Chapter 49

Vinny looked at his watch and realised he had just over an hour before their limit was up.

He needed to get off this mountain.

He walked over to the edge and looked down. surprisingly, he wasn't as high as what he thought.

There was also a few ledges that he could jump too. They'd be risky and slippy but he might survive the fall if he accidentally fell off the edge.

But what other option did he have?

Without wanting to waste any more time, he took a few steps back and inhaled a deep breath.

He gave himself a moment of composure before leaping forwards and jumping off the side.

He flew through the air but kept eye contact with the ledge.

It only took a few seconds but he landed on it and fell into the cliff face.

He gripped it while his heart was racing.

He closed his eyes, breathed slowly and calmed his mind right down before doing the same again.

This ledge was a little further down so his landing had to be perfect if he wanted to do it somewhat safely.

He positioned his feet and without thinking about it, he jumped.

He flew through the air once more and it only took a few seconds to collide with it, but he had made a mistake.

This ledge wasn't a ledge.

It was a big block of ice that gave way to his weight.

It instantly collapsed under his feet and sent him falling down the steep cliff face.

He covered his head and accepted the fall while bashing off of every rock.

It didn't take too long for him to roll onto the snow covered floor as the mountain levelled out, but he had definitely broken something.

He brought his arms down and was struck with a horrendous pain in his wrist and by the way it looked, it was broken.

There was no bone sticking out or anything too extreme, but it hurt a lot.

Vinny sat up in the snow and rubbed his eyes with his good hand.

He couldn't believe what he was doing. This all felt like a crazy dream, but it wasn't.

He was stuck in another world with a very little chance of returning home.

But he made a promise to Oliver and the vampire has never broken a promise.

* * * * *

Half an hour later.

The angels had gone back to the ledge to wait and see if Vinny was successful.

They were unaware that he had no way of getting back anytime soon and had started a quest to somehow get into heaven.

Oliver was staring into space. He could feel Vinny's emotions and he somehow knew that he was injured but he didn't know where or if it was serious.

Rayvon was sitting next to him and holding his hand.

They were both filled with anticipation and worry.

They were trying not to let the negative thoughts in but he had been gone for a while now and they only had half an hour left of their time limit.

Duke and Madison were sitting on the opposite couch and trying to think positive too. But it was hard, their son is in serious danger and they couldn't do a single thing about it.

The security had captured fifteen more demons and they were all questioned but none of them were revealing anything, so they were killed.

The mansion is surrounded by the secret service and any vampires who wanted to help.

Duke told the vampires about five hundred years ago that this was going to happen again and they were ready for it this time.

"I can't cope with this," Oliver said and rubbed his eyes. "I need to know if he's okay."

Rayvon squeezed his hand but there was nothing anyone could do.

Luka felt bad.

This was his fault that Vinny was trapped in the other world. The vampire felt like he needed to sacrifice himself just so he could get back to Rayvon.

But if he was braver and stopped being so pathetic, Vinny might still be here.

"Stop it," Rayvon thought. "It's not your fault, don't blame yourself."

Luka chewed the inside of his lip and stared at his lap.

"I should've been brave."

Rayvon's heart felt like it was splitting.

He put an arm around his shoulders and pulled him closer.

"You don't need to be the hero. Anyone would feel scared and helpless in that situation. it was dads choice to make the sacrifice, please don't blame yourself."

Luka looked up and into his beautiful big green eyes. He couldn't bring himself to smile so he just buried himself further into his soulmate.

Oliver looked around to see everyone with their loved ones and he was beginning to feel alone. He could feel Vinny's determination, stress, heartbreak and everything in between.

Soon, they won't be able to feel each other because of the pain from being apart.

* * * * *

Vinny had made it to a snow covered road that was winding through the mountains.

He didn't know where it was going but he knew he had a better chance at finding civilisation if he followed it.

He was starting to panic a little bit. How on earth is he supposed to get into heaven? Should he pray?

But he was starting to prepare himself for the pain that's going to come.

He has accepted that there's simply no chance of him getting back to Oliver before their limit is up.

But he was determined to get back soon.

He was feeling very lonely.

He was in a world where Vampires don't exist so nobody would recognise him and help him out. He was in a world without his family, his parents, his son and Oliver.

They were so far away.

"What the hell?"

Vinny spun on his heels when he heard a woman's voice.

He turned to see a lady walking up behind him. She was dressed in extreme winter gear and had walking poles in her hand, showing she had gone for a hike.

