers, almost like she understood that he was hurting.

His soulmate filled his mind while he started heading in the direction of the little village.

He was going to show who's boss and if he was going to live in a cave for a few years, he was at least going to do it in style.