Vinny watched with caution as she approached him.

"Why are you not freezing to death?"

Her eyes scanned his dapper clothing.

His smart jeans with a fitted shirt and velvet waistcoat looked very out of place in the middle of snow infested mountains.

Vinny remembered that in this world, everyone was human so he needed to act like a human.

"It is quite cold," He said bluntly.

"What the hell are you doing wondering out here without the proper equipment?"

Vinny had to play it cool.

"I'm lost and I've been walking for a while."

She looked him up and down.

This very handsome man was wondering around and she happened to fall right into his arm. But he needed her help and she would gladly give it to him.

"What's your name?"

"Vinny."

"I'm Caroline. Come on, there's a mountain rescue base just down the road. They have a warm cafe and they'll help to get you home."

That pierced Vinny's heart. She didn't know what he was going through and returning home wasn't even an option at the moment.

But he nodded and followed her.

She was slyly checking him out but in the process, she noticed his wedding ring.

Of course, it was too good to be true she thought to herself.

"What's her name?" She asked.

Vinny glanced at her, he didn't want a conversation but she was helping him out.

"What do you mean?"

His voice was blunt and she could already feel that he was a powerful person. Maybe he had a really important job or something.

"Your wife, what's her name?"

"Oh," Vinny said, understanding what she meant as he looked down to his wedding ring. "I have a husband actually."

Her jaw literally hung open as she looked this man up and down once more. She then realised what she was doing and quickly cleared her throat.

"Excuse me for stereotyping you," She said, seeing his blank expression not alter in the slightest. "So, what's your husband's name?"

"Oliver," Vinny said. He was beginning to feel the tight pulling sensation on his chest and looked at his watch.

Twenty minutes to go.

"How long have you been married?"

"Eighteen years."

Her eyebrows raised.

"How old are you?"

"Thirty-eight."

Her jaw then hung open once more as Vinny brushed it off. Humans are strange.

"You've aged well" She chuckled. "Do you have any kids?"

"A son," Vinny said and he was beginning to feel sad. He missed him already and really hoped that Luka got back to him.

"What's his name?"

Vinny could tell that this woman was really trying to make a conversation.

"Rayvon."

"How old is he?"

"Eighteen."

She reminded him of Oliver because she asked a lot of questions.

"I like the name Rayvon" She smiled but was quickly distracted when the mountain rescue base came into view. "Well, this is it."

Vinny's eyes scanned over the building. There was a helicopter next to it and a few land-rovers parked outside.

"Come on, I'll get you something warm to drink," She said and lead the way.

Vinny followed, getting a little tense.

He was an alien in this world, an outsider. he couldn't blow his cover.

When they were inside, he felt the warmth which means it must have been below freezing for him to notice the change in temperature.

"Hey, Caroline," The guy behind the counter said with a smile. His eyes then fell on Vinny who looked incredibly out of place. "Who's your friend?"

He was cheerful and happy but it was just another thing to remind him of Oliver.

"This is Vinny, I found him wandering around outside, he's lost."

The guy studied Vinny for a moment, to be wandering in these conditions without warm clothing is more than dangerous.

Caroline knew to get him a warm drink immediately, so off she went.

"Hi, I'm Matt," The guy behind the counter said and held his hand out for Vinny to shake.

When the Vampire moved his hand, it throbbing with pain.

"Oh, I think I've broken my wrist."

He held his arm up to expose a very badly bruised wrist that was bent at a funny angle.

"Oh Jesus," Matt said and he knew they now needed to get him to a hospital.

He pulled the first-aid kit out and hopped over the counter.

"How on earth did you do that?"

Vinny couldn't tell him that he fell off the mountain because he'd ask why he was on the mountain dressed like this.

"I tripped on the icy road."

Matt nodded, coming to the conclusion that he wasn't telling them the truth. He did look very important and probably got into trouble with the wrong people.

"Where are you from Vinny?" He asked as he began wrapping a bandage around his wrist to give it support before they go to the hospital.

Vinny had to think fast. He remembered when Corey and Panuleon came to their world for the first time and Oliver interrogated them. But where did Corey say he lived? What was the city called?

"London."

"Did you come to Scotland for a holiday or a business trip?" Matt asked. He wanted to find out more. Maybe Vinny worked for very important people or he could've just simply hit his head and is just confused.

But in reality, Vinny was a vampire from another world who had been left by demons to get himself home.

Obviously, he couldn't tell him that.
